The Boston Red Sox are coming off three straight defeats, but at least they had Monday off to figure out how to end the slide while the Toronto Blue Jays were in action with an 11-4 triumph over Kansas City on Canada Day.
I'm happy to take the more rested (and better team), particularly considering the matchup on the mound here Tuesday night.
Red Sox left-hander David Price (5-2, 3.36 ERA) is a dominant 22-3 with a 2.37 ERA in 31 appearances (30 starts) in his career against the Blue Jays. Red Sox are 14-3 in Price's last 17 starts vs. a team with a losing record and 6-1 in his last seven starts with six days of rest.
Toronto turns to right-hander Trent Thornton (2-5, 4.60 ERA) who was tagged with five runs on seven hits (two homers) in 3 1/3 innings at New York Yankees last time out. Thornton might find it hard to bounce back home at Rogers Centre where he's 0-3 with a 6.39 ERA in seven starts.
We can also note that Blue Jays are 2-7 in Thornton's last nine starts vs. a team with a winning record and 4-14 in their last 18 games following a win.

The Kansas City Royals are back at home playing against the Cleveland Indians after a seven-game road trip. The Royals are 4-1 in their last 5 home games against the Indians. Trevor Bauer will start for Cleveland and will be starting against the Royals for the second-straight time. I'll take my chances here with the Tigers getting a win on the road against Chicago. I'm a big fan of Detroit starter Matt Boyd. While he's regressed a little from his sensational start to the season, he is coming off a decent outing against Texas, where he allowed 4 runs in 7 innings with 11 K's. The other big thing is how well Boyd has pitched of late against the White Sox. He's faced them 3 times over the last 3 seasons and has allowed a mere 2 runs on 12 hits with 20 K's in 21 innings of work. You also can't overlook the fact that Chicago is sending out Reynaldo Lopez, who is 4-7 with a 6.12 ERA and 1.575 WHIP in 17 starts. Give me the Tigers -109!

The Cleveland Indians are coming on strong heading into the All-Star Break. They now sit at 45-38 on the season and will take on the hapless Royals, who are 29-55 on the year.
I’ll back the Indians on the Run Line tonight due to the huge edge they have on the mound. Trevor Bauer is 6-6 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.151 WHIP in 18 starts this season, including 4-2 with a 2.04 ERA and 1.012 WHIP in eight road starts. He is also 4-4 with a 3.13 ERA in 14 career starts against Kansas City.
Jake Junis is 4-7 with a 5.23 ERA and 1.468 WHIP in 17 starts this season for the Royals. Junis has never fared well against the Indians, going 2-3 with a 5.36 ERA in seven career starts against them.
The Indians are 6-1 in their last seven games following an off day. They had yesterday off, while the Royals played in Toronto yesterday. Cleveland is 8-1 in its last nine vs. AL Central opponents. The Indians are 4-0 in Bauer’s last four starts. The Royals are 31-85 in their last 116 vs. a team with a winning record. Kansas City is 0-4 in Junis’ last four home starts vs. a team with a winning record. Bet the Indians on the Run Line Tuesday.

The Orioles are bringing up Asher Wojciechowski from the minors and a pitcher they acquired from the Cleveland Indians Monday I exchange for cash considerations. He last pitched in the Majors for the Cincinnati Reds in 2017 and was recently selected as an ASll-Star pitcher for the Triple-A All Star game. Her is 8-23 with a solid 3.61 ERA in 15 starts for Triple-A Columbus this season. So, he is not going to a pushover for the Rays.
The Rays are a money burning 7-17 against the run line after a game where the bullpen threw seven or more innings this season.
