MLB | Astros vs Giants
Play on: Astros -138 at BetPhoenix

My free play is on the Hou Astros at 10:15 ET. The Dodgers snapped the Astros’ four-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory on Sunday, a game in which George Springer suffered a left thumb injury. It's feared that he could join a star-studded Houston disabled list that includes Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Lance McCullers Jr. 71-42 Houston owns MLB's second-best record, as well as a four-game lead over the A's in the NL West. The Astros begin a brief two-game interleague series against the host San Francisco Giants on Monday. San Francisco kept alive its long-shot playoff hopes by securing its first winning road trip of the season (4-2) with Sunday’s 3-2 victory at Arizona. Evan Longoria belted a tie-breaking HR in the eighth inning and is batting .357 with two doubles, a triple and two blasts in 10 games since returning from a broken hand on July 26. The victory came despite the Giants scoring just three runs. It's notable that the Giants are 44-13 when scoring at least four runs and just 13-43 when registering three or fewer.

Charlie Morton (12-2, 2.90 ERA) takes the mound for Houston, looking for his 13th win (he won a career-high 14 games in 2017). Morton helped the Astros snap a season-high five-game losing streak with a solid outing this past Tuesday, when he allowed two runs while striking out eight over six innings against Seattle in a 5-2 victory. Morton is now 26-9 with a 3.29 ERA in 46 starts since joining Houston at the beginning of last season. He owns a 4-4 record and 2.59 ERA in 12 career starts against San Francisco, going 2-2 with a 3.82 mark in six outings at AT&T Park.

Dereck Rodriguez (5-1, 2.59 ERA) will get the ball for the Giants. Rodriguez has entered the National League R-O-Y discussion after going 3-0 with a 1.49 ERA over his last seven games (six starts / team is 5-1). The son of Hall-of-Famer Ivan Rodriguez tossed a career-high seven innings against San Diego on Tuesday, allowing one run and three hits while striking out seven in a 3-2 San Francisco win. The 26-year-old Rodriguez will be facing Houston for the first time but takes an impressive 54-to-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 66 innings this season into tonight's contest.

No way to knock Pudge's son but Morton's 12-2 record this year gives him the best winning percentage (.857) among all major league pitchers with 10 or more decisions. San Francisco is a more than respectable 32-22 at home but the Houston owns MLB's best road record at 39-18, outscoring opponents 5.60-to-2.93 RPG. Take the Astros.

Play on: UNDER 8½ -110

Monday MLB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Detroit and Los Angeles at 10:05 pm et on Monday.

I'll back the 'under' at Angel Stadium on Monday night.

Matthew Boyd will take the ball for the Tigers. He has worked at least six innings in three of his last four starts. Over his last three outings, Boyd has given up just three earned runs in 19 innings of work. Note that the 'under' has cashed in three of his last four trips to the hill.

Nick Tropeano will counter for Los Angeles. He has been struggling a bit lately but does check in having worked at least into the sixth inning in each of his last two starts. His pitch counts have certainly been kept in check so his arm should still be fresh even as we head into the second week of August. The last time Tropeano faced the Tigers he gave up just two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in Detroit back on May 29th.

Neither of these clubs are scoring with much consistency lately. Look for a relatively low-scoring affair on Monday night. Take the under (8*).

MLB | Cardinals vs Marlins
Play on: Marlins +150

St. Louis (Weaver) @ Miami (Chen) 7:10 PM ET

Game# 951-952

Play On: Miami +150

The Cardinals Luke Weaver has displayed poor form over his last 3 starts while compiling a mammoth 2.13 WHIP during those outings. St. Louis will be facing a Miami team which currently owns a terrible 46-67 (.407) record. The Cardinals are a dismal 2-8 this season when facing teams with a win percentage of .380 to .460, and they were outscored by an average of 3.2 runs per game.

Miami’s Wei-Yin Chen has an uninspiring 5.86 ERA in 17 starts this season. However, Chen has pitched extremely better at home than on the road in 2018. Throughout 8 starts at Marlins Park, Chen has collected a stellar 2.18 ERA. Chen is also an extremely profitable 19-9 in his career team starts as a money line home underdog of +100 or greater. Bet on the Marlins for my Monday 8/6 MLB free pick of the day.

10* FREE MLB PICK (Marlins +150)

I'll take my chances here with Miami as a big home dog against the Cardinals. The Marlins aren't a great team, but this price is too good to pass up given the pitching matchup. Miami will send out Wei-Yin Chen, who has a sensational 2.18 ERA and 1.103 WHIP in 8 home starts. St Louis will send out Luke Weaver, who is 6-9 with a 4.90 ERA and 1.418 WHIP in 22 starts. Weaver lasted just 2 2/3 innings in his last start. The Cardinals have no business being this big of a favorite with him on the mound. Miami has won 13 of Chen's lats 18 home starts and are 4-1 in their last 5 at home vs a team with a winning record. The Cardinals are 3-10 in their last 13 after a win and 2-5 in their last 7 vs a team with a losing record. Give me the Marlins +150!

Monday's freebie is the Over in the Phillies-Diamondbacks game.

All 3 April meetings between the teams did land Over the total, and this one will as well.

Arizona is on an 8-2 Over run their last 10 games, and they will get to tee off on Jake Arrieta who has seen 2 of his last 3 starts land Over the posted price.

Zack Godley will counter, and he has also seen 2 of his last 3 starts end up playing Over the total.

It won't be a crazy number tonight, but a few runs here, a few runs there, and all of the sudden the Phils and D-Backs will be Over the total come the end of 9 innings.

3* PHILADELPHIA-ARIZONA OVER

Monday comp play will be Minnesota and Cleveland to land Under the total.

These teams just played a 3 game set to end July, and all 3 landed Under the total. Included was a 6-2 final in a game that was started by tonight's pitchers, Kyle Gibson and Trevor Bauer.

Gibson has seen his last pair of starts hold Under the total, and 3 of his last 4 overall have also landed Under the total. His road ERA for the year is 2.94 and 7 of his 11 road starts have ended up holding Under the total.

Trevor Bauer has also seen his last pair of starts, and 3 of his last 4 starts overall end up holding Under the total. His ERA at home this season is a scant 2.02.

I just don't think we are going to be seeing very many runs cross the dish this Monday night in Cleveland.

Twins-Indians Under.

3* MINNESOTA-CLEVELAND UNDER

My free play is the Minnesota Twins in Cleveland, as I like the road dog to shock the frontrunning Indians. And in this one, be sure to list Kyle Gibson over Trevor Bauer.

Gibson will be facing the Indians for a second straight start and is coming into this one with revenge after taking a loss, despite a quality outing last Tuesday at home. Gibson gave up three runs over six innings with six strikeouts against the Tribe. He'll be at his best to avenge that start.

Bauer, meanwhile, allowed two runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings last Tuesday in Minnesota, ending the appearance with three strikeouts. The Twins will remember that. That snapped a 12-start streak with at least seven strikeouts for Bauer, who has a 2.02 ERA in his past 15 turns.

Take a shot with the Twins here.

2* TWINS (Gibson over Bauer)

Sometimes you have to rely on trends. Sometimes they're relevant to a situation, and can solidify a pick. When I handicapped tonight's card, mid-day Sunday before the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees took the field, I had the Chicago White Sox penciled in.

After the Yankees took it on the chin for their fifth straight loss, I loved the South Siders even more.

Chicago has won four in a row and catches a tired - emotionally and physically - Yankees team that was just swept in Boston over the weekend. New York has lost six of 10, and in that span its pitching staff has a 5.65 ERA while the team is mired in a -10 run differential.

Now you add in a relevant losing trend, and it's a wrap for me.

Teams playing the Monday after playing the Sunday night game are a dismal 6-13 this season. Even worse, when you put that team on the road, it is 2-9.

The Yankees bring their slump to the South Side, where they'll try to tame an offense that is slugging .408 this season, and is led by Yolmer Sanchez's 100 hits and his .244 batting average ranks 58th in the American League. Avisail Garcia has been terror on the basepaths this season, leading the White Sox with six runs scored over the past 10 games.

Take Chicago here, as the day-after Sunday slump continues for teams having to travel and play the next day.

2* CHICAGO

Eric Schroeder

My free winner for tonight is in Anaheim, where the Angels host the once-again slumping Detroit Tigers and will win big.

I am not listing pitchers in this one, as it will not matter whatsoever.

I don't care who goes for the Angels because they've been more prolific with the long ball this season, hitting 151 home runs on the year. Of course, Mike Trout paces the lineup with 30 and there is nothing any Detroit pitcher can do. There is also Justin Upton, who is batting .256 with a .345 on-base percentage and .443 slugging percentage in 110 games this season, while Kole Calhoun leads the Angels with seven runs scored over the past 10 games.

The Tigers have dropped their last three games, and have lost six of 10. During that 10-game span, Detroit has a paltry .210 batting average and has been outscored by 12 runs.

Take the Halos tonight.

1* ANGELS

Play on: Tigers +135 at 5Dimes

Jack’s Free Pick Monday: Detroit Tigers +135

The Detroit Tigers are showing great value as road underdogs to the Los Angeles Angels tonight. The Angels have reached the point at 55-58 on the season where they are starting to realize they won’t be making the playoffs.

I like getting the Tigers as dogs today because of their advantage on the mound. Matt Boyd is 6-9 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.150 WHIP in 21 starts this season, including 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA and 0.895 WHIP in his last three. He is also 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one career start against the Angels, which came in a 9-3 Detroit victory on May 28 this year.

Nick Tropeano is 4-6 with a 4.94 ERA and 1.366 WHIP in 13 starts for the Angels this season. He has been at his worst at home, going 1-3 with a 5.70 ERA and 1.431 WHIP in seven starts. He is also 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA and 1.412 WHIP in his lsat three starts.

The Angels are 13-31 (-19.3 units) vs. a starting pitcher who strikes out 5 or more batters per start this season. Los Angeles is 7-22 (-16.6 units) vs. an AL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.200 or better this season. Detroit is 6-2 in its last eight games following a loss. Bet the Tigers Monday.

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Pirates/Rockies UNDER 10.5

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies should play in a low-scoring affair tonight at Coors Field. Joe Musgrove has a 1.80 ERA on the road this season and a 3.32 ERA in his last three starts. Kyle Freeland has an impressive 2.45 ERA in nine home starts this season. He has a 3.20 ERA in 22 starts overall this season and has clearly been the Rockies’ best starter. The UNDER is 12-3-1 in Rockies’ last 16 home games. The UNDER is 21-4 in Freeland’s last 25 home starts. Give me the UNDER.

New York is the worst team in the WNBA even worse then Indiana IMO. They have lost 6 straight games and know must take on the best team in the WNBA the Seattle Storm. New York has one advantage the long travel but the Storm have had a few days off so I don't see that being an issue get in early and invest in this easy WNBA investment winner. 9 units on the Storm rotation #311
