Over the past five years, the Cleveland Indians have owned the Detroit Tigers. This trend will likely continue today as the reigning Cy Young winner in Corey Kluber will face the Indians. Kluber has won both starts vs the Tigers this year, allowing two runs in 16 innings. But now he has an extra days rest and will be nearly impossible to beat. The Indians bats will look to beat up on Jordan Zimmermann again, as he's 0-4 with a 10.57 ERA when facing the Indians. No matter how you look at it, the Indians have the clear advantage here.

That is noteworthy here as, since June 10th, the Phils have lost 3 straight games only once and I don't see that happening again here. Philadelphia's Zach Eflin is off of a rare sub-par start as that was preceded by the Phillies going 6-1 in his 7 prior start as he compiled a 2.32 ERA. Cincinnati's Luis Castillo is off of a strong start but the Reds were just 4-5 in his 9 prior starts as the right-hander compiled a 5.67 ERA during this rough stretch. With yesterday's win, Cincy is going for 3 straight W's Sunday but that is noteworthy too because the Reds have only won 3 straight a single time since late June. The Reds had averaged only 3.3 runs per game the first 8 games of this homestand before yesterday's win. The Phillies had averaged scoring 6.4 runs per game in their 8 games since the All Star break that were prior to yesterday's disappointing effort. My free play is on the LA Angels at 4:05 ET. The LA Angels opened the 2018 season 13-3 but found themselves just one game over .500 (49-48) at the All Star break. LA currently sits at 54-52, having four in a row, while reaching double digits in runs in four of the team's past seven games. Angels catcher Francisco Arcia drove in six runs in a 11-5 victory Saturday night, giving him a major league record 10 RBI in the first two games of his career. Arcia, who after 12 seasons in the minor leagues, had a three-run HR in is his big league debut (his first hit!) in Thursday's 12-8 win over the White Sox. LA won 4-2 (10 inn) on Friday, giving them a chance for a three-game sweep of Seattle in the series finale on Sunday. The 61-43 Mariners are looking to 'right the ship' somewhat, as they have gone just 6-12 since July 4. With back-to-back losses to LA in this series, the Angels have moved within eight of Seattle for the second wild card spot in the American League.
Seattle is hoping that Marco Gonzales (11-5, 3 .38 ERA) will pick them up in order to avoid getting swept, as the team is 14-6 (plus-$705) in his 20 starts here in 2018. He is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in his previous four starts against the Angels this season, with the Mariners winning all four contests. Gonzales allowed one run and five hits over six innings against the visiting Angels in a 4-1 win on July 5 and then six days later, faced Los Angeles in Anaheim for the first time this season and threw seven shutout innings in a 3-0 win. Felix Pena (1-1, 3.34 ERA), a reliever turned starter this season, will take the mound for the Angels. Pena's first 38 appearances came out of the bullpen before he made his first career start June 19 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has a 2.73 ERA in six starts overall (Angels are 3-3). He has never faced the Mariners in his three-year career and in fact, this will be the first against an American League West opponent.
Gonzales will make his 21st start in this one (matching a team-high) plus he owns a team-high 11 wins and a team-best 3.38 ERA among starters. Yes, the Mariners have won all four his his starts against the Angels in 2018 but right now, LA is playing better baseball than Seattle, and I'll back them to complete the home sweep.

This is a Free play on CLE@DET to go Over 8. The Indians will be a big favorite in Game 3 in the Motor City, but ace Corey Kluber has been roughed up recently. The Indians have also had more than their fair share of success against Tigers starter Jordan Zimmerman. Kluber (12-6, 2.88 ERA) was lit up for seven runs on nine hits in just four innings in a home loss to the Pirates his last time out. He's given up six or more runs in three of his last five starts, and he has pedestrian numbers versus Detroit. He's 10-7 with a 3.67 ERA in 24 appearances lifetime versus the Tigers. Zimmerman (4-2, 3.97 ERA) has allowed eight runs on 18 hits, including four home runs over 11 2/3 innings in his last two starts. He's been absolutely clobbered by Cleveland. Sunday comp play is the Braves to avoid the ugly sweep at home against the Dodgers.
The Braves are in a tailspin, as they enter today riding a 4-game losing streak, and they have been on the wrong side in 9 of their last 13 overall.
Today they do have a bit on an intangible in play, as Atlanta's beloved Chipper Jones will get his plaque put up on the wall in Cooperstown this afternoon, and I have a feeling that "mojo" coupled with the fact the Braves have won 11 of their last 15 Sunday games is going to lead to a victory with Sean Newcomb on the hill.
Newcomb is stuck on 9 wins as he takes the ball today. He is 9-5, and today is as good a day as any to notch that elusive 10th win as he opposes Ross Stripling who is 8-2 for the year for the first place Dodgers.
It's been a real grind of late for both myself and the Braves, but today the Bravos give Hall-of-Famer Chipper Jones a present on his induction day.

My free play for tonight is on the Angels over Seattle, and I'm not listing pitchers.
The Angels will once again carry the momentum over from last night's win and topple the Mariners. The Halos used a 4-3, 10-inning victory over Seattle in the opener of a three-game series to gain steam, and then blasted the M's 11-5 last night. The Halos have now won four straight.
The Mariners have been struggling offensively, scoring 3.25 runs per game in July after scoring 4.74 runs per game in March/April, 4.07 runs in May and 4.50 in June.
Seattle, which is on a 6-12 skid since the Angels snapped its eight-game win streak with a victory at Safeco on July 4, won't have the offense they'll need to match wits with the Halos, as Seattle is hitting just .235 this month - the sixth lowest batting average in the bigs. They also rank dead last with just 65 runs this month.
None of that bodes well against an Angels team that ranks 9th in the league with 248 runs plated at home, and 12th overall 483 runs.
Again, do not list pitchers, and take the Angels over Seattle in this easy winner.

I'll take my chances here with Cleveland on the -1.5 run line in Sunday's matchup at Detroit.
