Trucks complete testing at Daytona
January 14th, 2008
Daytona Beach, FL (Sports Network) - It was the Craftsman Truck Series' turn to get on the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway track for a testing session that began on Friday morning and ended on Sunday.
The fastest single-car speed was put up by Roush Fenway Racing's Erik Darnell in the No.99 Ford. Darnell, 25, posted a time of 50.407 seconds (178.547 m.p.h.). Scott Lynch, in the No.29 Dodge, and Mike Skinner, in the No.5 Toyota, were second and third quickest, respectively.
Defending champion Ron Hornaday Jr., in the No.33 Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet, was just 16th fastest.
In the "drafting sessions" Justin Marks in the No.9 Toyota was fastest at 48.457 seconds (185.732 m.p.h.). Hornaday Jr. jumped up to second quickest.
Hornaday Jr. will have a new teammate in 2008, his former rival Jack Sprague. Both drivers own three truck series titles.
"Thinking about Jack Sprague as a teammate is pretty weird," Hornaday Jr. said. "I told Kevin (Harvick) that I am going out and spin Sprague out the first time to just let him know who is the boss of KHI."
Sunday's drafting sessions were cut short by rain. The teams now return home and work on their trucks until February 15th when they open up the NASCAR regular season with the Chevy Silverado 250.
