Matt Rivers

75,000* DOG OF THE DAY Plus Bonus Lock
Your winners here are on:

1. 75,000♦ Pirates
2. 50,000♦ Royals

1. Matt Cain certainly can be awesome at times and we have seen that much of this season for sure but this is a great great spot to go against the righthander.

Zach Duke has not been Chopped Liver at all and at home I fully believe he will outpitch Cain on this day. The SF starter was just hit by that line drive last week and missed the All-Star game because of it. Pitchers are creatures of habit and I can see this throw Cain for a bit of a loop today againsta Pittsburgh club that is not very good but is also somewhat dangerous with Jones, Sanchez, Wilson and McCutcheon.

Overall I am also not that sold on Bruce Bochy's crew. No doubt they have been playing quality ball this season but most of that has come at home and the road has been a far different story. The Giants offense is not good at all as they have mediocre bats like Rowand, Winn, Sandoval and Molina and are not exactly clicking right now out of the Break as the first two games have shown.

Look for the Giants to struggle a bit here on the road as we have seen and for Duke to continue his fine season and outpitch the beat up Cain.

2. I am asking a lot here in backing the clear inferior Royals as I am very impressed by what Tampa Bay has done over the past six or so weeks but to get a healthy price back with the potential of Luke Hochevar is good enough to give it a go.

The Rays are very very good and Matt Garza is that as well. But the righty is a little less trustworthy away from Tropicana Field and is hittable here against a not good but decent enough Royals offense with guys like DeJesus, Gullen, Butler, Teahen. Obviously the Royals offense pales in comparison to Pena, Longoria, Crawford and Upton but being away from the fast turf of the Trop definitely does help us here.

KC has been disappointing after the real solid start to the season but they have shown some fight here in this series against Tampa and to get the former number one pick in Hochevar, who is really good one start and not good the next, is worth it. You never know which Luke will show up as the guy is sketchy but his upside is also very high and I would not be surprised in the slightest if he outpitched Garza and led the Royals to the 4-3 type of a victory.

Tampa probably should win this game but it's far from a lock and after watching Garza struggle a few Sundays ago with his command in Arlington I'll take my chances against him today.

Sunday's Play

5 Dime - Pittsburgh (Duke) and San Francisco (Cain) UNDER the total

A combined total of five runs have been scored in the first two games of this weekend series, a period covering 23 innings. San Francisco has stayed under in six of its last eight games and four in a row on the road. No surprise considering the Giants are 13th in the league in run production. They've managed just 12 hits (one for extra bases) to go along with four walks and 18 strikeouts in the 23 innings played in this series so far. And their only run this weekend came courtesy of an error and wild pitch.Pittsburgh has stayed under to the tune of 17-4-1 in its last 22 games, including 12 of 15 at PNC Park. The Pirates have scored a grand total of seven runs in their last four games. They've plated just 25 in their last 10 outings.Runs will continue to be at a premium with today's pitching match-up between All Stars Zack Duke and Matt Cain. Pittsburgh's Duke, ironically, was named to the mid-summer classic's roster as a replacement for Cain after the San Francisco hurler was literally knocked out of his last start by a line drive to his pitching arm.Duke, who is 6-3 with a 2.77 ERA in nine home starts this season, enjoyed tremendous success versus the Giants a year ago when he compiled a 1.65 earned run averaged in two starts against them.Cain carries a 2.37 ERA in his last five starts, a mark that's just a notch below his season average of 2.38.

400♦ Colorado Rockies

Specify Marquis & Latos as starting pitchers or play is void

Go with the Rockies as they bound back for the easy road win.

In great shape to bounce back I love the Rockies today as I am a bit shocked Colorado is not a much bigger favorite. Reason why I believe Colorado should be a much bigger favorite is the fact they own the Padres having won 9 of the last 13 meetings. Not to make it 10 of 14 will be Jason Marquis who at 11-6 leads the NL in wins and who is only getting better over his last three starts thanks to posting a 1.17 ERA.

Meanwhile, for the Padres they come into today with two things going against them as they have failed to win back to back home games in nearly two months and with Latos making his MLB debut after being called up from just single A baseball. Mix that in with the fact the San Diego is just 4-17 over their last 22 games and I don’t see they winning back to back home games.

Flat out, when I saw the price tag on this game I was tempted to play the run line as I don’t see the Rockies losing with Marquis pitching against a rookie, but with runs hard to come by at Petco I will settle for a Colorado win.

All Colorado!

*200 Chicago White Sox -140

Take the White Sox for another win today. The White Sox are 21-4 SU since 2005 season as home 140+ favorite after a win in which they allowed 1 of fewer walks and it is not the first game of a series. Also, the White Sox are 14-1 SU since 2004 season as a favorite after a win in which they did not walk their opponent. Take the White Sox today for the win.

Has another 200 Unit Play

Twins at Rangers
Pick: Rangers
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Holland has not been good this season but lefties give the Twins some trouble. Holland's roster spot most likely on the line with his peformance here so we should get a supreme effort from him. Liriano is no longer special and he struggle to get easy outs vs a tough lineup in a pitcher's park. Texas still in the thick of the AL West race and need to avoid the home sweep.
