The Detroit Tigers have been one of the more underrated teams in baseball this season. They are up against a Toronto Blue Jays team that has lost four straight, including a 5-2 loss to the Tigers in Game 1 of this series yesterday.
Speaking of underrated, Detroit starter Matt Boyd is not getting the respect he deserves from oddsmakers. Boyd has posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.070 WHIP in 10 starts this season. He has been at his best at home, going 3-1 with a 1.84 ERA and 0.955 WHIP in five starts.
J.A. Happ is 7-3 with a 3.84 ERA and 1.112 WHIP in 11 starts this season. While solid, he still hasn’t been as good as Boyd, yet is getting treated with way more respect from the books. In his last start at Detroit, Happ allowed 6 earned runs in 5 innings.
Detroit is 10-3 (+11.9 units) in home games vs. an AL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.300 or better this season. The Blue Jays are 7-24 in Saturday road games over the last three seasons. Toronto is 7-19 in its last 26 games overall. The Blue Jays are 0-7 in their last seven Saturday games. The Tigers are 4-0 in Boyd’s last four home starts. Detroit is 6-1 in its last seven home games vs. a left-handed starter. Bet the Tigers Saturday.

Arizona exploded for a 9-1 win yesterday, but we think that we’ll see much more of a “pitchers duel” on Saturday night. Caleb Smith (4-5, 3.51 ERA) most recently gave up one run off four hits with four strikeouts over seven innings in a victory over the Padres on Monday. Smith was terrible in April, but the flame-thrower has clearly turned the corner after posting a 2.60 ERA and 1.05 WHIP to go along with 28 strikeouts over 27.2 innings in the month of May. The home side goes with Zack Greinke (3-4, 3.65) who gave up two earned runs off six hits while striking out five over six innings in an unfortunate loss to the A’s on Sunday. Greinke has been as solid as the D-Backs could possibly hope for this season as to go along with his respectable ERA, he also sports an elite 1.04 WHIP and 72:10 K:BB over 66.2 innings. And note that Greinke has been at his absolute best at home this year by going 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA to this point. Consider the UNDER in this one.

My 1* Free Play is on the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Arizona crushed the Marlins 9-1 yesterday (I had the Diamondbacks in that one!) and in my opinion, everything points to another rout here as well.
The visitors turn to Caleb Smith (4-5, 3.51 ERA), who most recently gave up one run off four hits with one walk with four K’s over seven frames in a win over the Friars on Monday. Smith had a disastrous April, but a superb May. He’s been solid across the board, but I still think he’s in over his head tonight.
The home side counters with Zack Greinke (3-4, 3.65) who comes in off an unfortunate no-decision against the A’s on Sunday, allowing two runs off six hits over six innings while striking out five.
Greinke’s ERA is respectable, but his 1.04 WHIP and 72/10 K/W have to be considered elite.
Also note that Greinke has been particularly dominant at home this season by going 2-0 with a tiny 1.69 ERA.
Additionally I’ll point out that Miami is already a poor 2-6 (-1.6 units) this year as a road dog in the +175 to +250 range, while Arizona is a stellar 17-8 (+2.3 units) in its last 25 as a home fav in the -175 to -250 range.
I like Greinke to easily out duel his counterpart and for the hard-hitting Diamondbacks to do the rest. Consider Arizona on Saturday night.

Late night this Saturday, look for a pair of hot-hurlers to tame the hitters at Safeco Field as Chris Archer and Marco Gonzales continue to be tough to score on.
Archer heads into this start with a 0.48 ERA for his last 3 trips to the bump, and 2 of those 3 starts have indeed held Under the total.
Gonzales has not allowed an earned run (2 unearned runs is all) over his last 3 starts, a span that has lasted 19-plus innings. All 3 of those starts, and 4 in a row overall have held Under the total.
With last night's series opener landing Under, the Rays are now 9-3-1 Under the total over their last 13 games played, while the Under for the Mariners has moved to 10-2 Under in their last dozen games contested.
As you can see, both teams have been struggling to muster the runs lately. With a pair of hurlers who have been throwing peas, have to expect the dominant Under trends these teams have run up to continue on Saturday night in King County.

Marc-Andre Fleury and Braden Holtby had been absolute walls heading in this series, but in Game One it looked as if the teams were playing with no one between the pipes, as we saw a combined 10 goals scored and the Over players cashed in a big way.
That was not the case in Game Two, as we saw half of the combined goals tallied in Washington's 3-2 win as we returned to the norm with Fleury and Holtby stepping up their games once again.
I will look for Game Three to feature no more than 5 goals tonight, as Fleury and Holtby should now be locked in for the long haul and the goals will get tougher to come by.
