Both the Reds and Angels head into Tuesday after having a day off on Monday. A high total exists based on the Reds' recent runs-galore series against the Brewers, and Tuesday’s starters. The Reds Tyler Mahle is coming off his deepest outing of the season of seven innings. Prior he had pitched four straight games of five innings or less. Opposite, Andrew Heaney of the Angels has struggled returning from the DL. Grab the value on the contrarian selection here of the Under (-114).

The Chicago Cubs took advantage of the Braves on Monday, but will be in for a hard test Tuesday. Making his first start as a Cub will be pitcher Albert Alzolay. Difficulty taming a lineup of the Braves that has won 13 of 17 games will be a hard challenge. This is the series where the bullpen woes catch up to them. Look for the Cubs bats to repeat Monday’s strong performance.

The Tampa Bay Rays are on the third leg of their road trip that has already featured stops in New York and Oakland. The next three-game series is against the Minnesota Twins. Struggling Rays starter Blake Snell has lasted just three innings combined his last two starts while giving up nine runs. With Snell’s confidence waning look for the Rays second-best road record (25 wins) to give them a boosted edge. Grab the Rays.

Max Fried is 8-3 with a 4.03 ERA this season, however in June he has a 6.53 ERA. On the road he has a 4.75 ERA. In his only game of the season, Adbert Alzolay went four innings only giving up one run on one hit. The Cubs are 28-14 at home and 5-3 as the home underdog. This should be a good game, but I like the Cubs bats at home with this price.

Jesse Chavez has been used as an opener this season, but he will be making a legitimate start today. He is 2-1 with a .58 ERA in his last 21 appearances and went five innings giving up one run in his last outing. Jordan Zimmermann is 0-4 with a 6.03 ERA. In one start since returning from the IL, he went four innings allowing three runs. The Rangers are 16-4 as the favorite and 3-0 as the road favorite. The Tigers are 11-25 at home and 6-22 as the home dog. Lay the road favorite.

Chris Bassitt is 4-3 with a 3.64 ERA this season while Jack Flaherty is 4-4 with a 4.24 ERA. Chris Bassitt has been about as consistent as it gets for the Athletics starters without Frankie Montas, and he is coming off taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Jack Flaherty has been very average this season, he is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in his last seven starts. Take the value in the Athletics.

Logan Allen was a nice surprise in his MLB debut for the Padres, holding a strong Brewers lineup to no runs on three hits over seven innings. Now he gets an Orioles lineup that’s hitting .229 and averaging 3.7 runs in the month of June. Meanwhile, the Padres average two additional runs per game this month as Baltimore goes the opener route on the mound. The team has the 29th-ranked bullpen.

Blake Snell is still Blake Snell, but he hasn't acted like it lately, with a 10.29 ERA over his last four starts. Here Snell faces the best lefty-hitting team in MLB, batting .296 with an .873 OPS against them. Twins starter Kyle Gibson is allowing hitters to bat .291 against him on the road, but at Target Field that number is just .205. And we get the Twins at an underdog price.

We'll see how long reliever-turning-starter Jesse Chavez goes. He went five innings last time out and allowed one run against the Indians, and he's allowed just two runs over his last 32 innings pitched. He faces a Tigers team that's scored three runs or less in eight of the last 12 games, while the Rangers' hot bats face winless Jordan Zimmermann and his 6.03 ERA.

The Phillies' offense has been a no-show as the team has lost seven of eight and is in a freefall. But face the Mets with Walker Lockett, who was crushed in his MLB debut last time out and averaged roughly one strikeout every two innings in the minors. Jake Arrieta is having his own issues but has thrown two quality starts in a row and tossed others in his two starts against the Mets. The Phillies need to bounce back here.

CUBS +100 (Fried-Alzolay)
First start for Adbert Alzolay, who I have pegged as the best pitching prospect in the Cubs organization. My tendency to back first time starters is in play here, once again with the unfamiliarity on the part of the hitters a big key. But unlike some lesser talents who I've backed successfully, Alzolay is a kid with a chance to stick right away in the Cubs rotation. His fastball is now mid-90's and he's touching 98. Good curve that generates swings and misses. If the changeup continues to improve, we're looking at a potential #1-2 starter. Alzolay has been terrific at AAA, and got his big league feet wet with a very impressive four inning relief stint against the Mets. Max Fried pitches for the Braves, so this is no cinch. Fried, although he's been a little shaky lately, has been mostly good for Atlanta and they have a good team record when he throws. The Cubs are not as potent offensively against lefties, so this isn't perfect. But I like the idea of backing Alzolay and the price is definitely right. Cubs are the choice.
