Tony Stewart suffered a broken leg in a sprint car accident Monday night at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa and won't race in this coming weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Watkins Glen International.

The injury likely will end any hope he had of making the post-season Chase.

Stewart suffered a broken tibia (shin bone) and fibula (outer bone) in his right leg, and underwent surgery after being taken from the track by ambulance acccording to a statement from Stewart-Haas Racing. The Des Moines Register reported that track officials said Stewart was conscious and talking to responders after being placed on a stretcher.

The team said an update would be provided Tuesday afternoon, adding that a replacement driver for Stewart at The Glen has not been determined. His No. 14 team has pulled out from today's Goodyear Tire test at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart was leading Monday's race when the lapped car of Josh Higday contacted an infield tire and collected the cars of Stewart, Tasker Phillips and Tony Shilling. The contact sent Stewart's car flipping.

Brian Brown went on to win the 17th Annual Musco Sports Lighting Front Row Challenge.

"Won the front row challenge tonight at Osky (Oskaloosa). Thoughts are with 'Smoke,' though," Brown tweeted. "Not the way we wanted to win. Great job by the boys."

Kyle Larson finished second.

"Ended up seconds again tonight," Larson tweeted. "Hoping Tony is okay."
