MLB | BAL vs TOR
Play on: OVER 9 -125

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach MLB Game #963 Wednesday Free Pick OVER the total in Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles @ 12:35 ET - At first glance at this match-up, one would be inclined to take the Blue Jays. Of course they are priced heavily on the money line but the monetary risk factor could be reduced by grabbing them on the run line and laying the 1.5 runs. Like I said, at first glance this appears to be the way to go because Baltimore has been absolutely dreadful this season and this has been particularly true on the road. However, even though the Orioles David Hess is likely to get pounded, I just can't see how one can trust Toronto's Thomas Pannone. That is why I am recommending the over in this early Wednesday match-up. Pannone has only made 4 appearances in what is his rookie season this year and all 4 of those outings were working out of the bullpen. Keep in mind, the Blue Jays southpaw had never even worked above the AA level of the minors until this season. So, how did it go for Pannone at the AAA level? The lefty went winless in 6 starts with a 4.91 ERA and he has been hit at a .290 clip overall this season at the minor league level. In other words, don't be surprised if the Orioles do some damage against him here. Baltimore's issue, as per usual, will be their own starting pitcher in this one. Hess is 2-7 with a 5.95 ERA this season. His most recent start, at Cleveland, stayed under the total but each of his 4 prior road starts all went over the total. This one should as well! Hess has an 8.54 ERA in his last 7 starts. More of the same early Wednesday at the Rogers Centre. Free Pick OVER the total in Toronto

MLB | PHI vs WAS
Play on: UNDER 8½ -110

Wednesday MLB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Philadelphia and Washington at 7:05 pm et on Wednesday.

I'll back the 'under' at Nationals Park on Wednesday night.

Zach Eflin will take the ball for the Phillies. He has worked at least into the sixth inning in four straight starts. Last time out he lasted 6 2/3 innings against a Mets club that has been hitting pretty well lately. Note that Eflin pitched here in Washington back on June 22nd, allowing two earned runs over five innings. The Nats' put up 10 runs in last night's victory but had plated just six runs combined in their previous two contests - both losses against Miami.

Stephen Strasburg will make his return to the Nats' rotation on Wednesday night. All indications are that he's ready to go after a 70-pitch simulated game. I don't believe they would rush Strasburg back - given his injury history - even though this is a crucial series. He has gone 10-2 with a 2.22 ERA in 21 career starts against the Phillies, so this may be an ideal spot to return. Note that the Phils have scored just seven runs over the course of their current three-game skid.

We saw a high-scoring affair between these two teams last night but I expect a different story to unfold on Wednesday night. The betting marketplace isn't sure what to expect from Strasburg and as a result we're dealing with a slightly inflated total in my opinion. Take the under (8*).

Free Play: Free Colorado w/Gray -240 Over San Diego
_______________________

Eric Schroeder

My free winner is going to be a blowout victory by the Colorado Rockies over the San Diego Padres.

IMPORTANT: As you know every single Run Line play and Total wager will automatically list the scheduled starting pitchers at the time of the wager, and I want you to be sure the following pitchers are the registered starters on your ticket when making your wager: Jacob Nix and Jon Gray. If one or both of these pitchers is not going, this is a no-play.

The Rockies will be pissed off after last night's loss, which means trouble for Nix. The rookie right-hander pitched six scoreless frames in his debut, but he allowed five runs and didn’t make it out of the first inning in his second start.

And while one might think Nix settles somewhere in between those two extremes, the problem is his third start is in Denver, where the ball flies out. This one could be trouble.

I'd rather count on Gray, who is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA, a .182 batting average against and an average of 13.8 pitches per inning in six starts since returning from a two-game tuneup at Triple-A.

This one is going to be over quickly. Take the Rockies in a rout.

5* ROCKIES RUN LINE (Gray over Nix)
_______________________

Jeff Benton

Your Wednesday freebie is the Rockies on the Run Line to bounce-back after losing their series opener at home to the Padres last night.

Colorado was feeling good after their 4-game sweep in Atlanta over the first-place Braves, but they could not carry that momentum over to their home opener last night versus the Friars, as they ended up on the wrong side of a 4-3 final score.

Things change tonight with Jon Gray on the hill. Gray has not picked up a decision in a while as he has worked his last 3 without garnering a decision. He sits at 9-7 on the season as he looks for that elusive 10th win tonight. His team is 3-0 in his last 3 starts, and the Rockies are on an overall 8-2 run their last 10 games.

Jacob Nix gets just his third start in the bigs, and with only 6-plus innings under his belt, and an alarming 5 runs allowed in his last start which lasted less an inning total, Coors Field looks like the wrong place for Nix to be working tonight.

Colorado back in a groove tonight as they post some big runs and walk away with this one easily.

4* COLORADO -1 1/2 RUNS

Jack Brayman

Taking a chance with the Detroit Tigers tonight, over the suddenly struggling Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs have lost three in a row, after Jordan Zimmermann pitched six effective innings, Victor Martinez had three hits and the Detroit Tigers beat the slumping Cubs 2-1 last night.

National League Central-leading Chicago was held to one run, from a solo home run for the fifth straight game, as it has dropped the last three during this offensive purge.

I'm not listing pitchers, because I don't care who goes and I want to guarantee the good price, but I will tell you I don't mind going against Jon Lester. The Cubs' southpaw struggled coming out of the All-Star break. And while he appeared to return to form his last time out, I'm still not convinced knowing he has a 7.98 ERA over his last three starts.

Take Detroit in this one.

2* TIGERS

Wednesday's comp play is the Cubs on the Run Line over the Tigers.

Detroit edged Chicago, 2-1 last night, but tonight I will side with the Cubbies bats to wake up and post enough to get the 2 runs or better win over Francisco Liriano and his mates.

Liriano was on the hill back on July 4th at Wrigley Field, in a game that Chicago won 5-2, and a similar result is what I expect this Wednesday.

Chicago's bats simply have to wake the F-up, as they have plated exactly one run a game over their last 5 games, losing each of their last 3. With the Cardinals in hot-pursuit, it's time for the Cubs to get something going tonight off of Liriano who sports a 6.94 ERA for his last 3 starts.

Jon Lester has been even worse, with an ERA approaching 8 for his last 3 starts, but he is 13-5 on the season, so chances he pulls himself out of his rut seem a little better to me than Liriano figuring it out first.

Cubs bats wake up tonight. Chicago by at least a pair.

2* CUBS -1 1/2 RUNS

MLB | Giants vs Mets
Play on: Mets -156 at betonline

The Mets are on a bit of a mini-run as they have won three of their last four games including a 6-3 victory last night in the second game of this four-game set. It has obviously been a rough season for New York after an 11-1 start had expectations through the roof, but a lack of offense has held them back. When the bats are hitting, New York is on the winning side as it is 14-2 when scoring six or more runs and they can improve upon that tonight. The Mets are 5-2 in their last seven home games against teams with a losing record. The Giants season is just about done as they have lost five of their last six games to fall three games under .500 and 8.5 games behind Arizona in the National League West. They are still within striking distance in the Wild Card race, but they need a lot of help and a lot of things to go their way. San Francisco is 3-7 in its last 10 road games against teams with a home winning percentage of less than .400. Casey Kelly gets the ball for the Giants and while he allowed just one run in his first starts, he only went 4.1 innings and gave up nine hits. With Dereck Rodriguez, Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija all on the disabled list, the Giants have no choice but to give him another turn. Noah Syndergaard has not been at his best since returning from the disabled list, but we know he still has electric stuff and he faces a Giants offense that has been one of the worst in baseball in August. The Mets are 4-0 in his last four starts against teams with a losing record while the Giants are 3-7 in their last 10 games against right-handed starters. Play (958) New York Mets

MLB | Braves vs Pirates
Play on: Braves -107 at betonline

Dave’s Wednesday Free Play:

1* on Atlanta Braves -107

The Key: The Pirates are really slumping right now. They have scored a total of 6 runs in their last 6 games and have been shut out 3 times. They have failed to score more than 4 runs in any o father last 10 games overall. Julio Teheran is a better starter on the road than he is at home. And Teheran is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in his last 3 starts against the Pirates, pitching 20 2/3 innings against them without allowing a single earned run. Teheran has a 2.89 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in his last 3 starts as well. The Braves are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record. The Pirates are 2-7 in their last 9 games overall. Take Atlanta.

MLB | Astros vs Mariners
Play on: Astros -156 at betonline

Astros

Cleveland is on its way to wrapping up the AL Central title in the next few weeks, but the Indians have bigger aspirations than a division championship. The Indians are proving their worth as a team that can take down the Red Sox in the American League as Cleveland has captured the first two games of its four-game set at Fenway Park. Following Monday’s comeback win, the Tribe jumped out to a 5-0 lead in last night’s 6-3 triumph in Beantown to pick up their seventh consecutive road victory.

Carlos Carrasco heads to the hill for Cleveland in the third game of this series, as the right-hander has yielded only one run in his past two starts. Since getting tagged for six runs in a road blowout loss to the Twins in early June, the Indians have won nine of Carrasco’s last 11 starts, including five consecutive wins away from Progressive Field.

Astros are 6-1 in Mortons last 7 starts during game 3 of a series. Mariners are 3-8 in their last 11 home games. Astros are 11-3 in the last 14 meetings in Seattle.

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Yankees/Marlins UNDER 7.5

The Yankees have a very suspect offense right now with all of their injuries. The Marlins have one of the worst offenses in baseball. I think we see an easy UNDER tonight in this matchup with the Yankees and Marlins similar to the 2-1 result in Game 1. Lance Lynn has gone 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA in four starts with the Yankees since being traded form the Twins. He is also 4-1 with a 3.75 ERA in eight previous appearances against the Marlins. I like what I’ve seen from Trevor Richards as well, especially at home. Richards is 2-3 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in eight home starts this year. The Yankees are 9-0 UNDER in interleague road games this season. The UNDER is 23-9-3 in Yankees last 35 road games. The UNDER is 6-1-2 in Marlins last nine home games. The UNDER is 5-1-1 in Richards’ last seven home starts. Give me the UNDER.

Soccer | New York Red Bulls vs New York City FC
Play on: Draw +270 at GTBets

This is a Free #MLS pick on the draw between NYRB@NYFC.

The Red Bulls are coming off a 2-2 draw versus Vancouver, and New York City played the White Caps earlier this month with the exact same result (a 2-2 draw). These two rivals have each gone 3-3-1 in the last seven head to head matches, and only one point separates them in the standings. NYFC has scored 48 goals this season, just one more than the Red Bulls. The only significant advantage we can see for either of these teams, is that the Red Bulls lead the MLS in goals against conceding just 25 goals in 24 matches. The visitors might be content to play for a draw here at Yankee Stadium tonight, and with the best defense in the MLS they appear to be capable of doing just that.

Take DRAW.

MLB | Cubs vs Tigers
Play on: Cubs -1½ -120 at 5Dimes

10* FREE MLB PICK (Cubs -1.5, -120)

I'll gladly take my chances here with Chicago's offense coming alive and the Cubs cashing in a win on the -1.5 run line at Detroit Wednesday. Chicago's offense has been non-existent of late, as they have now scored exactly 1 run in each of their last 4 games (somehow 2-2 in those 4 games). Knowing the offense needed a spark, the Cubs managed to acquire Daniel Murphy off Waivers and work out a deal with the Nationals. Murphy could play tonight, but either way I think his addition will light a fire under this offense. It also helps that they are facing the struggling Francisco Liriano, who couldn't even make it past the 2nd inning of his last start. Liriano has a mere 6.94 ERA and 2.142 WHIP in his last 3 starts and a 5.46 ERA and 1.564 WHIP in 6 home starts this season. Cubs will counter with veteran ace Jon Lester, who returned to form in his last start, giving up just 5 hits over 6 shutout innings at Pittsburgh. Give me Chicago -1.5, -120!

#MLB FREE PICK FROM MIKE LUNDIN

The Oakland Athletics have won eight of their last 10 and outscored Texas Rangers 15-0 through the first two games of this series. They're now tied with Houston at the top of the AL West so no doubt very motivated to keep it rolling here Wednesday afternoon.

Oakland hands the ball to Edwin Jackson (4-2, 2.58 ERA) who has allowed just two runs through his last four starts. He was knocked around for five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings at Texas on July 25, but Oakland still won the game 6-5.

Texas turns to Mike Minor (9-6, 4.61 ERA) who gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings in the Bronx his last time out and owns a 6.48 ERA in 10 road starts this season.

Rangers are 0-4 in their last 4 road games. Athletics are 21-5 in their last 26 home games.
