The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series begins its Chase for the Nextel Cup Championship on Sunday, when the drivers take part in the Sylvania 300.

A trio of drivers lead the pack entering the race as Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, and Jimmie Johnson are all favored to win.

Each of the three is a 6/1 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SBGGLOBAL. Other short odds to win are Tony Stewart (7/1), Kyle Busch (8/1), and Mark Martin (8/1).

Gordon won this event in 1998 and 1997 and is sitting tied for sixth in the points standings entering the chase. Gordon has finished in the top 10 in his last two races and has one win in the 2009 season.

Hamlin is coming off a win last week in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. Hamlin sits tied for fourth in the standings and has two wins on the year. Hamlin has finished in the top 10 in eight of his last nine races.

Johnson is the three-time defending Sprint Cup champion and is tied for second in the current standings. Johnson won this event in 2003, but has finished outside the top 10 in five of his last six events.

Stewart is tied with Johnson for second in the standings and has three wins on the year. Stewart has finished outside the top 10 in his last four races before having a streak where he finished inside the top 10 in 10-straight races.

Kyle Busch is not in the chase and has four wins on the year. Busch has finished in the top five in three of his last five races.

Martin has won four events this year and leads the standings by 10 points. Martin has finished in the top five in his last three races.
