Doc’s Sports

3-Unit Play Take Milwaukee Brewers +155 over Chicago Cubs

The Brew Crew has suffered embarrassment at the hands of the Cubs in this series. If they are going to win a game in this 4-game set, it has to be this one. Braden Looper (12-6, 4.77) is a battler who gives you 100%.

3-Unit Play Take San Francisco Giants -135 over Colorado Rockies

This is the most important game of the Giants season. The Giants have won three of Matt Cain’s four starts against Colorado this year. Once again I’m going to stay up late and hopefully enjoy this one.

35 Dime - Giants

10 Dime - A's

GIANTS - After four straight losses, all against NL West rivals, the San Francisco Giants seem to have gotten back into their groove.

The Rockies, on the other hand, have gotten caught in a downward spiral after winning 10 of 11 games and winning 8 straight. Including last night’s loss at the Giants, the Rockies have now lost four straight games, while San Francisco is now on a 3-game winning streak.

And this teetering has also been the story in this season series between these two teams, battling for a wild-card spot and even a division title.

The Giants began the season taking 2 of 3 from Colorado then lost 6 of their next 9 against the Rockies. But since extra inning loss on Aug. 24, San Francisco has taken five straight against Colorado, including last night’s easy win.

Tonight, the Giants will make it 6 in a row against the NL West rival.

San Francisco comes into this game having won 3 of its last 4 games with scheduled starter Matt Cain on the mound and is 10-2 its last 12 games at home with Cain starting.

The Giants also come into this game having won 3 straight games in which Cain starts against the Rockies. They’ll make it 4 in a row tonight.

Athletics at Rangers
ATHLETICS - The line for this Athletics-Rangers game is absolutely ridiculous. The A’s are installed as a huge underdog and we are going to absolutely take advantage of that.

The A’s beat up on the Rangers 6-1 yesterday a day after blanking Texas 9-0.

With yesterday’s win Oakland has now won 7 of its last 9 games overall and has taken 6 of its last 7 against the Rangers.

The Rangers, on the other hand, have dug themselves into a hole lately. Texas began this month winning 7 of its first 9 games, but has gone 1-4 its last 5.

Texas now has to rely on scheduled starting pitcher Dustin Nippert, who has been throwing out of the bullpen most of this month, having not started since Sept. 1.

Opposite Nippert will be A’s scheduled starter Trevor Cahill, who has been solid for Oakland lately. The A’s are 4-1 his last five starts.

Oakland will cash in again with Cahill on the mound as they get over as a road dog in Texas. Take the Athletics in this one tonight.

JACK JONES

15* Baltimore Orioles -110

The Rays have lost 12 of their last 13 games, and have taken themselves completely out of the playoff picture this year. You can point to both their hitting and pitching of late. The Rays are hitting .226 as a team and scoring just 2.7 runs per game over their last 7 offensively. Starting pitcher, Andy Sonnastine was reliable for the Rays for last year's run, but he has been anything but lately, going 1-2 with a 11.25 ERA and 2.33 WHIP over his last 3 starts, and is now 1-8 with a 9.25 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 10 road starts overall this season. Baltimore has Chris Tillman throwing, and while he has started just 9 games this season, I think he picks up his 3rd win behind an Orioles' offense that is hitting .297 and averaging 5.6 runs per game over the past week.
