First off, in San Diego, where the Padres have collapsed from the basement into a mine shaft while losing 11 of their last 12 games to completely lose touch with the rest of the NL West. Taking advantage in emergency fashion is San Francisco, desperate to get back into the division race and knowing it cannot miss a chance to beat up the Padres if it wants to reel in Arizona, 6 games up with just 3 1/2 weeks left in the season. Today it's Matt Cain on the hill for the champs as they look for a third win in a row at Petco Park after last night's 6-4 triumph. We like Cain's chances, especially since the SF offense is scoring some runs this week and because Cain has allowed 2 runs or fewer in five of his last six starts. We do not have the same confidence in SD starter Aaron Harang, who also can't count on much, if any, run support. Run Line prices against woeful San Diego in the +120 range are too good to avoid.
