San Francisco (40-34) at St. Louis (41-36)
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
After salvaging one game in a weekend set in Milwaukee, the Giants move on to St. Louis’ Busch Stadium where they will send ace Tim Lincecum (7-2, 2.57 ERA) to the mound opposite the Cardinals’ Brad Thompson (2-3, 4.50).

San Francisco got a 7-0 win on Sunday over the Brewers after dropping the first two games of the series. Young hurler Ryan Sadowski led the way, throwing six inning of shutout baseball in his first major league start. St. Louis fell to the Twins on Sunday, 6-2, dropping the Cards to 1-5 in their last six overall. In this series, the Giants have won four of the last five.

The Giants are on slides of 12-28 against teams from the N.L. Central and 9-20 on the road against teams with winning records. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 9-4 in their last 13 against right-handed starters, but just 17-35 on Mondays, 0-5 against the N.L. West and 2-8 in series openers.

Lincecum is 4-1 on the road with a 2.57 ERA and he’s 2-1 in his last three outings with a 1.38 ERA. Tuesday he gave up one run in a complete-game, 4-1, win in Oakland. He’s lasted at least six innings in each of his last 10 starts and held the opposition to three runs or less in nine of those 10, including seven straight. Last time he was in St. Louis was April 2008 when he held the Cardinals scoreless for seven innings in a 3-0 San Francisco victory. With Lincecum on the mound, the Giants are on runs of 5-2 on the road, 9-3 in series openers and 7-3 against N.L. Central squads.

Thompson has made three straight road starts, including Wednesday in New York when the Mets got him for five runs in five innings and beat the Cardinals 11-0. He’s allowed three runs or more in five of his last seven outings and has a 5.12 ERA at home this season. In his lone start against the Giants, he allowed two runs in two innings back in 2006. With Thompson starting, the Cardinals are on streaks of 10-3 at home, 9-4 overall and 6-2 against the N.L. West.

The under has been the play for the Giants in Lincecum’s last four starts and it is 4-1 in his last five outings after five days of rest. The under has also been the play in eight of Thompson’s last 11 starts overall, including four of his last five at Busch.

As a team, the Giants are on “under” streaks of 15-6-1 on the road, 6-2 overall, 5-1 against right-handed starters and 7-2 on the road against teams with winning home records. For the Cardinals, the “over” is 5-1 in their last six against the N.L. West, but the “under” is on runs of 14-6 at home, 5-1 overall and 21-8-1 at home against a team with a winning record. In this series, the “over” has been the play in seven of the last nine.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

L.A. Angels (41-32) at Texas (40-34)
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
With interleague play now out of the way, the top two teams in the American League West open a three-game set at the Ballpark in Arlington when the Angels send Sean O’Sullivan (1-0, 3.00 ERA) to the mound to face Rangers’ veteran Vicente Padilla (6-3, 4.48).

Los Angeles comes in having won five in a row, including a three-game sweep in Arizona that concluded with Sunday’s 12-8 victory. Texas has won four of six overall but lost two straight at home to the Padres over the weekend, finishing the series with a 2-0 loss Sunday.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The Rangers swept a May three-game home series over the Angels and they’ve won five of the last six series clashes dating back to last season. Otherwise, Los Angeles is on several positive runs, including 6-0 on the road, 6-1 in series openers and 6-2 on the road against teams with winning records. Texas has dropped five in a row against teams with winning records, but it is on runs of 17-4 against A.L. West rivals, 5-2 overall and 5-2 against right-handed starters.

O’Sullivan is making just his third career start, looking sharp in his first two big-league outings. He gave up three runs on six hits in five innings of a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday and held the Giants to one run on five hits in seven innings of an 8-1 win in his debut on June 16.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Padilla has looked great in his last three starts, going 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA. On Wednesday, he allowed one run through seven innings of a 2-1 Texas win at Arizona and the Rangers have won six of his last eight starts. With Padilla starting, they are also on runs of 35-17 overall, 6-2 in series openers and 12-3 when Padilla starts against the A.L. West. He faced the Angels back on May 16 and gave up just three runs in eight innings of a 5-3 Texas victory. The Rangers have won three of his last four starts against Los Angeles and is 6-3 with a 4.72 ERA in his career against the Angels.

With Padilla on the hill, the Rangers are on “over” runs of 22-5-2 in series openers, 4-0 on Mondays and 20-9-1 against teams with winning records. As a team, Texas is on a plethora of “under” streaks that include 43-17-1 overall, 23-6-1 at home, 5-1 against the A.L. West and 7-0-1 at home against teams with winning records. The Angels have topped the total in four straight Monday games, five straight series openers and six of seven against right-handed starters. In this rivalry, the over is 7-3-1 in Padilla’s last 11 against the Angels, but the under is 4-1 in the last five overall in Texas.

BIG AL
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
At 8:05pm our complimentary selection is on the Texas Rangers over the Los Angeles Angels. Inter-league play is over and the Rangers are probably quite pleased about that. Not that they played that badly in the games vs. the National League (they basically went .500 during the 18 inter-league contests this season), but they definitely didn't want to see their chief rival in the division -- and tonight's foe -- have any more success at the expense of the NL. The Angels simply killed their opposition during inter-league play this season, going a league-best 14-4 and having pulled into first place in the race for the AL West title in the process. So this series is huge as we head into the all-star break, and the Rangers get to start out with their hottest starter of late, veteran righthander Vicente Padilla. The one-time Phillie is not only the hottest Ranger pitcher, but he's arguably been one of the best in the AL over his past four starts dating back to June 7, going 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA. Padilla isn't a strikeout pitcher as his 40 Ks in just over 78 innings will attest, but he's a smart veteran who relies on changing speeds and picking batters apart. He's done well in his career against the Angels, going 6-3 in 12 lifetime starts against them, including a big win on May 16 at this same ballpark when he almost went all the way (eight innings). He should step up big again tonight in Arlington. Take the Rangers. Good luck - Big Al McMordie.

The Angels have won five straight games and head into this divisional series with the big advantage despite playing it on the road. They are coming off a sweep at Arizona to move to 21-17 on the road and going back further we see Los Angeles with six straight road wins. The Angels are 16-8 in June and because of the stellar month thus far, have taken over first place in the American League West. Kudos to Texas for hanging in there but after a strong start to the season, it has not been a good run. The Rangers are 3-7 over their last 10 games 10-14 in June. Also playing at home has not been a real advantage as Texas is 5-8 in its last 13 home games. Vicente Padilla has been pitching really well of late seven of his last nine starts have been quality outings and this does include a quality performance against the Angels back in May. There are still issues however and one big one comes in his starts at night as he has a 6.03 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in seven starts under the lights with just two of those seven starts being quality outings. Despite that strong outing against the Angels last month, Padilla is 3-2 with a 5.54 ERA in seven starts at home this season and in his career he is 6-3 with a 4.72 ERA in 12 starts against the Angels. Sean O’Sullivan counters for Los Angeles and his big league career has gotten off to a very good start. He allowed just one run in seven innings in his Major League debut at San Francisco and followed that up by allowing three runs in five innings against Colorado. All three of those runs came off two home runs from Troy Tulowitzki. His command should be better this time around following a three-walk performance against the Rockies. The Angels are 10-1 in their last 11 games following a win while the Rangers are 0-5 in their last five games against a team with a winning record. Also, Los Angeles is 11-2 this season against starting pitchers that are averaging 2.75 or more walks per game. 3* Los Angeles Angels

Play: Detroit Tigers
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
It appeared the Al Central leading Tigers would get swept in their first series of their current nine-game road trip but a clutch homer by Brandon Inge put Detroit in the win column versus Houston on Sunday. Detroit will look to ride that momentum into a three-game set in Oakland with the first game set for Monday night. The Athletics have lost five straight and are a league-worst 5-13 W/L since June 9. The Tigers outscored the Athletics 34 to 9 during a three-game sweep in Detroit back in May but the Tigers have struggled here when facing the Athletics losing seven of their last eight trips to the bay area. Oakland will send Brett Anderson to the bump with his record of 3-7 W/L and an ERA of 5.74. He has only faced the Tigers once and that was back in May giving up nine runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings of work in a 14 to 1 loss. The Tigers will send Rick Porcello to the hill with his record of 8-4 W/L and an ERA of 3.55. Porcello is 2-1 W/L with a 3.67 ERA in five starts this month and in his only appearance against the Athletics in May he threw for six innings allowing one run and three hits in a 9 to 1 win. We expect more of the same as the Tigers ride the momentum of Sundays win over Houston and Porcellos arm to a victory. The Athletics are 9-26 W/L (-17.2) when playing against a team with a winning record this season. Detroit is 22-6 W/L (+14.2) after 6 consecutive games versus interleague opponents the last 3 seasons and 14-4 W/L (+9.4) against AL West opponents this season. Lay the chalk with the Tigers as they get the win on Monday night over the Athletics.

The Tigers are coming off an exciting late game heroic win which makes them 8-2. Oakland loses another game yesterday and now have 5 straight losses. DET has struggled on the road this year thus the lower money line than usual. Today they go to there stud young rookie Porcello. He has been great this year and Porcello is 2-1 with a 3.67 ERA in five outings this month. He has a big advantage of starter Anderson who is 3-7 with a plus 5.00 ERA. The losing streak of OAK has been brought on by a huge slump from an already poor offense. OAK has not scored over 3 runs in there losing streak. DET will win easy as Porcello will shut them down for at least 7 innings. At the plate DET will get there average at least 5 runs!! SCORE DET 6 - OAK 2

Los Angeles Angels +110

It seems to me the wrong team is favored in tonights AL West battle between the Angels and Rangers.

Anaheim is clicking on all cylinders right now. They swept the hapless Arizona Diamondbacks which in itself isnt any great shakes. But the way the Halos did it, speaks volumes about how much this club has improved just over the last month. The Angels hit with runners in scoring position and hit for power. They were aggressive on the base paths and they played solid defense.

They got great starting pitching in two of the three games and closer Brian Fuentes was lights out in his two appearances. Even the Anaheim defense which entered Sundays game with the worst bullpen ERA in baseball (5.51) stepped up big in the series finale. The Angels have now won five straight and seem to be playing their baseball of the season just in time for this weeks series against the second-place Rangers.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Texas swept Anaheim in May taking three games and beating Weaver, Lackey and Saunders in that order. However this isnt the same Texas team. Without the injured Josh Hamilton the offense has struggled. Case in point the once mighty Rangers managed just one hit Sunday against Chad Gaudin of the Padres.

Texas is 3-7 in its last ten games and scored a total of 15 runs in those seven losses. The Angels are 7-3 over that same period in which they scored 12 runs on two different occasions and eleven runs in another

Tonights pitching matchup has Angel rookie Sean O'Sullivan facing Vicente Padilla. O'Sullivan is 1-0 with an ERA of 3.00 while the veteran Padilla is 6-3 including a 3-0 mark with a 2.16 ERA in his last three outings.

Consider as well that with interleague play in the rear view mirror, Vlad Guerrero returns to the Angel weapon giving them yet another weapon.

G-Man will lay the road wood this Monday night with Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum as he does battle with the slumping Cardinals.

St. Louis dropped a 6-2 decision at home to the Twins on Sunday, as the Redbirds have now lost 5 of their last 7 games.

San Francisco is a nice young team that is enjoying some success of late, as the Giants shutout the Brewers yesterday for their 6th win in their last 9 games.

Tim Lincecum is hands-down the better of the 2 starters toeing the rubber tonight, and he is fresh off a complete game win over Oakland to up his mark to 7-2 for the year with an ERA of 2.57.

Compare that to Brad Thompson's 2-2 mark with an ERA approaching 5, and there really isn't too much to think about here.

G-Man says lay-it with the Giants.

Got the FREE winner Sunday when the Angels scored the shoot-out win over the D'Backs in Arizona. Today we'll get you another one as we play the Cardinals at home against San Francisco.

St. Louis hasn't been the dominant club it should be at home this season, but you can count on the Cardinals tonight as they light-hitting Giants come to town.

Brad Thompson (2-3, 4.50 ERA) is on the mound for the Cardinals and they are 10-3 at home when he toes the rubber, 9-4 in his last 13 overall and 6-2 in his last eight starts against the N.L. West. He'll be able to keep the Giants' hitters off-balance tonight, and he doesn't have to fear any power coming from San Francisco because there is none in that lineup.

The Giants have ace Tim Lincecum on the mound, but even with his help they will be just mediocre tonight. San Francisco is on slides of 12-28 against squads from the N.L. Central and 9-20 on the road against teams with winning records.

The way Albert Pujols is hitting the ball, he'll be able to drive in a few runs for Thompson tonight and we expect the young right-hander for the Cardinals to keep to Giants to two runs or less.

St. Louis isn't happy having just dropped two of three to the Twins over the weekend. Their fans always support this team and they will be there in full force tonight. Play the Cardinals to win this one.

Chicago White Sox -115 at CLEVELAND
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Gavin Floyd (5-5, 4.45 ERA) has been on a roll for the White Sox.

The right-hander has tossed seven consecutive quality starts, and is 3-1 with a 1.60 ERA over that span. One of those starts was June 6 against the Indians, who Floyd faces today, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 4-2 victory.

Floyd also faced Cleveland on May 11, and allowed eight runs on 11 hits in five innings, but that was before he turned his season around.

As strong as Floyd has been lately, Cleveland starter Carl Pavano (6-6, 5.80) has been the complete opposite. The veteran right-hander had his best start of the season against Chicago on June 5, pitching a three-hitter in a 6-0 victory, but he has been awful since then.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
In his last three starts, Pavano is 0-2 with a 12.15 ERA after winning six of his previous seven outings. He was battered by Pittsburgh for eight runs (three earned) and 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday in his last start.

And Cleveland’s lineup is a little weaker now with the departure of Mark DeRosa, who was traded to St. Louis over the weekend. DeRosa was second on the Indians with 13 homers, 50 RBIs and 47 runs scored.

The Indians have lost 10 of its last 12 games, and now have to face a Chicago team that has hit better on the road than it has at home. That’s not a good combination for Cleveland with Pavano on the mound. Go with the White Sox.

Prefer to lay a little road wood with the White Sox as they take on division-rival Cleveland at Progressive Field on Monday.

The Pale Hose blanked the Cubs yesterday for their 6th win their last 8 times on the diamond, and their second win in a row.

Cleveland got bombed 8-1 yesterday, as the Tribe has now lost their last pair, 4 of 5, and 9 of their last 11 overall.

Chicago starter Gavin Floyd has been in a groove, allowing just 3 earned runs over his last 21 innings of work, while Cleveland starter Carl Pavano has been lit for 18 runs his last 14 innings of work.

Pavano does own a complete game shutout over the White Sox the last time he faced them in early June, as the Tribe is 4-2 in this year's season series with the Sox.

Payback time for Chicago, as they continue Pavano's recent struggles.

Brutal free-play beat with the Tigers in Houston on Sunday, as the Detroit bullpen blew a 4-3, eighth-inning lead and lost 5-4. For Saturday’s freebie, we’ll back Felix Hernandez and the Mariners down in Hollywood against the Dodgers.

Hernandez isn’t just hot, he’s a raging inferno right now. Over his last six starts, the hard-throwing right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA. No, that’s not a misprint: He’s given up exactly five earned runs in 45 innings. During this six-start stretch, the Mariners are 5-1 and Hernandez has dialed up 42 strikeouts against just 13 walks. And check out what King Felix has done on the road this season: 4-1, 1.98 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 39 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings, with Seattle going 6-2. (In his last four on the road – at San Diego, Baltimore, the Angels and Texas – Hernandez has given up just one earned run and 19 hits in 29 2/3 innings).

Perhaps not as impressive but definitely as important, Hernandez – who has been prone to giving up the gopher ball in his career – has surrendered just two home runs in his last eight starts covering 57 2/3 innings.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Tonight, Hernandez lucks out in that he’s not only working in one of the best pitcher’s parks in baseball, but he gets to “dodge” Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez, who has one week remaining on his suspension. Without Ramirez, the Dodgers’ offense hasn’t really missed a beat … except in the home-run department (L.A. ranks in the bottom third of major-league teams in homers).

Another piece of good fortune for Hernandez is his mound counterpart tonight. Journeyman lefty Eric Milton is getting his first start since June 5, and while he’s certainly been surprisingly effective in three starts with L.A. (2-0, 2.45 ERA), he hasn’t pitched past 5 1/3 innings in any of those contests. That’s a big deal, because the Dodgers’ bullpen is overworked.

Finally, despite last night’s loss in L.A., the Mariners have won seven of 10 overall (allowing three runs or fewer in all seven wins) and they’re still 6-3 in the last nine meetings with the Dodgers, including 4-3 in So-Cal. Lay the cheap price with Hernandez, who will twirl another gem and guide Seattle to an easy win.

For Monday take the coin back with the underdog Nats in Florida.

Sure the Marlins are the better team today on this field and sure they win this game more than they don't. But I really do believe that Washington is better than their pathetic record indicates and at this price with a former Marlin on the bump for us I say why the heck not back this pup!?!?!?

You never fully know what you will ever get from Scott Olsen. Plus the Southpaw has not pitched in the bigs in awhile but with that said the motivation should certainly be there and even with the recent improvements Ricky Nolasco is far from a guy that is all with it.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
The Florida righthander was awful in the first few months of the season and at anytime has the potential to implode a bit. I'm not at all saying that when push comes to shove Nolasco is not better than Olsen but there is a potential for him to lose it a bit and guys like Zimmerman, Dunn, Guzman and Johnson are good enough to plate some runs.

Let's not forget how the Marlins started the season 11-1 and have not been the same team since. Florida is a solid squad with Ramirez, Uggla and Cantu leading the way but they are also far from being a club that can really be laying a big price right now behind a mediocre hurler.

This is a winnable game and at this price I'm willing to take my chances on the bad, but better than most believe, Nats.
