8* OAKLAND ATHLETICS -150

For a number of different reasons I believe the value in this contest is on the home side:

Kevin Millwood is coming of a 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays; he allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits over 7 2/3's innings.

Millwood has pitched well this year; but remember, last season he went 5-7 with a 4.15 ERA on the road and is going to be in trouble against the hot hitting A's.

In the other dugout: Dallas Braden dominated in his first start, striking out 10 batters but received a no decision.

He was quite as effective in his second outing, but came away with the victory; he allowed three runs on five hits in six innings; one walk and two K's.

Braden was particularly effective at home last year; 6-4 with a 3.69 ERA.

Bottom line: Oakland has been dominant at home to start the year and I believe they'll once again lay a beat down tonight; Oakland is the leader in the AL West after finishing last in 2009.

“It’s a great way to start to start the season,” Braden said. “We feel we can compete with anybody. If we can continue to do what we’ve done so far, which is win the series, we’ll be OK.”

Baltimore is off to its worst start after yesterday's 6-2 loss in the opener of this series; it's been outscored 39-15 during the seven-game road skid to the A's.

Both pitchers have had success against the other team; however I believe that the hard hitting A's will continue to roll for the time being; play on OAKLAND!

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES -1.5 -130

The Phillies, even without Rollins in the lineup, will generate runs throughout the course of a game. Unlike last night's game, where the bullpen imploded, I expect Halladay to go the distance again and pitch yet another gem. Halladay is the best pitcher in the league today. Until he slips up (which may be never), why not ride him out? The Phillies will give him great run support and should win this game at home with ease.

ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS -115

Neither pitcher has been impressive so far, Jackson toes the rubber for Arizona and a totally unimpressive Jon Garland hits the mound for the Padres. It is the OFFENSE in this one you have to look at and with Garland having a 1.80 WHIP and over a 5 ERA here, it is the bats of the D-Backs that make the huge difference here at a cheap number. Yes, Arizona is a bad road team, and yes their starter is not much better but they are batting .315 as a team against right handers, and with equal bullpens, I do not think the offense depleted Pads can keep pace with them. Play 1 Unit on Arizona tonight.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS +105

The Angels are struggling as they have opened the season with only three wins in their first 10 games. After losing two of three to the Yankees the Angels travel north of the border to take on the surging Blue Jays who are just the opposite of the Angels, winners of 7 of their first 10 contests. The Angels aren’t hitting the baseball as they come into this game with a .260 batting average and scoring only 3.6 runs per game. The Jays haven’t exactly torn the cover off the baseball either as they are hitting only .232 on the season. However, Toronto is getting great pitching as they are allowing opposing batters to hit only .219 against them. Combine that starting pitching with a bullpen that has converted 75% of their save opportunities and you have the makings of winning a lot of games. The Angels send out Weaver, who’s been tough against the Jays, but we think the Angels are in a tough spot tonight coming off that series with the Yankees and having to travel to Toronto. Marcum has pitched well against the Angels and we look for the Jay’s pitching to continue to be strong. Play on Toronto.

3 UNITS: CHICAGO WHITE SOX -140

Cleveland has struggled hitting this season, and their struggles continued yesterday despite getting the win. The Indians were only able to muster three runs, all coming on a home run by Shin-Soo Choo. White Sox starter Mark Buehrle has dominated the Indians in his recent starts against them. He is also pitching very well this season. The Indians are also really having problems against lefties. Chicago, while also not hitting very well this season, gets to face righty Mitch Talbot from Cleveland. He allowed 6 hits and 5 walks in his first start of the season, and I expect Chicago to hit him hard enough to get the win.
