9* Baltimore Orioles +160
This is the contrarian of all contrarians. There is a lot rationale behind it however and there are good numbers supporting the Orioles here. Baltimore was able to take one of three against the Rays and it was a one-run loss away from taking the series. The Orioles are not playing great but they are not playing horrible either over the past few weeks as they are 11-12 over their last 23 games. Minnesota was able to salvage a game against the Indians after dropping the first two and moved back within two and a half games of the White Sox in the American League Central. The Twins were at home then and are now on the road where there is a 15-game difference in win splits. They are 10 games over .500 at home but five games under .500 on the road. The pitching matchup shows an even greater advantage toward the Twins but it is not as big as one might think. Carl Pavano has been outstanding this season and if not for him, the Twins rotation would be in shambles. He is 6-0 over his last eight starts with Minnesota going 7-1 in those games. This is where the value comes into play as that recent run is being taken into consideration with this line. The contrarian theory says to play against pitchers that are undefeated over five or more starts and Pavano fits the bill. Kevin Millwood was absolutely atrocious prior to landing on the disabled list with a strained forearm. Getting some time off is huge and it was pretty clear he was pitching injured for a while so looking at some of those previous numbers will give a false sense of success, or in this case, failure. While the numbers may be below average, the most important one is that the Orioles are 6-3 in Millwood’s nine home starts this season and going back, they are 10-3 in his last 13 starts as a home underdog. The Twins meanwhile are 8-20 in their last 28 road games against teams with a home winning percentage of .400 or worse. 9* Baltimore Orioles

Matchup: Minnesota at Baltimore
Time: 7:05 PM EDT (Thu)
Listed pitchers must go: (R) PAVANO, C vs. (R) MILLWOOD, K
Play: Minnesota (ML -154)
Kevin Millwood has a 11.45 ERA in his last 3 starts as he faces off against Carl Pavano and the Twins. Pavano is 5-3 with a 3.46 ERA on the road this season and takes on an Orioles squad that have dropped 5 of 6. Pavano has a big advantage with the help behind him, as the Twins bullpen sports a 2.88 ERA. Minnesota is the play.
