Jimmy Moore Guaranteed Selections

Detroit - Phoenix UNDER 5

In game 1 of this series there were 5 goals scored, 4 of them were power play goals with all 3 of the Coyotes goals coming with the man advantage. Phoenix probably won't score 3 more power play goals in the rest of this series and you know the Wings will be better on the PK. Also Detroit will struggle to score with the Coyotes playing as good a defense as they are and there is no way Bryzgolav will allow a bad goal like he did in game 1. Everything points to a 2-1 or 1-0 game in this one.

Jack Clayton Guaranteed Selections

5* White Sox

The White Sox got their offense rolling this week, despite a 7-3 loss yesterday. The previous night Carlos Quentin drove in a career-high six runs, highlighted by a grand slam in the top of the fifth, in an 11-1 rout. This offense will have no trouble hitting in Cleveland's small stadium, especially against Mitch Talbot and his 7.20 ERA. His problems are youth and control, walking 5 batters in 5 innings, as well as 6 hits allowed. meanwhile, the White Sox have no such worries with ace lefty Mark Buehrle, who is 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA. He's already faced the punchless Cleveland lineup this season, firing a 3-hitter with no runs in 7 innings. Play the White Sox.

MR EAST

MLB FRIDAY PLAY OF THE DAY

CINCINNATI @ PITTSBURGH
3 UNITS: OVER 8.5

Pirate offense has produced a lot better at home, and despite 6 of their first 9 on the road, the Pirates are still plating 4.33 runs a game. The problem has been on the mound, where the starters and pen have been horrible, allowing 65 runs therough 9 games, or 7.2 a contest. Reds have played up and over as a road dog to the tune of an 8-2 over mark in their last 10, Duke has been 7-0 to the over in his last 7 starts, and also 5-2-1 to the over in his last 8 vs the Reds. I'll back the over n this one.

8* Atlanta / Colorado Over 8.5

After a warm afternoon with a high temperature in the mid-eighties, look for the ball to be carrying very well tonight in Atlanta. The “magic number” for us here is 4 runs. With a total of just 8.5 on this game, we merely need 4 runs from each team to guarantee us at least a 5-4 final – the game can’t end 4-4 of course! How likely is that? Well, we’re looking for a huge bounce back from the Rockies here. They were shutout at home yesterday and that’s something that didn’t happen to them the entire 2009 season – Colorado was never shutout at home. Prior to yesterday’s ugly home loss, the Rockies had scored at least four runs in each of their first eight games this season. Colorado should get us at least four runs here. As for Atlanta, they have been an “over team” so far this season. The Braves have played nine games and only two of them have stayed under the total. Atlanta has scored six runs in each of their last two games and we look for their surge at the plate to continue as they now return home and face a pitcher they hammered last season.

The Rockies Jason Hammel was rocked by the Braves last season to the tune of an 8.32 ERA and a .432 BAA. Even though Hammel’s first start this season was respectable (4 earned runs on just 6 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings of work), it came against a Padres team that is again struggling to score runs this season. As for the Braves, their overall numbers on offense are not yet impressive this season either but they pounded Hammel last season plus the Braves have extra confidence from scoring six runs in each of their last two games against the Padres to close out their series in San Diego with back to back wins. The Braves have not stayed under in any of their last six games (4-0-2 to the over) and although Derek Lowe has an impressive ERA so far this season, there are definitely some concerns about his current form. In his first two starts, Lowe has walked 10 while striking out just six and the ten free passes have come in just 12 innings of work. Even though Lowe was 15-10 last season, he did have a 4.67 ERA and he got hit at a .301 clip on the season. Even at Turner Field he had a 1.56 WHIP and a .296 BAA. It’s hard to trust him against a Rockies team that is hungry off of a shutout loss. Yes we are aware of the long-term stats that suggest another under will follow a Rockies shutout. However, we don’t see it that way! Not only have the Braves not stayed under in any of their last six games, the Rockies have not stayed under in any of their three road games this season. The Braves bullpen has had its share of struggles already this season and that’s reflected in the relievers 4.85 ERA on the season. While the Rockies bullpen ERA is much lower, Colorado’s relievers have been hit at a .250 clip and the Rockies have used seven innings of bullpen work the last two days. Play OVER the total in Atlanta as an *8* Regular Play selection.
