2010 MLB Playoff Picks & Predictions for Wednesday, October 6

The 2010 MLB playoffs kicks off today with match ups in series from both leagues. Read on to check out whom we like today in the NLDS and ALDS.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Phillies –205 money line favorites over the Reds in today’s Game 1 NLDS. The run total for today’s game has been set at 7.
The Reds are 9-1 in Edinson Volquez’s last 10 road starts versus a team with a winning record and 8-1 in his last nine starts as a road underdog. They’re also 8-2 in Volquez’s last 10 starts overall and 8-2 in his last 10 starts during Game 1 of a series.
The Phillies, meanwhile, are just 1-4 in their last five playoff games and 3-9 in their last 12 versus the National League Central. It’s a risk to bet against the Phillies at home when they’re the favored to win the 2010 World Series, but the Reds should be plenty pumped for their first playoff game in over a decade. And at +187 on the money line, they’re being offered at a nice price.

In the American League, the Twins host the Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS tonight at 8:35PM ET. C.C. Sabathia and the Yanks are –145 on the money line, while Francisco Liriano and the Twins are +135.
One key factor in this prediction is the fact that the Yankees are 6-1 in their last seven meetings with the Twins in Minnesota and 54-18 in the last 72 meetings overall.
The Twins, meanwhile, are 0-4 in Liriano’s last four starts against the Yankees. They’re also 1-7 in his last eight starts after scoring two runs or less in their previous game and 1-10 in his last 11 starts against the American League East.
Our prediction for this game is to pony up and take the Yankees at –145. They’ve struggled of late, but this is their time of year. They raise their game in the postseason.
