These teams' have experienced "under" trends recently, with NY at 2-7-1 O/U over their last 10 games; over the same stretch, TB sports a 2-8 O/U mark. And both of tonight's starters should be in good form: Burnett sports an impressive 1.93 ERA over his last 7 outings; he controls a 3.21 ERA vs TB; Burnett is 0-6 O/U over his last 6 starts. Shields, on the other hand, has struggled recently, but should be back in control at home where he is comfortable (3.09 ERA). Shields is 2-6 O/U in his last 8 home starts and sports a 1-8-1 O/U mark vs the American League East. In three starts vs NY last year, Shields controlled a 1.77 ERA. And both of the bullpens are currently in good form with ERAs around 2 this month. "Under" the call.

15* on Texas Rangers -145
The Rangers have one of the best home field advantages in the majors this year. They are 32-19 at home, where they score 5.4 runs per game and hit .271 as a team, more than 20 points better and a full run better than they hit on the road. I also like young starter, Tommy Hunter, who is 2-1 in 5 starts for the Rangers with a 2.17 ERA and a 2.17 WHIP. Hunter will be matched by Armando Galarraga tonight, and while Galarraga has pitched well in his last three starts, the Tigers are 0-3 in those starts and just 8-11 in his 19 starts overall this season.

15* on Tigers/Rangers UNDER 9.5
Take the under here with both teams struggling to get runs across the plate. The Rangers have been good at home this year, but have averaged just 4.3 runs per game over the last week. Detroit's offense has been even worse. The Tigers are hitting .246 as a team while averaging only 3.6 runs per game in their last 7 overall. The Under is 60-36 in all Detroit games this year and 60-33 in all Texas games this year. It's safe to say that the books are setting the total too high for both of these teams this season.

15* on White Sox +100
You can't argue with results that John Danks has been getting for the White Sox on the road this year. He is now 5-2 on the season as the visiting starter despite a 4.44 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. Danks has been sharp in his last 3 starts, going 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. Glen Perkins, on the other hand, has been a wreck for the Twins. His last 3 starts have been terrible, where Perkins is 1-2 with a 13.94 ERA and 2.61 WHIP. Both starters are lefties, and the Twins are just 15-19 against left-handed starters this year, while the Sox come into tonight's game at 19-10 against southpaws.

20* No Doubt Rout on Philadelphia Phillies -112
Jump on the Phillies at this price as they are one of the hottest teams in all of baseball. They have won 5 of their last 7 and have averaged .292 as a team and are scoring 7.4 runs per game over that stretch. Arizona has been fairly hot themselves, but they are just 9-18 this year against left-handed starters, scoring just 3.7 runs per game and batting .235 as a team. Looking at the season numbers the pitching match up is fairly even with Jamie Moyer having a better record, but worse ERA. The big difference here is that the Phillies have a tremendous offense that is hitting its stride while the D-Backs simply don't hit lefties well.

15* on Indians/Angels OVER 10
I'm taking the over with two struggling starters, two good offenses, and two unreliable bullpens. Offensively, the Indians are posting 5.6 runs per game on the road and 5.9 runs per game against left-handed starters. The Angels are posting 5.6 runs per game at home and 5.5 runs per game against right-handed starters. Indians' starter, Carl Pavano, comes into tonight's game with a 5.48 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, while Angels' starter Joe Saunders has a 4.94 ERA and 1.44 WHIP, including an 8.10 ERA and 2.04 WHIP in his last 3 starts. The Indians have the worst bullpen in the American league with a 5.17 ERA this season, including a 5.93 ERA on the road. The Angels aren't that much better at a 4.81 ERA overall this season and a 4.69 ERA at home. The over is 31-17 in all Cleveland road games and 28-18 in all Angels home games this season. Stick with the over, this one should be a slug-fest.

20 dimes - Cubs

As much as I hate to admit it, I really believe the Cubbies are going to stay hot for the time being. They are in sole possession of first place in the NL Central, just easily swept the Cincinnati Reds under the rug and they've won 8 of 10 since the All-Star break. Only the Phillies can say they've played better baseball since the Midsummer Classic and go figure, the two games the North Siders dropped were in Philadelphia early last week. The Cubs are finally starting to get healthy (although they're not quite full strength) as Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez have hit their strides, Alfonso Soriano is hitting over .330 since moving to the sixth spot in the lineup and Kosuke Fukudome and Ryan Theriot are doing an exceptional job at setting the table at the top. And tonight their bull, Carlos Zambrano, gets the call against a team he has dominated as of late. Zambrano is 8-2 with a 2.81 ERA the last four seasons against Houston and in two starts already this season, he's 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA. Big Z has the 'Stros under his thumb and he'll be ready to mow the Houston hitters down tonight. Wandy Rodriguez (10-6, 2.72) has topped all expectations, although he's much more of an average pitcher on the road. He's 5-4 with a 3.43 ERA on the highway and in five career starts at Wrigley Field, Rodriguez is 1-3 with an astounding 8.25 marker. Vegas points to his impressive two outings against the Cubs this year, but I remind you -- they were both in Houston. I love the North Siders tonight as they look to continue their red-hot streak and build on their lead in the National League Central. Play the Cubs as Monday's top play winner.

10 Dime -- Phillies (Moyer) over DIAMONDBACKS (Garland)
PHILLIES
NOTE: List only Moyer as Philadelphia's starting pitcher

Arizona’s Jon Garland (5-9, 4.41 ERA) has not been getting much help from his offense. The right-hander has received three runs or less of support in 11 of his last 12 starts, and has gone 1-7 over that time.Garland can’t entirely blame his teammates for his bad fortune at home this year, as he has a 6.33 ERA in 10 starts at Chase Field.Philadelphia’s 46-year-old lefty Jamie Moyer (9-7, 5.65) continues to amaze, and had won five straight before allowing five runs and eight hits in five innings Wednesday in a 10-5 loss to the Cubs.Garland has been rocked by Philadelphia in two career starts against them, going 0-1 with a 9.90 ERA, but he hasn’t faced Philly since 2004.Moyer, however, is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in three career starts in Arizona.Philadelphia is a major league-best 17-4 in July and has won 15 of its last 17. The world champs just got done taking two of three against a talented St. Louis team, so beating the lowly Diamondbacks shouldn’t be too much of a problem today. Go with the Phillies.

HalfBets

Twins and White Sox Over 9 runs for 4 units –120
Betting Overs has been complicated this year but what I always say is that you need two struggling pitchers on the mound and a good spot for an over. Today I believe I found that situation in the Twins and White Sox. The Pitching matchup today is Perkins (5-6 5.55 ERA) vs. Danks (8-6 3.98 ERA). Perkins has really struggled this season and especially his last 3 games giving up 16 runs in 10.1 innings pitched. Against the White Sox in the last 2 years he is averaging 5 innings giving up 4 runs a game. Danks last two games he has not looked as sharp giving up 7 ER in 10.2 innings pitched. In his two starts against the Twins this season he has given up 4 runs in 5.2 innings pitched in both games with both totals ending at 10 and 11. Perkins one game against the White Sox this year he gave up 5 ER in 4.1 innings pitched with 15 runs as the final score. Both teams have hit lefties well as of late and with the last 5 meeting between these two teams going over the total and the Over being 4-0 in Minnesota I see this as a good spot for an over. The Twins have hit lefties well at home being 24-6 in their last 30 games at home. The White Sox are 6-0 last 6 road games against left handed pitching and 10-1 in their last 11 overall. With the last 3 games in Minnesota both teams scored 20, 15, and 10 so I see this as a good spot for an over today with it at 9 runs.

Speculating Sports

LA Dodgers at St. Louis
Selection: LA DODGERS +1.5 -140

Profile: The total in this game is currently set at 7.5, so taking the plus run line here has a great deal of value, especially the Cardinals and Chris Carpenter being overpriced. The Dodgers starting pitcher, lefty Randy Wolf, has actually pitched just as well as Carpenter recently. He has allowed an average of only one base runner per inning and an ERA of 3.20 in his last three starts. Meanwhile, he has lasted twenty innings total, while giving up only sixteen hits in those three starts. St. Louis has really struggled against lefties this season, hitting .232 as a team at home and only .211 over their last ten games. The Dodgers don't even have to win this game to win the bet, and there is great value here with taking the plus run line with the best team in the National League. The Cardinals do have Matt Holliday now, but I don't feel that his addition is going to significantly change the outcome of this game. Manny Ramirez took Sunday's game off, so he should be able to play in this game. However, Juan Pierre is a more than able to fill in for him. The Dodgers also have a better road record than St. Louis' home record, and St. Louis' bullpen has been horrendous lately, leaving the Dodgers with an opportunity to get a few late inning runs to get within one run. Take Los Angeles on the +1.5 run line.

3 UNIT SELECTION

Detroit at Texas
Selection: UNDER 10 RUNS

Profile: These two teams are still being viewed as high scoring with horrible bullpens. However, both teams bullpens have dramatically improved this year, giving the under play great value. In addition, both pens have pitched even better since the All-Star break. Meanwhile, both starting pitchers are in great form heading into this game. Armando Galarraga has a 2.66 ERA and 1.08 WHIP ratio in his last three starts, and he has pitched well on the road and against Texas. Meanwhile, Tommy Hunter has pitched even better, posting a 1.04 ERA and 1.04 WHIP ratio in his last three starts. Texas' line-up has really struggled to hit the ball lately, and they got shutout on Sunday by lowly Sidney Ponson, despite scoring runs late in the game. Detroit's bats haven't been very good lately either. Look for this game to be low scoring.

SHOP AROUND TO GET THE TOTAL AT 10, TAKE THE PLAY FOR 1 UNIT IF YOU CAN ONLY FIND IT AT 9.5.

2 UNIT SELECTION

Philadelphia at Arizona
Selection: ARIZONA +108

Profile: This game is a perfect situation to get great value here and go against the public. Philadelphia is red hot right now and is coming off of a very successful home stand. However, this game will be their first one on a seven game road trip. I look for them to be sluggish in this game after becoming too overconfident because of their recent success. Meanwhile, Arizona has quietly been hitting very well since the All-Star break, including a blowout of Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Diamondbacks play very well at home, and the Phillies players haven't faced Arizona starter Jon Garland before. Arizona hits lefties very well, especially at home and recently. They should have no problem hammering the aging Jamie Moyer, who has been inconsistent all year. Better line-ups have been able to him hard. Look for Arizona to get the win.
