New England 300 Preview
By Micah Roberts
VegasInsider.com

Okay NASCAR fans, we're off and running with the Chase underway and nine more to race go until a champion is crowned.

Martin Truex Jr. got it all started with thrilling win Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway that gives him an automatic entry into the next round, and he might be someone to a a look at this week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

It was Truex's third win of the season and second in the past three races. He's got the momentum going for him and he also gets equipment from Joe Gibbs Racing which has been stellar on these type of tracks this season. He's now 6/1 at the Westgate Las Vegas Super Book to win the Sprint Cup title with Kevin Harvick still the 5/1 favorite.

New Hampshire is a flat one-mile layout and the set-up requirements make it similar to Phoenix and Richmond. Between the three tracks we have four races of data to review and a Gibbs driver has won the last three, including two weeks ago at Richmond when Denny Hamlin won and Truex finished third while leading a race-high 193 laps. Let's face it, Gibbs is good everywhere winning 14 of the 27 races this season, but these type of tracks might be their best.

The Gibbs gang also won the first New Hampshire race this season in July with Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch led the most laps with 133. In April, Carl Edwards led a race-high 151 laps in a win at Richmond with Busch finishing second and leading 78 laps. That's pure dominance and you can pick almost any one of them to win and feel good about it because they're all somewhat equal.

The only race on these types they didn't win at was Phoenix just because Harvick always wins there, but the margin of victory was the closest of the season over runner-up Edwards. Hamlin was third, Busch was fourth and Kenseth seventh. You kind of get the idea. They're going to be the cars to beat and it's been that way for some time at New Hampshire as they've won the last three races there and five of the last eight.

Chevrolet had been on a six race win streak at New Hampshire beginning in the fall of 2009, but they're winless there in the last eight. The best hope they have this week is with Harvick who last won there in 2006, a season when won four times between the six races on these type of tracks.

Jimmie Johnson hasn't won a race anywhere since March at Fontana, but he's got three wins with a 10.5 average finish in 29 NHMS starts. Tony Stewart is a three-time winner and finished second there in July. Kurt Busch has three wins there over his career, the last coming in 2008. Maybe you can make a case for Kyle Larson or Chase Elliott to win, but that's it for the top Chevy contenders to win.

Team Penske swept the 2014 season for Ford with Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. For Logano it was his second win on the track, the first coming in 2009 which was his first career Cup win. Logano was third at NHMS in July.

There's no reason to look anywhere else but Joe Gibbs racing, so pick a driver, any driver from that stable and you should fare well at the bet window.

Top-5 Finish Prediction:

1) #20 Matt Kenseth (8/1)
2) #11 Denny Hamlin (8/1)
3) #18 Kyle Busch (6/1)
4) #19 Carl Edwards (8/1)
5) #78 Martin Truex Jr. (7/1)

Driver Notes - Ordered by Average Finish in the Last Five Races at New Hampshire

Matt Kenseth is coming off his second consecutive win and third overall at New Hampshire in seven track starts with Joe Gibbs Racing.

Brad Keselowski won the 2014 July race and leads all drivers with a 6.5 average finish in the last 10 races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He also ranks second in laps led (322) in the last five races.

Ryan Newman has posted a 10.2 average finish in five starts at New Hampshire with Richard Childress Racing. Newman finished seventh in July for his second consecutive, and third overall, top 10 with RCR at NHMS. This weekend, Newman will debut chassis No. 479 in the Bad Boy Off Road 300.

Joey Logano has finished in the top five in his last four starts at New Hampshire, including a win in the 2014 fall race. He's finished third in the last two races, but has yet to lead a lap.

Kyle Busch is coming off his 12th top 10 (eighth) in 23 starts at New Hampshire after leading 133 laps in July. Busch won for the second time at NHMS in the 2015 July race. The win extended a streak of five consecutive finishes of eighth or better, including three runner-up performances and a 3.0 average finish in that span. That streak of finishes was snapped last year in this event when he finished 37th after he had a right-front tire go down in the middle of the corner.

Martin Truex Jr. led 123 laps at New Hampshire in July, but finished 16th due to a broken shifter. Last year in this event, Truex scored his only top 10 (eighth) in five track starts with Furniture Row Racing.

Kevin Harvick leads all drivers with 379 laps led in the last four races at New Hampshire. He finished in the top five in three of those races, including a fourth-place run in July. Last year in this event, Harvick led 216 laps finished 21st last fall after running out of gas at the end of the race.

Carl Edwards won the pole for both races last season and finished seventh and fifth, respectively, in his first track starts with Joe Gibbs Racing. Edwards started 13th and finished 20th in July.

Jamie McMurray has finished in the top six in three of the last six races at New Hampshire, including a sixth-place run in July. The other two top 10s in that span came in this event in 2013 and 2014.

Greg Biffle is coming off his second consecutive top five at New Hampshire, and third in the last six races. He won the fall race in 2008.

Austin Dillon has posted a 13.6 average finish in five starts at New Hampshire. He finished 13th in July for his fourth top-15 finish at the track. This weekend, Dillon will pilot chassis No. 485, a car that has previously been utilized by his teammate Paul Menard.

Denny Hamlin has finished in the top 10 in his last two starts at New Hampshire, including a runner-up finish in this event last year. Hamlin's last of two wins came in this event in 2012.

Tony Stewart is coming off his 15th top five in 34 starts at New Hampshire, which includes three wins. His last victory came in this event in 2011. This weekend, Stewart will return in the same car (chassis No. 825) that he finished second with at NHMS in July.

Kyle Larson posted at 2.5 average finish at New Hampshire during his rookie season in 2014. He's finished 17th in the last two races. In the last four races of the season, Larson ranks third in average finish (6.0).

Ryan Blaney is coming off his best finish in two starts at New Hampshire, in 11th. This will be his first start in the fall race at the track.

Jimmie Johnson won the pole and finished 12th at New Hampshire in July. Johnson has finished sixth or better in the last four fall races at NHMS and is a three-time winner - last coming in the 2010 June race.

Kasey Kahne finished ninth last year in this event for his ninth top 10 in 25 New Hampshire starts. Kahne won the 2012 July race in his first track start with Hendrick Motorsports and has recorded a 15.7 average finish in nine overall track starts with HMS.

AJ Allmendinger has posted a 17.6 average finish in five starts with JTG Daugherty Racing at New Hampshire. His lone top 10 in 15 overall starts came in the 2010 June race with Richard Petty Motorsports.

Paul Menard has yet to post a top 10 in 19 starts at New Hampshire. His best finish in 11 track starts with Richard Childress Racing came in this event in 2012, 12th. This weekend, Menard will pilot the same car (chassis No. 547) that teammate Ryan Newman drove to a 10th-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Kurt Busch has posted a 20.8 average finish in five starts at New Hampshire with Stewart-Haas Racing. He finished 10th in his first track start with crew chief Tony Gibson in the 2015 July race for his 12th top 10 in 31 overall starts. Divers To Watch - New England 300
By Sportsbook.ag

New Hampshire Motor Speedway will be the host of Sunday’s Bad Boy Off Road 300. This is the second of three Round of 16 races for the Sprint Cup Series and Martin Truex Jr. is the guy that came away with the victory in the first, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400. Truex Jr. had an average speed of 145.161 MPH in that race and has now won two of the past three Sprint Cup events. A few guys worth mentioning when coming into this race are Ryan Newman and Matt Kenseth. They are the only two active drivers that have won this race twice in their careers and each of them will be hoping to win their third, as nobody has ever won three in this race. Both Hendrick Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing have had four winners in this event and Chevrolet has been the best manufacturer here, as 10 drivers have won driving in one of their cars. With that out of the way, let’s now take a look at some of the best plays coming into this one:

Divers To Watch

Martin Truex Jr. (6-to-1) - Martin Truex Jr. is not the favorite to win this race and that is truly puzzling. Truex Jr. is as hot as could be coming into this one, as he has now won two of the past three Sprint Cup races and that other finish was a third place finish in the Federated Auto Parts 400 two races ago. Normally a guy driving this well would not be getting favorable odds like 6-to-1, so it’s important to jump on it while the opportunity is there. He also happens to be coming off an eighth-place finish at the Bad Boy Off Road 300, so he should be able to improve upon that one and be a serious threat to win on Sunday.

Matt Kenseth (8-to-1) - As previously mentioned, Kenseth has won this race twice in his career (2013, 2015). One of those wins was last year and one could do a lot worse than getting a defending champion at 8-to-1. Kenseth also happens to be driving pretty well coming into this one. He finished in ninth at Chicagoland last week and sixth at the Bojangles’ Southern 500 three races ago. With his last top-five finish coming seven weeks ago, look for Kenseth to be extremely determined in this one and don’t be afraid to put a few units on him.

Chase Elliott (18-to-1) - Chase Elliott has not yet won his first Sprint Cup Series race, but it’s very possible that he does so on Sunday. Elliott has been driving like an absolute stud lately, as he came in second at the Pure Michigan 400 four races ago and third at Chicagoland last week. Elliott’s confidence must be sky high right now, so putting a unit or two on him could end up paying off huge. He certainly needs a victory on Sunday, so he’ll be very determined on the track.

Ryan Newman (50-to-1) - When looking for somebody with a chance to really pay off huge on Sunday, look no further than Newman. As previously mentioned, Newman has won this event twice in his career (2002, 2005). While those may not be wins that came in recent years, he still clearly has some level of comfort when racing in New Hampshire. He finished in 10th here a year ago and is worth putting a half-unit on this Sunday.
