There's one dominant ace on the hill for this game in Chris Carpenter (17-4, 2.24 ERA). His last three starts: 0, 2, 1 run allowed. He's had a monster season and has been even better on the road, at 9-2 with a 2.05 ERA. He's thrown 15 innings against LA this season and has a 1.80 ERA. And Dodger stadium is a huge park, tough to score runs in. When you look close at the numbers you can see why lefty Randy Wolf (11-7) got the call in Game 1: 3.23 ERA, few walks, and consistent all season. His last 6 starts: 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2 runs allowed. The weather is not sunny-LA warm, either, at 56 at night, which helps the pitchers. Look for another great pitcher's duel in Dodger stadium as both managers have their best bullpen arms available: Play Cardinals/Dodgers Game 1 Under the total.

3* LOS ANGELES Run Line +1.5 runs -150 over ST. LOUIS

It should cost a small fortune to get a team as good as the Dodgers, and a pitcher as good and as on form as Randy Wolf, +1.5 runs when the Total on a game is ?. It tells us that both we have a strong package working for us, and also that the run itself is extremely valuable, because there are so few being projected. But the marketplace is allowing Los Angeles to be played on the Run Line at excellent value here, and that gets us in play. We can let some of the raw numbers do the work for us. Wolf worked to a solid 11-7/3.28 this season but picked it up when needed most down the stretch over his last 10 starts it was a 6-1/2.81. By having impeccable control (only 58 walks in 214.1 innings) he eliminates the opportunities for the opposition to have a big inning, and that is particularly important in a Run Line setting. So how does Wolf stack up in that category? The Dodgers were 26-8 as +1.5 behind him this season, including 9-1 in his strong run over the last 10 games. And in all games on this field the Dodgers were 58-23 as +1.5, courtesy of having George Sherrill and Jonathan Broxton to handle the latter innings, and a defense that rated #1 in the Majors on our best set of ratings. This is a difficult team to put out of a game. St. Louis counters with Chris Carpenter, odds-on to win the N.L. Cy Young, and that Albert Pujols/Matt Holliday combo in the middle of the lineup that is so dangerous. But they were just 14-14 as -1.5 in Carpenter?s starts this season, largely because there are weaknesses elsewhere. They lack table setters at the top of the order, which reduces the Pujols/Holliday impact, and closer Ryan Franklin worked to a wobbly 6.75 since September 1st, with a 2.68 WHIP that was even worse, keyed by a frightening 10 walks in 9.1 innings. He was only successful in one of his final four save opportunities, and has only thrown one inning since September 26th.

4 Unit Play. Take the Colorado Rockies +125 over the Philadelphia Phillies

The Rockies gave the Phillies all they can handle during the regular season, the recent playoffs and I certainly believe they can be competitive here tonight. Keep in mind that although Cliff Lee started off with a bang with the Phillies, he has fizzled of late. Plus, 70% of the public are riding Lee at home in Philadelphia tonight. Lee has given up 10 runs over his last two starts and has struggled. He will face a Rockies team that loves the fast ball and will have a beat on his pitches as they faced him in Philly back on August 6th and fell short 1-3. They were only able to secure six hits in seven innings in that contest. I expect them to be successful today in hitting him well as they have seen his stuff and what he has to offer and frankly, I think Lee is just not pitching all that well coming into this game. Plus, Jiminez has been solid all year long despite not having a grace period like Lee has had. This is the same guy that went into LA back on October 2nd and won giving up just 1 run in 6 innings. That says a lot about the gusto of a pitcher. Having pitched 8 of 10 quality starts, I expect Ubaldo to continue pitching well and I'll take the Rockies on the dog tag here with Ubaldo on the mound. The Rockies are 5-1 in their last six games as Underdogs.

4 Unit Play. Take Over 9.5 between the Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees

I know CC is amazing, blah, blah, blah. Great, Yankees fan. More props to you for purchasing both him and AJ. Actually, I'm just jealous as a Braves fan that you were able to do it. His entry has obviously changed the dynamic of the league and catapulted the Yankees into a powerhouse. The Yankees were not a powerhouse in the past few years as they had the hitters, but their rotation was certainly shaky. But, now, with these two gents, the rotation is as sturdy as ever- although, I believe the Cardinals can matchup to the Yankees rotation well - but that is for further down the road. Sabathia comes off a tough start where he gave up five runs in his last contest and I expect him to do well today - but having said that, the Twins have faced Sabathia in their last start and fell short. The Twins have a way of being active dogs and I can see them giving Duensing some help today as the young man is more than a 3:1 dog to hold his own today against CC. I like Minnesota to strike early and give the kid some support while the Yankees get their fair share of runs coming from behind. I like the fact that over 75% of the public indeed like the Yankees here which plays well to the over. The Over is 6-0-1 for the Twins overall and the Over is 3-0-1 in Duensing's last 3 road starts. The Over is also 3-1-1 in the Yankees five divisional games as well.

4 Unit Play. Take the Phoenix Mercury +2 over the Indiana Fever

Its now or never for Diana and company as they face Indiana today. Bear in mind that the WNBA Championships only go to five games and the playoffs are just three games. The ratings are up this year for the wnba and rightfully so as this year's championships have been exciting. Taurasi has been shooting just 33% so far in these championships and the league MVP has not been on the top of her game. Certainly, going 6-16 in a bucket point loss in the last contest shows that a better shooting night could have certainly helped this squad. Just like Indiana won a game on the road outright at Phoenix, I expect the same from the Mercury here. Taurasi has had some poor shooting days and if she is even remotely on today, Phoenix should do well. Indiana has had to shoot 50% from the field and expect a downturn in Taurasi's shooting to have won the last two games but I don't see both happening today. Taurasi was quoted as saying, ""You can't be afraid of the moment, you can't be tentative about it,'' she said. "You have an opportunity to do something special.'' Well, she has the opportunity to do something special today and Coach Corey Gaines is expected to get Taurasi the ball while making plenty of adjustments according to his latest interview. I like this game to likely go over but more importantly for Phoenix to win this contest outright today. The Mercury are 16-5 ATS after a straight up loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The Fever are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games.
