The Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics begin a short two-game series tonight. Marco Gonzales (10-7 4.24 ERA) will start for Seattle and Daniel Mengden (4-1 4.73 ERA) will start for Oakland. Gonzales has been having a pretty good season, but his numbers have been a little inflated due to two bad back-to-back starts on May 28 and June 2 where he allowed 16 earned runs in 8 2/3 innings. Outside of those two starts, Gonzales has allowed two earned runs or less in 12 of his 18 starts. Mengden has gotten beat up in three of his last four starts, allowing three, five, and six earned runs over 13 1/3 innings. Seattle has gotten the better of Oakland this season, winning seven of 13 and will get another win tonight with the better pitcher on the mound.

Texas Rangers' righty Lance Lynn (12-4, 3.69 ERA) is having a great season and struck out seven while holding Houston scoreless over seven innings in his first start following the All-Star break. Lynn has allowed just two runs over 22 innings through his last three starts and should have no trouble with an Arizona team that has struggled at the plate of late.
Arizona hands the ball to Alex Young (2-0, 0.68 ERA) who has been excellent in his first three major league appearances. Young has allowed a mere three hits in 13 1/3 innings but could be in trouble here as the Rangers are 8-3 in their last 11 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
