The Boston Red Sox should be bigger favorites at home today against the struggling Los Angeles Angels. The Angels are 0-5 in their last five games overall and have scored 2 or fewer runs in four of their last six. The Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six and have scored 9 or more runs four times.
Brian Johnson makes his second start of the season for the Red Sox. He has been great as a fill-in starter when they’ve needed him over the last few seasons. Johnson gave up just one run in 6 innings against the Marlins in his lone start the year.
Jamie Barria is struggling of late for the Angels. He is 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA and 1.643 WHIP in his last three starts. Now he faces perhaps his toughest task of the entire season against this potent Red Sox lineup at Fenway Park.
The Angels are 3-14 when playing against a team with a winning percentage of better than 62% this season. Los Angeles is 0-7 in its last seven road games vs. a left-handed starter. Boston is 54-26 in its last 80 games overall. The Red Sox are 6-0 in Johnson’s last six starts. Bet the Red Sox Thursday.

I like the value here with Detroit as a short home dog against the A's on Thursday. I know the Tigers come in having lost 8 straight, but should give it everything they have to avoid getting swept in this 4-game series at home against Oakland. As for the A's they already got the series locked up and with a big home series against the Indians on deck this weekend, they might be looking ahead to that flight home after the game.
The other big thing here is Detroit will send out Michael Fulmer, who has been throwing it much better of late. Fulmer is just 3-6 with a 4.17 ERA in 15 starts overall, but comes into this one with a 2.29 ERA and 0.915 WHIP in his last 3 starts. On top of that, he's 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA and 0.893 WHIP in 2 career starts against the A's. Take Detroit!

I'll take my chances here with Minnesota in Thursday's matchup at Chicago. The Twins have lost the first two games of the series and are going to be desperate for a win here to avoid getting swept. This is definitely a game they can and should win, as the White Sox will send out struggling starter Lucas Giolito, who comes in with an awful 7.01 ERA and 1.596 WHIP in 15 starts. For whatever reason, Giolito has been at his worse when he starts at home. Giolito has a 9.91 ERA and 1.872 WHIP in 8 home starts. He's also just 1-3 with a 8.51 ERA and 1.603 WHIP in 5 day starts. Look for Minnesota offense to put up a big number here and that should be enough to get the win behind starter Jake Odorizzi. Give me the Twins -129!

My money is on Cincinnati to stay hot and cash in a winning ticket at home against the Brewers on Thursday. The Reds have come out of nowhere to go 9-1 over their last 10 games. They are getting decent pitching during this run, but it's been the offense that has been the difference. Cincinnati has scored at least 4 runs in all 10 games and have hit at least 6 runs in 8 of the 10. I look for the offense to keep rolling here against Brewers' starter Junior Guerra, while Cincinnati starter Anthony Desclafani stays hot and keeps Milwaukee's offense in check. Bet the Reds -101!

Take Panama plus the +0.5 Goal-Line versus Tunisia. It might be tempting to take Tunisia (0-0-2) in this match given their fine showing in their first match of this tournament in their narrow 2-1 loss to England where they endured a heartbreaking second goal in the second-half stoppage time. But the Eagles of Carthage have not won a match in a World Cup in forty years. Tunisia is 0-4-9 in their last thirteen World Cup matches going back to 1978. And this team is loaded with injuries which severely impacted their defense in their 5-2 loss to Belgium on Saturday. Panama is looking for their first ever World Cup victory as debutantes in this tournament — so they will be playing this match with maximum effort. The Canal Men are an experienced and physical side that will be tougher in this match than they have appeared in this difficult group featuring England and Belgium. Not only did they face them last summer, they've already faced them twice so far this season! Chicago's Lucas Giolito is off of one of his better starts. However, he still allowed 4 earned runs in that outing and the White Sox right-hander has a 9.91 ERA at home this season! As for the Twins Jake Odorizzi, he has an ugly 9.25 ERA in his last 3 starts. Yesterday's game stayed under the total but the White Sox have averaged scoring 7.2 runs per game their last 5 games. Also, prior to that under, Chicago was 7-0 to the over in their 7 prior games. As for the Twins, they had averaged scoring 5 runs per game in their 4 road games prior to getting shut down last night. They'll bounce back against Giolioto but look for Odorizzi to also get rocked here. Minnesota has not recorded back to back unders in the past two weeks and I don't expect that trend to change here. Yesterday's game was a wild one that totaled 15 runs. We expect another one here. While the Mariners Mike Leake is off of a strong start, he is not a strikeout pitcher. In his 3 prior starts he had struck out a total of only 8 in 20 innings. The reason that is important here is because the Orioles are known for being an aggressive lineup at the plate and being free swingers. However, facing a non-strikeout pitcher generally means more contact for the O's and when Baltimore's hitters are making contact they certainly are quite dangerous. The Orioles have averaged 5.2 runs and 10 hits per game their last 5 home games. The over is 4-1 in the Orioles last 5 games versus a right-handed starter not named Max Scherzer (he shuts most everyone down). The Mariners enter this game having averaged scoring 5.5 runs per game their last 6 games. Seattle has been swinging the bats very well and they've averaged 10 hits per game their last 8 games. They'll take advantage of Orioles starter Jimmy Yacabonis. At the big league level, Yacabonis struggles with allowing too many walks. My free play is on the Mil Brewers at 7:10 ET. The 34-46 Cincinnati Reds are in last place in the NL Central, 12 1/2 games back of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. However, the Reds improved to 9-1 in their last 10 games by rallying for a 6-5 win at NL East-leading Atlanta on Wednesday, the team's their fifth come-from-behind victory in that span. The Reds welcome the Brewers to Cincinnati tonight, as the division rivals begin a four-games series. Milwaukee has lost three of four after splitting a two-game interleague series against Kansas City (enter having also lost six of its last 10 games) but the Brewers have won five straight in the series, including a three-game sweep at Cincinnati from April 30-May 2.
Taking the mound in tonight's series opener will be Milwaukee's Junior Guerra (3-5, 2.82 ERA), opposed by Cincy's Anthony DeSclafani (3-1, 4.09 ERA. Guerra did not factor in the decision against St. Louis on Friday, extending his winless drought to seven starts despite striking out seven and giving up just one run on three hits over five-plus innings. Guerra is 0-2 in his last seven starts, with Milwaukee going 3-4. Guerra is 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA against Cincinnati in five games (including four starts) in his career.
DeSclafani enters having won his last three starts, after holding the Cubs to two runs on three hits over a season-high 6 1/3 innings in his last outing, while also helping himself by belting a grand slam. He also gave up two runs on three hits in his previous start at Pittsburgh, with all four runs in the past two starts coming via solo homers. DeSclafani is 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA in five appearances (four starts) versus the Brewers.
Yes, the Reds are the hotter team but the Brewers are easily the better team and while Guerra's record doesn't show it, he enters this contest having gone eighth consecutive starts in which he has not allowed more than three runs (2.62 ERA in that span). Guerra blanked the Reds on one hit over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision back on April 17, a game the Brewers won 2-0. I'll take the first-place club over the last-place one.
