Ravens -3 over Jets
Marc Sanchez will make his first NFL start today against a Ravens Defense that was created by his head coach Rex Ryan. If Ryan had a Veteran QB he could really help with picking apart weaknesses in Baltimore's complex defense, but there is no way Sanchez is going to be able to adjust to the Ravens speed especially with his offensive line banged up and not together for tonight's start. The Ravens have the better QB play and have yet to give up a point this preseason. I think they will really break this game open in the second half with Troy Smith under center. Smith is a veteran QB who has improved tremendously this offseason. The Jets second and third units were beaten by the Rams last weekend. The Ravens depth is much better than that. Ray Lewis will have his guys fired up at home on Monday Night regardless of this being just a preseason game. Take the Ravens.

1* Jets +3

One of our favorite preseason handicapping angles happens to be teams with position battles, and particularly Quarterback battles. With Mark Sanchez getting the start in this game and following him will be the other candidate Kellen Clemens. Ryan would like to name a starter after this game by Wednesday; so this is a huge game for both QB's. Sanchez edged Clemens in week one but training camp both we're pretty even so this a pivotal game for the two. So we can expect 100% from both guys in this game.

Ryan said this will be a physical game with a regular season feel to it and will be more uptempo than your normal preseason game. We can expect the Jets to not back down to his former team in this game He said this is an attitude game because Baltimore is a physical football team. That is the style of play he wants his team to take after and that’s why he believes his team is going to come out and play physical on Monday Night.

Rex Ryan said he wants go after the Ravens QB's as much as possible, after Flacco is done we will see former Ohio State QB Troy Smith who passed under 50% last week and John Beck who is nothing more than a 3rd string NFL QB at best after being a 2nd round bust for the Dolphins. So once Flacco is done the Jets should have some success against Smith and Beck. That's where this game should start to take a turn in the Jets favor. They may find themselves trailing at halftime but the second half things should turn around. Not too many coaches in the NFL know Flacco and Smith better then Ryan himself and he will sure have his defense prepared eventhough he said he's done no game planning; Rex is probably down playing that question. Also Regardless of all the media spotlight on Ryans quotes this week verbally sparring with the Ravens,he and Harbaugh remain close friends and we don't see Jim running the score up in the first half of a preseason game against his buddy Rex in his first visit back to Baltimore.

Something good for the Jets Quarterbacks is that defensively the Ravens are very similar to what they have been practicing against the past few weeks; since the Ravens are running the same system that Rex ran their last year with minor "tweaks". The Jets had only 2 starting offensive linemen last week and now get a boost with Center Nick Mangold back but still will be without LG and RT Alan Faneca and Damian Woody.

The Ravens starters will play most of the first half with veterans like Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, and Trevor Price being on a snap count. We're not sure how sserious Harbaugh takes these preseason games, last year he won his first game against New England and the team went on to lose their final three preseason games both straight up and against the spread.

This game means a lot more to one of the best "players coach" in the league with Rex Ryan; and we are sure to see his team motivated to play on Monday Night against their coaches old organization. The Jets will be hungry to get their first win in the Ryan era Monday Night.

Tigers at Angels
Pick: Tigers +116
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
It looked like Justin Verlander was going to repeat his '08 debacle, when he struggled the entire season, after 4 starts in '09 his ERA was at 9. He has been brilliant since, and has made 22 starts allowing 1 run or less in half of them, and 3 runs or less in 18 of the 22. Jerod Weaver was sailing along with a 2.08 ERA in mid June, but the wheels have fallen off since. Weaver has pitched to a 6.18 ERA in his last 12 starts, and the Angels have been outhitting his mistakes. Tigers are now 40-17 in Verlander's last 57 starts on 4 days rest, and I'll back Detroit in this one.

Starting Time: 8:40 TV: Comcast Sports Network San Francisco Bay Area, Fox Sports Rocky Mountains Comments: It has been lost on most that Giants lefty Barry Zito has an E.R.A. of 2.36 since the All-Star break, which is better than the team’s two aces—Tim Lincecum (2.65) and Matt Cain 2.53). The figures say Zito is at the top of his form and is ready to pitch his best game of the season and that should be enough for the Giants to get the job done in the pitchers’ duel of the day.

INDIAN COWBOY

6 Unit Play. Take Cleveland Indians -105 over Kansas City Royals

Sowers has done very well of late as the lefty has put together 4 of 5 quality starts. Although he has not been able to improve in the "W" column much, his starts have been of quality. He has fallen short to the Rangers 1-4 and to the Angels 0-3 as they were tough luck losses. He has yet to face the Royals and I believe that will give an edge in the early going against the Royals. Bear in mind that the young man went to Chicago recently and pitched 7 innings and defeated the Whitesox 6-2 and also went to Seattle and went 7 innings and pitched a shutout there as well picking up two easy victories for the Indians. Meche has won his last 2 games but has struggled a bit as he has gone a total of 10 innings and given up 15 hits on 8 runs. This is also a bit of a revenge game for Cleveland as well as Meche went 7 innings and didn't yield a run to Cleveland in his last start on June 10th. I don't expect Cleveland to be blanked like that in this start. The Indians are 12-5 when they face a pitcher with a WHIP greater than 1.15 and the Royals are 1-7 in Meche's last 8 home starts.

1 Unit Play. Take Over 32.5 between the New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens

Although many expect this game to be low scoring, I don't believe so. I think both offenses have the spurt to score here - mainly the Ravens. Remember, the Ravens continue to have success with Flacco as they put up 23 points against the Ravens. Plus, Troy Smith passed for 200 yards in the last game. Similar to the Titans, both quarterbacks having success yields more points. The Jets have some uncertainty with the quarterback rotation as well which I believe the increased competition will yield to more points - primarily between Erik Ainge and Mark Sanchez. I look for the Ravens to put up at least 24 in this effort while the Jets tack on a about two scores. I have this game closing between 37 and 38 points.

3 Unit Play. Take Los Angeles Angels –125 over Detroit

Jered Weaver is on fire and is pitching the best season of his four-year career. Weaver’s record is an impressive 13-4 with a shutout performance in his last start and tonight we should see the same outing against Detroit at home. Tigers are just 4-10 in Anaheim since the start of the 2006 season. The Angels are 5-1 following a SU loss. Detroit is 8-22 in their last 30 road games.

3 Unit Pick Take Kansas City (-105) over Cleveland

The oddsmaker opened this line at Kansas City as a (-1.15) favorite and the early action has come in on the Indians pushing this line down. The Indians send Jeremy Sowers to the mound, Sowers tends to walk a lot and has shown that can pitch at times but hasn’t been consistent enough to be a starter at this level. Indians starter Gil Meche is making his third start of the disabled list tonight and while he wasn’t sharp in his first two start’s he did win both. Meche has been sharp vs. the Indians in three start’s with a 2:21 era and in his last start vs. Cleveland struckout eleven in seven scoreless innings. I think the light hitting Royals can hit Sowers and I think Meche will be sharper tonight then he has in his last two starts.
