Play on: Padres -135

Play - San Diego Padres w/Lyles vs Chen (Game 960).

Edges - Padres: Lyles 0.73 ERA with 0.65 WHIP home as opposed to 7.83 ERA with 1.93 WHIP away this season … Marlins: Chen 0-3 with 10.95 ERA and 1.91 WHIP away as opposed to 2-1 wit 1.06 ERA and 1.00 WHIP at home this season … With Chen 0-5 his last five away team starts in May, and Miami 0-5 on Thursdays this season, we recommend a 1* play on San Diego. Thank you and good luck as always.

MLB | Rangers vs Mariners
Play on: Mariners -145

My 1* Free Play is on the Seattle Mariners (10:10 EST).

I think the Mariners will bounce back after yesterday’s 7-6 defeat.

The visitors hand the ball to the volatile Mike Minor (4-3, 5.63 ERA) who picked up a win on Friday over the Royals despite allowing four runs off seven hits over six innings. Note that Minor has now served up eight long-balls over his last five outings, including two in his latest start.

Minor has gotten plenty of support from the Rangers’ big bats, but note that he’s still just 1-1 with a ballooned 8.38 ERA on the road.

The home side counters with Wade LeBlanc (0-0, 2.70) who comes in off an unfortunate no-decision against the Twins on Saturday, conceding two runs with four K’s over six innings of work. So far the M’s veteran has allowed just five runs over 26.1 innings of work spanning five starts, while also posting a very respectable 19/4 K/W. And note, to go along with his sharp ERA, LeBlanc also sports an elite 1.10 WHIP.

I’ll point out as well that Texas is already a horrible 6-11 (-2.8 units) this year against southpaws, while Seattle is 10-7 (+1.3 units) in the same position.

For all the reasons listed above, consider a second look at Seattle on Thursday night.

Good luck…Larry

MLB | Indians vs Twins
Play on: Indians -112

Thursday MLB Free play. My selection is on Cleveland over Minnesota at 8:10 pm et on Thursday.

The Indians are rolling again, winners of five in a row since turning things around after a rocky start against the Astros last weekend. They have the opportunity to really feast on a relatively weak A.L. Central this week, having already swept the White Sox. Look for their roll to continue in Minnesota on Thursday.

Shane Bieber will get his first career big league start for the Tribe. He is 5-1 with a ridiculous 1.10 ERA and 0.70 WHIP in 10 starts between AA and AAA this season. Bieber catches a break facing a Twins club that isn't scoring with much consistency (even though they did put up eight runs in a couple of games in Kansas City).

Jake Odorizzi will counter for Minnesota. He has pitched reasonably well this season - as well as the Twins could have expected, in fact. However, Minnesota has only managed to win three of his last eight starts and in two starts against the Indians since the start of last season, Odorizzi has been roughed up for 13 hits and eight earned runs in 11 innings of work.

We're working with a short price here largely due to the unknown of Shane Bieber making his first career start for Cleveland. I'll back the superior club in the opener of this series. Take Cleveland (8*).

MLB | Red Sox vs Astros
Play on: Red Sox +185

Red Sox/Astros 8:10: Worth a shot with Boston here. Pomeranz is overdue for a good outing. He's a quality pitcher who's underachieved this season. Sox are 11-5 on the road with Pomeranz. Boston's lineup has been money on the road vs righty starters at 20-6. We'll look for them to get the best of McCullers Jr. who is coming off getting lit up by Cleveland. McCullers has come up empty in Game 1 of a series at 0-5 and against the ALE at 0-6. Boston the call.

DMack's Free Play for Thursday, May 31, 2018 is on the NY Yankees (Sonny Gray listed)

The orioles are a trainwreck. They are 4-11 L15, 17-38 for the year, and it won't be long before their key pieces including Machado are dealt before the trade deadline. The Yankees are 17-4 L21 and have just been finding ways to win. The pitching edge would look to go the O's Andrew Cashner who beat the Bombers on April 3rd but that was before the Bronx found it's mojo and the Birds hit the skids. Lay it with the Yankees.

NBA | Cavs vs Warriors
Play on: Cavs +12½ -105

This is a 1* Free Play on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

History is not on LeBron James’ side against the Warriors. GS took both regular season meetings between the clubs, but it’s important to note though that each was before Cleveland overhauled its line-up at the trade deadline. This isn’t a matchup that suits the Cavs, as the Warriors perimeter offense has gotten the better of The King in two of the last three NBA Finals. But the Warriors look more susceptible than they ever have after needing seven games to get by the Houston Rockets (and they likely would have lost if Chris Paul had suited up.) Houston has laid the blue-print on how to slow down the Warriors and we think that Tyrone Lue will have his role players ready to duplicate its performance. Also note that the Cavs are 12-6 ATS in their last 18 after allowing 85 points or less in their previous contest, while the Warriors are just 6-11 ATS this year when playing with two days of rest. Consider CLEVELAND in Game 1.

Thu MLB Free Pick

LA Angels vs. Detroit, 05/31/2018 13:10 EDT

Total: -105/+9½ Over

MIT Thursday MLB Free Pick: OVER 9.5 runs in Detroit - Entering Wednesday's action, Tigers games against teams with a winning record had an O/U of 11-5 this season. Also, as a home dog of +175 or more, Detroit had an O/U of 6-3 their last 9. Regardless of the final Wednesday outcome, those are strong angles and the pitching match-up here also favors the over. The Angels Andrew Heaney is having issues with command and has walked 8 in his last two starts. The Tigers Ryan Carpenter has struggled in limited action at the MLB level but even more concerning for him is that he has a 5.27 ERA at the AAA level in his minor league career. Both starters get into trouble early and often in what should be a high-scoring early game Thursday. MIT Free Pick: OVER 9.5 runs in Detroit

Thursday night comp play winner is the Yankees and Orioles to put some runs on the scoreboard at Camden Yards with Sonny "50 Runs of" Gray on the hill against Andrew Cashner.

These teams have already posted Overs in 3 of their first 4 meetings this year, including Gray's lone start versus the O's that saw the Yankees take it 8-3.

Both Gray and Cashner have had major issues this year in keeping crooked digits off of the scoreboard when they take the mound. Gray sports a sky-high 5.98 season ERA, and the Over stands at 7-2-1 when it's his turn to throw the pearl. As for Cashner, the Over has cashed just three times in his 11 season starts, but his ERA is over 5.

The Yankees are on a 7-3-1 Over clip their last 11 games played, and the Over in the series is a dominant 23-3 the last 26 times these division rivals have played one another.

Look for the ball to be flying around the yard tonight, and look for the runs to add up to an Over.

4* N.Y. YANKEES-BALTIMORE OVER
