MLB | Brewers vs Pirates
Play on: Pirates +110 at BMaker

Play - Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Lyles (Game 903).

Pirates: Agrazal 2.25 ERA with 1.00 WHIP home this season … Brewers: Lyles 1-9 with 8.91 ERA and 2.05 ERA last nine team-starts, and 1-7 career team-starts in this series … We recommend a 1* play on Pittsburgh.

MLB | Phillies vs Diamondbacks
Play on: Phillies +106 at BMaker

5-STAR ON THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES AS THEY TAKE ON THE ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS IN MLB ACTION SET TO START AT 9:40 PM EST.

Losing a three-game series at home to a non-playoff contender like the Chicago White Sox is not the smoothest roadmap for the Phillies to reach the playoffs. Still, as much struggles as they have endured over the past 60 games they remain solidly in the hunt for a wild card berth. So, with a bit of sarcasm perhaps they will play better facing a much stronger opponent in the Diamondbacks. The machine learning projections are for the Phillies to win this game.

The Phillies will send Vince Velasquez (3-6, 4.40) to the hill to face the Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly (7-11, 4.92). Velasquez played leftfield in the Friday Night 15-inning marathon game against the CWS and threw out a runner with a lazer from leftfield to save the game in the 14th inning and nearly did it again in the 15th. His energy is undeniable and he may be just what the Phillies need to start a winning streak.

He has posted a 4.78 ERA allowing 17 earned runs on 30 hits with eight walks and 40 strikeouts over his last seven starts spanning 32 innings. Having more strikeouts than innings pitched si a sign that he still has the velocity and movement behind his fastball, which at this point of the season many pitchers start to lose along with a decrease in spin rates.

The machine learning projections call for Velasquez will complete at least 5 1/3 innings and will complete more innings than Kelly and have at least two multiple run innings. IN past road games where the Phillies have achieved or exceeded these performance measures they have earned a remarkable 203-19 for 91.4% wins and producing a 79% ROI. This season they have gone 8-2 for 80% and a 49% ROI.

Take the Phillies.

Take the Brewers

The Pirates are in an awful slump having dropped 12 of their last 14. It won't get any better for them today as Jordan Lyles takes on his old team. Lyles had a nice debut with the Brewers against the A's and I like him to follow that up against the slumping Pirates. Pirates starter Dario Agrazl has struggled his last two starts and I expect him to have trouble with the Brewers line up. Take Milwaukee in this one.

Point Spread: -1½/-115 Tampa Bay

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach MLB Rotation #920 Monday Free Pick Tampa Bay Rays Run Line -1.5 runs -115 vs Toronto Blue Jays @ 7:10 ET - The Rays enter this series on a 6-game winning streak. Tampa Bay's Charlie Morton has been a model of consistency all season long with nearly identical numbers on the road and at home combining for a 12-3 record and 2.78 ERA! The Blue Jays Jacob Waguespack has the misfortune of facing the Rays for the 3rd time already even though he has only made 7 MLB appearances this season. Of course familiarity generally leads to success for the hitters and this is particularly true when the pitcher is a rookie. Waguespack has allowed 6 runs (5 earned) in his 9 innings against Tampa Bay this season. He struggled much more in his 2nd start against the Rays than he did in the first so you know what to expect here. 54 of the Rays 65 wins this season have come by 2 or more runs. 51 of the Blue Jays 69 losses this season have come by a margin of two or more runs. Given the pitching match-up, the Rays hot streak, and the numbers above, you can see why are very comfortable with the run line on the home team in this one. Free Pick TAMPA BAY -1.5 runs

I’m going to take a shot with the Baltimore Orioles today. This is a good time to fade the Yankees, who are going to have a letdown after just sweeping the rival Boston Red Sox over the weekend. The Orioles are 6-4 in their last 10 games overall and have scored at least 6 runs in all six victories. Gabriel Ynoa has pitched well at home this season for the Orioles with a 3.72 ERA in four starts. Masahiro Tanaka is 1-4 with a 7.40 ERA in nine road starts. Tanaka is getting rocked of late with a 12.83 ERA in his last three starts. He had an 8.77 ERA in the month of July. Give me the Orioles.

Dave’s Monday Free Play:

1* on Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 (-125)

The Key: The Tampa Bay Rays are 8-1 in their last 9 games overall. They have a big advantage on the rubber tonight with Charlie Morton over Jacob Wagespack. Morton is 12-3 with a 2.78 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 23 starts this year, including 6-1 with a 2.77 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 10 home starts. Morton is 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA in 4 lifetime starts against the Blue Jays. Waguespack is 1-1 with a 4.71 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 4 starts this year. He yielded 3 runs and 9 base runners in 5 innings of a 1-3 loss to the Rays back on July 26th. The Blue Jays are 13-33 in their last 46 against a team with a winning record. The Rays are 37-15 in their last 52 against a team that wins less than 40% of their games. Take Tampa Bay on the Run Line.

MLB | Angels vs Reds
Play on: Reds -1½ -105 at BMaker

My free play is a run-line play on the Cin Reds at 7:10 ET. The Cincinnati Reds gained a split of their four-game series with the Atlanta Braves after a 6-4 win in 10 innings on Sunday. The Red blew a tw-run 9th-inning lead but Tucker Barnhardt's three-run HR in the top of the 10th was the game-winner, as Cincinnati won for the SIXTH time in its last nine games. Cincy trails the first-place Cubs by 7 1/2 games in the NL Central but the Reds remain on the periphery of the NL wild-card race, 5 1/2 games back of the second spot. However, FIVE teams are ahead of them. The Reds open a six-game homestand on Monday with the first of two interleague contests with the LA Angels. LA 'limps' into Cincinnati on a 2-8 stretch, which leaves the team 56-57, NINE games back of the AL's second wild card spot. The Angels lost 6-2 at Cleveland on Sunday and open this two-game series having scored a total of just EIGHT runs during their four-game losing streak. LA prospect Patrick Sandoval will be promoted from Triple-A to make his first career start for Los Angeles on Monday, opposite Cincy All-Star Luis Castillo (10-4, 2.63 ERA). Sandoval was drafted by Houston in 2015, before being traded to the Angels in 2018. His numbers at Salt Lake City are hardly inspiring, as he was 4-4 with a 6.41 ERA in 15 starts. All told, he is 20-18 with a 4.01 ERA in his minor league career but he has recorded 383 strikeouts in 330.1 innings. Castillo pitched in his first All-Star Game on July 9 and ended the month 3-1 with a 3.13 ERA (team was 4-1). He allowed six ERs in that lone loss but in the other four games (all Cincy wins), he allowed just five ERs over innings 26.2 innings (1.69 ERA). Castillo has never faced the Angels in his three-year career. The Reds enter this two-game IL series with the Angels, having gone 3-0-1 in the team's last four series. Meanwhile, the Angels are headed in the opposite direction, having lost all three series during their 2-8 stretch. This marks Castillo's fourth straight start at home, where he's posted a 2.20 ERA and allowed just 50 hits over 82 innings with an 85-28 KW ratio (0.95 WHIP), while holding opponents to a .178 BAA. Castillo (minus-1 1/2 runs) over Sandoval is the play. Good luck...Larry

MLB | A's vs Cubs
Play on: A's +140 at 5dimes

1* Free MLB Pick on Oakland A's +140

This is a solid price here to back the A's on the road in Monday's series opener in Chicago against the Cubs. Oakland just took 4 of 5 at home against the other two NL Central powers in the Brewers and Cardinals. The A's have won 3 straight and 6 of 7 overall.

Oakland will send out Chris Bassitt for this one and he's pitched very effectively in 2019 with a 3.84 ERA and 1.172 WHIP in 18 starts. Cubs will have the red-hot Kyle Hendricks on the mound, but note that Chicago has struggled to score runs when he's starting. Cubs have scored 3 or fewer in each of his last 7 outings and are just 1-6 in those 7 starts.

As good as the Cubs have been at home of late, A's are an impressive 22-10 in their last 32 on the road. They have also won 18 of their last 26 series openers and are 6-1 in Bassitt's last 7 series openers. Take Oakland!

10* FREE MLB PICK (Under 10)

I'll be honest this seems like too good of a number, but I just can't help but take the UNDER here in Monday's interleague matchup between the Braves and Twins. You got Atlanta sending out Mike Soroka, who is 10-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 19 starts and has gone 6-0 with a 1.20 ERA and 0.931 WHIP in 11 road starts. Minnesota will counter with Jake Odorizzi, who is 6-1 with a 3.81 ERA in 10 home starts. UNDER is 24-9 in the Twins last 33 games in the 2nd half of the season vs a team that's won 54% to 62% of their games. UNDER is also a dominant 10-1 in the Twins last 11 after shutting out a division foe in their last game. Give me the UNDER 10!

MLB | Phillies vs Diamondbacks
Play on: Diamondbacks -104 at Pinnacle

Jack’s Free Pick Monday: Arizona Diamondbacks -104

The Arizona Diamondbacks are 2.5 games back in the wild card race. One of the teams they are trailing is the Philadelphia Phillies, which makes this series very important for them. The Diamondbacks come in with a lot of confidence at the plate right now after scoring a combined 25 runs against the Nationals the past two days. Stephen Strasburg and Pat Corbin were the starters for those two games, making that feat even more impressive.

Merrill Kelly has held his own for the Diamondbacks this season with a 4.52 ERA and 1.269 WHIP in 22 starts. Kelly has been at his best at home, posting a 3.77 ERA and 1.106 WHIP in 10 home starts this season. He pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings in his lone career start against the Phillies back on June 12th.

Vincent Velasquez is 2-5 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.288 WHIP in 13 starts this season. He is averaging just 4.7 innings per start and has already allowed 15 homers in 61 1/3 innings pitched. Velasquez is 0-2 with an 8.30 ERA in his last two starts against the Diamondbacks.

The Phillies are 11-33 in their last 44 road games vs. NL West opponents. Philadelphia is 2-9 in Velasquez’s last 11 starts during Game 1 of a series. The Diamondbacks are 12-4 in their last 16 meetings, including 5-1 in the last six meetings in Arizona. Bet the Diamondbacks Monday.

MLB | Cardinals vs Dodgers
Play on: Cardinals +160 at 5dimes

1* Free Play on Cardinals +160

The Dodgers (74-40) have enjoyed a huge lead in the NL West for quite a while, which has allowed them to start auditioning pitchers for their staff come playoff time. Tony Gonsolin (0-1, 5.63 ERA) is next to try out when the Cardinals (58-52) come to town.

Although Gonsolin managed a four-inning save against the Rockies, he gave up six total runs in a four-inning loss to the Diamondbacks in his lone career start in June. Gonsolin’s inexperience looks to be good news for the road-dog Cardinals.

St. Louis will give the ball to Michael Wacha (6-5, 5.15 ERA), who’s walked two or fewer batters in each of his last nine appearances. The Cardinals right-hander has been good against the likes of Joc Pederson, holding the Dodgers hitter to a .214 average in 14 at-bats.

The Cardinals are happy to have back both Matt Carpenter and Marcell Ozuna, who leads the club with 62 RBIs. Catcher Yadier Molina is still out, but Matt Weiters has been very good in his stead. On top of throwing out 47% of potential base stealers, Weiters is batting .271 with five homers since the All-Star break.

Monday free play on the Rays on the Run Line to keep right on rolling.

Tampa Bay may not be able to make up the 8 games that they are behind the New York Yankees in the division standings, but they are right there in the mix for a Wild Card spot come October.

Tampa enters play today riding a 6 game win streak, and they have won 8 of their last 9 games overall. Included in their current stretch is 2 of 3 wins at Toronto from July 26th-28th.

The Blue Jays were riding a 5 game winning streak - all on the road - but did drop their last pair of games in Baltimore against the Orioles, and they are just 2-7 this year in the season series against the Rays.

Jacob Waguespack and his 2-1 mark will oppose Charlie Morton who stands at 12-3 for the season. Morton worked 4-plus innings back in April against Toronto with one run allowed in a no-decision. I like him to work deeper into the night, and keep the Jays from crossing the plate more than once or twice at the most.

Rays are rolling, and roll again tonight.

3* TAMPA BAY -1 1/2 RUNS

TONY WESTON

Let's shake off yesterday's no play on the Minnesota Twins Run Line, and move on to Monday's free winner, as I like the Cleveland Indians against the Texas Rangers. And I'm playing the Tribe on the run line.

IMPORTANT: As you know every single Run Line play and Total wager will automatically list the scheduled starting pitchers at the time of the wager. But with this game I am not concerned with who is pitching for either team tonight and want you playing this game on the Run Line regardless. That said, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be sure you have action even if one of the pitchers scheduled to start is scratched, by betting the game over again in the event that takes place.

I know both these teams are bringing hot streaks into the series, but Cleveland has arguably been baseball's hottest team since June 4, posting a 37-15 mark in that span. The surge has the Indians just three games back of the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central. And with the Twins hosting the Atlanta Braves, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Indians draw closer by the time they head to Minneapolis next weekend.

And I'm not so sure the Rangers are all that dangerous while traveling, as they rank 19th in the league with a .246 road batting average. To be able to contend with an offense that generated the fourth-most runs last month, and are tied for the ninth-most four days into August, it's going to be tough.

I'm playing Cleveland in this one, as it'll open the series with a blowout win, and its eyes on catching the Twins in the Central.

CHRIS JORDAN

My free play for tonight is on the Angels, who travel from Anaheim to Cincinnati, where they face the Reds and ace pitcher Luis Castillo.

But it's the Angels starting pitcher, Patrick Sandoval, who I'm intrigued by and want you listing.

The left-hander makes his Major League debut tonight after posting a 6.41 ERA in 15 starts at Triple-A Salt Lake. Does that scare me, such a big number? Not really, as I've never really been concerned with how a young pitcher performs at the minor league level. Many times you don't know what the pitcher is working on. Whether it is one pitch, or timely delivery, or the spin of the ball.

Fact is, there is no true scouting report on this kid, and against a shoddy offense like Cincinnati's, I think this kid could throw a gem.

He has the right lineup to back him up, as the Angels are a far better threat at the plate than Cincinnati's hitters. And while Castillo may rank in the top 10 of National League pitchers in ERA, wins, strikeouts, winning percentage and opponents’ batting average, he's never faced the Angels.

That means he's never faced the likes of Mike Trout or Matt Thaiss or Albert Pujols or Kole Calhoun or Shohei Ohtani ... this lineup can be tough.

Let's take a shot here with the Halos and list only their rookie starter.

1* ANGELS (Listing Sandoval only)

JACK BRAYMAN

My free winner for tonight is on the Chicago Cubs against the Oakland Athletics, and I won't bother listing pitchers in this one.

Both teams are on an uptick, but now that Oakland is done helping the Cubs out with wins over the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers in Interleague action, it's time bring the Athletics back down to reality.

The Cubs have won three straight, and welcome the A's to Wrigley Field for the first time in more than nine years.

I know the A's are a half-game behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the second wild-card spot, and are 14-7 since the All-Star Break and are on a 28-12 run, but the Cubs are streaking too.

Chicago - which is 39-18 at Wrigley - is on an 11-2 run at home, and 22-9 overall after Sunday's 7-2 win over the Brewers.

I won't bother listing pitchers in this one, but it's important to note Oakland starter Chris Bassitt is 0-3 with a 3.35 ERA in seven career interleague starts.

I'll roll with Chicago tonight, as it brings one of the better home lineups to the plate, and will dominate whomever the Athletics have on the mound with a slugging percentage (.454) that ranks 11th in the bigs at home.

All Cubs.

4* CUBS (straight action)
