Mariners put pitcher Erik Bedard on 15-day disabled list

Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his left hip.
The move Tuesday is retroactive to April 9, but the left-hander isn't sure when he might pitch again for his new team. He said the discomfort in his hip is getting better but hasn't gone away.
Seattle traded five players to the Baltimore Orioles in February for the 28-year-old Bedard, boosting hopes of a playoff berth this season. He was scratched from a scheduled start Sunday for the second time in eight days.
Bedard is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in two starts this season after going 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA and 221 strikeouts for Baltimore last year.

- Randy Wolf, Padres, held the Colorado Rockies hitless for 6 2-3 innings and struck out nine in San Diego's 6-0 victory.
- David Wright and Jose Reyes, Mets. Wright homered for the third straight game and drove in five runs during a 6-0 victory over Washington. Reyes tripled, doubled and finished with four hits after missing the previous two games with a strained left hamstring.
- Scott Olsen, Marlins, pitched seven innings of five-hit ball in a 4-0 win over Atlanta, Florida's first shutout since July 17 against St. Louis.
STREAKING
James Loney of the Dodgers and Pittsburgh's Nate McLouth extended their season-opening hitting streaks during Los Angeles' 11-2 victory. They are the only major league players to hit safely in each of their team's first 14 games this year. Kansas City's Billy Butler had his 13-game streak snapped by Seattle on Tuesday. McLouth is the first Pirates player to open a season with a 14-game hitting streak since Hall of Famer Willie Stargell in 1976.
FALSE STEP
The Chicago Cubs lost left fielder and leadoff hitter Alfonso Soriano before he even came to the plate in a 9-5 victory over Cincinnati. Soriano injured his right calf while doing his familiar hop as he caught Ken Griffey Jr.'s inning-ending fly ball in the top of the first. It was initially called a strain, but Soriano was slated to have an MRI on Tuesday night and manager Lou Piniella said he didn't know how long his star will be out. ``It'll probably be a while,'' Piniella said.
COMEBACKS
Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to lead Detroit to a 6-5 win over Minnesota, its second straight win with a rally in the eighth inning. The Tigers scored six times Monday in the eighth inning for an 11-9 win over Minnesota. ... Pedro Feliz's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning off closer Jose Valverde capped a four-run rally that carried Philadelphia to a 4-3 victory over Houston. Pat Burrell tied the score at 3 with a two-run homer.
WELCOME HOME
Derrek Lee hit a three-run homer and started a pivotal double play to help the Chicago Cubs beat former manager Dusty Baker and his Cincinnati Reds 9-5 on a blustery night at Wrigley Field. Baker managed the Cubs for four seasons and got them within five outs of the World Series five years ago, but after a last-place finish in 2006, his contract was not renewed.

Alex Rodriguez got his 400th career double in the Yankees' 5-3 win over Tampa Bay. ... Brian Giles collected his 1,000th RBI in San Diego's 6-0 victory over Colorado. ... Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 595th home run in Cincinnati's 9-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Mariners lefty Arthur Rhodes, who had elbow ligament replacement surgery last May, got one out and allowed two singles in the ninth inning of Seattle's 11-6 win over the Royals. It was his first game since Sept. 9, 2006, with Philadelphia. ... Mets reliever Duaner Sanchez, who hadn't pitched in the majors since injuring his shoulder in a July 2006 taxi accident, was activated from the disabled list and worked a one-hit ninth inning to close out New York's 6-0 win over Washington.
