NASCAR Odds: AMP Energy 500
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series hits one of its fastest tracks this week when Talladega Superspeedway hosts the 2009 AMP Energy 500 on Sunday.
The defending race champion, Kyle Busch, has emerged as the pre-race favorite to win this event.
Busch is a 7/1 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Other short odds to win are Tony Stewart (9/1), Jeff Gordon (9/1), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (10/1), Jimmie Johnson (10/1), and Denny Hamlin (10/1).
Busch won the 2008 event for his first ever win and top 10 finish at Talladega. Busch has nine races at this track, but has finished outside the top 20 in six of those races, including a 25th place finish earlier this year. Despite missing the Chase for the Championship, Busch has finished in the top 10 in his last two Sprint Cup races.
Stewart has one career win at Talladega with 12 top-10 finishes in 21 career races at the track. Stewart currently sits fourth in the point standings, 192 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson, and has finished in the top 10 in four of his last five races.
Gordon sits third in the current standings, 150 points behind Johnson, and has six career wins at Talladega. In 33 races at this track, Gordon has finished in the top 10 on 16 occasions. Gordon has finished in the top six in his last five Sprint Cup events.
Earnhardt Jr. has won five times on this track in his career, while Johnson has one victory at Talladega, and Hamlin has never finished better than third on this track.
