After a weird game yesterday that saw 16 runs I think that both teams come back down for a slow rubber match. Cliff Lee has just been dominating the National League and gives the Phillies a huge advantage. Against this weak Mets lineup I don't see him giving up more than a run or two. Philly hasn't been scoring a lot away from home and I think that they just take care of business today with a solid 5-1 win.

I like how Oakland looked over the weekend and I think that they jump all over Seattle today. The Mariners are back from their road trip and Oakland did not have to travel very far to this one. Ian Snell has not been good since coming to the American League and the A's should jump all over him early today. Seattle is fading fast and the A's are playing as well as they have all season.

Despite their struggles, the Tigers still have a 2 ½ -game lead over Chicago in the AL Central. They head south from Oakland to continue their six-game road trip. After losing two of three at Oakland, they now have lost 10 consecutive road series. We don’t expect that to change as the Angels have beaten the Tigers 27 of the last 35 home games.

It’s a good pitching matchup as Jered Weaver faces Justin Verlander. The Angels are 8-1 in Weaver’s last nine starts. Meanwhile, the Tigers have failed to give Verlander run support in his last three starts. They are averaging just 2.4 runs for him. Mgr. Mike Scioscia has put his teams bad performance in Toronto this past weekend behind him. He is pushing them to be more consistent.

The Colorado Rockies have put together one of the longest and quietest positive runs in baseball this season. For what has amounted to a half-season of games, (their last 70 played), the Rockies have been the top team in baseball with a 48-22 mark! The Giants have surprised as well, behind their two ace pitchers in Lincecum and Cain, and a home record that is 39-20. That has kept them in the race all season, but the difference between this team is home and away. At home, they are stellar, winning 66.1% of their games. On the road, they are lacking, finding the win column in just 43.1% of their games. That differential is huge - 23% on the negative side. Barry Zito has not paid the kind of dividends for the Giants they had hoped for since coming over as a free agent from the A's. This season he has a 5.13 ERA against winning teams when pitching on the road. The Giants are just 32-65 on the road in their last 97 against a team with a winning record. The Rockies are torching lefthand pitching at home as they are 10-1 in their last 11. The Giants are just 1-4 in their last five played here, so the Rockies get the call.

The Kansas City Royals continue to struggle, having lost 4 games in a row and 5 of their last 6 overall. KC is now just 25-39 at home this season where they are scoring just 4.5 runs per game. This is a lineup that also struggles against left-handed starters, going 15-31 this year when facing a lefty starter. By comparison, the Cleveland Indians score about 5.6 runs per game on the road, and while their pitch has struggled, their offense makes them a very good candidate to beat the Royals tonight. To top it off, Royals' starter, Gil Meche has been a mess this season, going just 1-5 in 9 home starts with a 5.73 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. He's also carrying a 9.22 ERA and 2.27 WHIP over his last 3 appearances. The Indians' bats should get the job done on Monday.
