The Houston offense has been held in check over the first three games in Tampa Bay, limited to just five runs total. Making that more surprising is that those games were against poor pitching and the Astros face their toughest test today. Despite losses in the last two games, Houston is 28-8 against the moneyline as a road favorite of -125 or more this season. Tampa Bay has won seven of its last eight games while allowing two runs or less in seven of those games as well. Blake Snell has been outstanding this season with a 2.31 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 17 starts but Tampa Bay is just 10-7 in those games as his run support has been inconsistent. He should not receive much today as the Rays face Charlie Morton who has been nearly as solid as he has a 2.54 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 16 starts, 12 of which have been quality outings. Here, we play on American League favorites with a mone line of -125 to -175 (that are averaging 5.1 or more rpg with a starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.30 or better on the season going up against a starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.50 or better. This situation is 41-9 (82 percent) over the last five seasons.

We have a couple of quality starters going today and we like this game to fall under the total. The starting pitchers for today’s game are for the Pirates RH Jameson Taillon (5-6, 3.96 ERA) and he will face the Padres RH Tyson Ross (5-5, 3.32 ERA) Taillon has had an okay year for the Pirates and we believe he is much better than his record. When Taillion pitches during the day, he has been real good sporting a 3-1 record with a 2.82 ERA. We will look for Taillion to keep this a low-scoring game. As for Ross, he is arguably the Padres ace. In saying this he has pitched well of late sporting a 2.84 ERA in his last three starts. We believe we will have a good pitchers duel today at Petco. Backing our selection is the fact that the Under is 8-2-1 in Taillons last 11 road starts and the fact that the Under is 8-0 in Padres last 8 games following a win. So let’s get the job done with the Pittsburgh/San Diego game UNDER 7 1/2 as your free play for today.
