15* Seattle Mariners -105
The way the Royals are playing you can't really hope but go against them in just about any situation. Tonight's game stands out because Kansas City starter, Kyle Davie, has had a terrible season, particularly when he pitches at home. In 8 starts at Kauffman Stadium, Davies is 3-4 with a 8.12 ERA and 1.88 WHIP. The Mariners are starting Luke French, who has just 5 starts this season, but who has a 3.76 ERA on the year. The Royals have lost 6 of their last 7, hitting .233 as a team and averaging just 3.3 runs over that stretch. The Mariners have been a little better on offense, hitting .276 as a team and going 4-3 over their last 7 games, but their real edge here should come from their pitching, especially their bullpen, which is head-and-shoulders better than Kansas City's. On the season, the Mariners bullpen has an ERA of 3.83, a record of 21-18, and a save conversion rate of 68%. Those numbers aren't staggering until you compare them to KC's. The Royals pen is 4-11 at home this season with a 5.74 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and just a 50% save success rate, having blown 8 saves in 16 attempts.

1.5-Unit Play. Take #917 N.Y. Yankees (-110) over Toronto
Just like with the Mets, Toronto has to be a bit down after watching its ace come up short last night. The Yankees are playing great baseball and are just really tough to handle. The Yankees keep rolling against lefties. The Blue Jays keep rolling over.
1.5-Unit Play. Take #905 Atlanta (-135) over San Diego
I’ll throw my lot in with young Tommy Hanson here. San Diego has been playing really well but they still just aren’t a very good team. Atlanta has had their number recently and I give Hanson the nod over Chad Gaudin.
1.5-Unit Play. Take #923 Minnesota (-110) over Cleveland
Aaron Laffey sucks. Just two teams that are going in different directions lately. And if you look at the Twins’ schedule over the past month they have been playing nothing but good teams – Yankees, Angels, White Sox, Tigers, at Rangers – so they are undervalued.
1.5-Unit Play. Take #913 Chicago Cubs (-175) over Cincinnati
Really don’t think that this one needs much explanation. I am a moron for not being on this sooner. A moron.
1-Unit Play. Take #916 L.A. Dodgers (-135) over Milwaukee
The Dodgers didn’t win 17-4 last night because they had to make some statement. They did so because they are that much better than the Brewers. Braden Looper has a 5.60 ERA on the road this year and has gotten lit up for 11 runs in 11 innings in his last two outings. Plenty of bad blood from last night’s game and I’d rather have Jason Schmidt on the hill than Looper.
1-Unit Play. Take #907 Florida (+105) over Washington
Really can’t believe that the Marlins blew that game last night, but I think that they will bounce back and get a big ‘W’ today. The Marlins have dominated the series, going 10-2 in the last 12 meetings, and also 37-15 in the last 52 matchups. I really like how Rich Vanden Hurk has been throwing since he’s been back from the D.L.

Take the Boston Redsox +120 over the Tampa Bay Rays
(Wed @ 7pm est). The Redsox are getting a good price here coming off the loss to the Rays and with Penny on the mound coming off one of his worst losses of the year giving up six runs to Oakland at home on July 29th over the course of five innings. This came off his start against the Orioles when he pitched a shutout through six innings. Usually when Penny gets shelled he comes back with a quality start and we are going to bank on that once again. Keep in mind that David Price is quite a talent, but certainly taking the Boston Redsox off a loss and Penny off a loss is worth the dog price here. Folks, this is a 62-43 team that is capable of defeating any pitcher on any given night - and we get them once again off a loss and Penny on a bounce-back. Price could have a let down today as he pitched brilliantly against Kansas City giving up just 1 run in his last start. In fact, I've noticed a trend with Price, over his last seven starts, check out his earned run tabulations with most recent to most latest: 1, 6, 4, 1, 6, 1, 5.
The Redsox are 4-0 when they face a starter with a WHIP greater
than 1.30 and the Rays are 4-11 when Randazzos behind home plate.
