First, we find that the Pirates are 9-28 since 2004 season as a dog after a 5+ run loss and it is the first series of a game. Next, I have the Pirates as 3-16 SU since 2007 season as a road dog of 140+ after being shutout and it is the first game of a series . And finally, we have the Astros as 18-3 SU since 2004 season as a Home favorite after a win in which they allowed 6 or fewer hits and it is the first game in a series. Take the Home team for a win tonight.

At 7:05 pm our selection is on the Detroit Tigers over the Kansas City Royals. After some very rough outings during inter-league play, second-year Detroit pitcher Armando Galarraga seemed to right the ship in his first start back against AL opponents when he threw just over six strong innings in Oakland to earn the win against the A's on June 30. Kansas City's Gil Meche had his own issues against the National League, but unlike Galarraga, Meche did not win his first start back against an AL opponent (the Twins on July 1) and as a result now has three losses in a row in his last three starts and has not won since June 16. Meche was also on the losing end - in a big way - against this Tiger squad back on May 25 when Detroit beat the Royals 13-1 and Meche only lasted 2 1/3 innings in that one. Helping Galarraga's cause tonight is the fact that the Tigers are on a roll at home, having won their last eight games at Comerica Park and having gone 23-11 there since the start of the 2009 season. Reverse those numbers and you pretty much have the Royals record on the road in 2009 as they have been horrible when playing away from Kauffman Stadium. Take the Tigers.
