Kansas City Chiefs at Minnesaota Vikings
Play: Kansas City Chiefs
The Vikings host the Chiefs in NFL pre-season play at the Metrodome in Minneapolis Friday night with both teams coming in of disparate results last week. That sets the table for tonight's play as pre-season home teams that are either favored or a 'pick' off off a SU road win are just 10-32 ATS when hosting an opponent off a SU home favorite loss since 1983. When the home team is off a win of 4 or more points and the foe is off a loss of more than 1-point in which they scored less than 17 points these hosts dip to 1-19 ATS in this role. With the Brett Farve-buzz the main focus in Minnesota this week, look for the Chiefs to pick up their first win under new head coach Todd Haley here tonight.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS -2.5 vs. KANSAS CITY
No the addition of Brett Favre is not the main reason I like them today. I like them because they have a very deep defense and Kansas City is already having problems with their 60 million dollar QB who they are already talking of benching. Their best WR is also causing problems.
The addition of Favre does mean we have some QB depth as well as all 3 QBs for the Vikes have great starting experience and plus there will be some excitement in the Dome tonight so look for an easy Minny win

We are going with the Cowboys here who open up their new stadium tonight. You better believe that emotions for the Cowboys will be riding a little higher than they normally would be for a pre-season game. Add that into their 9-0-1 SU and 7-3 ATS reord since 2004 as the home team in the preseason.Kerry Collins did not look sharp last week as he threw two picks while Vince Young looked very good going 9-14 for 131 and a TD. Patrick Ramsey is also expected to get some action, but I'll still take the Cowboys with Romo expected to see more time than last week where he was in for only two possessions which led to 1 TD drive and a 7-3 lead. However, the Cowboys went on to loose 31-10. Backup Jon Kitna will relieve Romo and the two rookies should see action late. Titans who are 2-0 SU and ATS are not expected to go 3-0 here and I don't think they'll match the excitement in the Cowboys new stadium.

As was the case yesterday, we've got great value on a high line here with two pitchers that are more than capable of shutting down their opposing offenses. Nick Blackburn (8-8, 4.29) and Luke Hochevar (6-6, 5.73) both possess ace-like stuff and while both have struggled in the dog days of summer, I'm expecting them both to be on top of their games tonight. How easily we forget that from April to late June, these two AL Central studs were two of the best pitchers in baseball in terms of runs allowed. I'm not usually one to dwell on the past, but when I see people saying this game is going to go over because the two pitchers' ERAs combine for over 9.5 runs, that's just terrible. I discount that garbage with the truth -- they can both flat out deal. Not to mention, it's not like either is facing a powerful offense.
Minnesota is still without slugger Justin Morneau, which means less protection for Joe Mauer, and Jason Kubel's front knee is still banged up. And everybody knows Kansas City's offense has been the laughingstock of the American League as the power numbers have hit rock bottom, what with Billy Butler (65) the only Royal that has more than 60 RBIs. Kansas City isn't the type of team that's going to beat you by lighting up the scoreboard. They try and play small ball and manufacture runs, something that is always a great intangible for an under play. Speaking of intangibles, how's this for a fast fact: 27 of the last 43 games in this series have gone UNDER the posted total, including 14 of 21 at Kaufmann Stadium. In fact, all three games in Kansas City this season have sailed under the total. These two pitchers faced off back on June 29 and Blackburn threw six innings of two-run baseball only to be outdone by Hochevar, who blanked the Twinkies over seven innings. The final score was 4-2.
