The San Francisco Giants won it all a year ago, but if they are going to have a chance to defend their crown, they are going to have to step things up - especially on the road. The Giants have been one of the worst road teams in MLB this season, as they enter this contest at 15-30, including 1-10 in their last 11. They have dropped the first three in this series, and the Reds have been shinning brightly at home on the season where they own a 29-14 record. The Reds are 38-15 in their last 53 as a favorite, including 6-0 behind today's chucker Leake. The Giants are just 4-10 in their last 14 here, and overall just 3-7 against the Reds with Cain on the hill. Play on Cincinnati.

Your Thursday freebie is on xx another Over between the Yankees and Twins as they conclude their four game series from Target Field.

Two of the first three of this four game set have landed Over the total, as the New York offense has finally gotten untracked with 20 runs in the last 27 innings played.

The Over is now 6-1-2 the last 9 times these teams have played one another and with David Phelps working against Kyle Gibson, the Over will be upped to 7-1-2 in the last ten meetings.

Phelps has hit a rough patch, allowing 15 runs his last 14 innings of work for an ERA of 9.64.

Gibson is making his second big league start, and with New York now swinging free-and-easy since this series started, no reason to think they won't be able to continue getting their licks in in the series finale.

Over we go in the Yankees-Twins.

Your comp play for the 4th of July is the Under in Cleveland-Kansas City.

No fireworks today with Ubaldo Jimenez and James Shields keeping order on the hill.

Jimenez has now worked his last 7 starts with just 3 or fewer allowed, and 6 of those 7 starts have ended up going Under the total, including each of his last 4.

As for Shields, 13 of his last 15 starts this season have seen 3 runs or less allowed, and 8 of his last 11 trips to the mound have resulted in Unders for the Royals.

The last time these teams met back in June, Jimenez allowed only 2 runs to Kansas City in his 6 plus frames in a 4-3 final that resulted in an Under. In Shields' start in that series on June 17th, the righty worked 6 innings of 1 run ball in a 2-1 final.

It will be "deja-vu all over again" as Yogi says...Play the Under in the Indians-Royals on Thursday afternoon.

2♦ CLEVELAND-KANSAS CITY UNDER

Seriously, how good are the Pittsburgh Pirates?

All you cynics who have even thought - not said, just thought it: "They do this every year, and they will fold in the 2nd half..." YOU ARE AN IDIOT! You have no clue about baseball and don't know what you're talking about. Last season, and the previous ones when the Bucs were winning early in the season, make note they didn't have the pitching staff they did this year.

This season, the relief staff ranks fourth in baseball and the starters rank third. But this staff leads the bigs in ERA as a whole. And barring injuries, there's nothing going to change about this pitching staff.

And part of that rotation is young Gerrit Cole, who was called up last month and was the organization's top prospect. Now fondly reffered to as The Cole Train, he's the first Pirates pitcher in 105 years with wins in each of his first four starts. He takes the mound at PNC Park, where he is already 3-0, and I love what I see from this kid, despite him being primarily a pitch-to-contact hurler so far (11 strikeouts over 24-1/3 innings). Can you imagine when he starts shutting down hitters at the dish?

The Pirates have dominated Baseball Tonight, and MLB.TV's topic of conversation, as they boast a Major League-best 52-31 mark, and just past the halfway point of the campaign, that means Pittsburgh is on pace for their first 100-win season since 1909, a year the Bucs won the World Series

Play Pittsburgh here, and list Cole only.

Alright, so let me tell you why I'm siding with the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis today, against the New York Yankees: Kyle Gibson, is his name.

Yes, he's that good, and that's probably why he's laying money to the pinstripes and their three-game win streak.

Gibson made his big league debut on Saturday and threw a solid six innings at Target Field, against the Kansas City Royals, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five, while not walking a single batter. Today, being it's our nation's birthday and it's a holiday, he is expecting about 15 friends and family to see the holiday matinee.

I love his chances against the Yankees, whose Triple-A affiliate have already seen his best stuff, as he allowed only one run in 13 innings in two starts against it while still pitching in the minors.

So even though the Yankees have won 13 of their last 14 games against an AL Central team, I want you playing the Twins on this holiday, and listing Gibson ONLY.

FREDDY WILLS

Philadelphia Phillies +124

It's hard to imagine that the Pirates can continue at this level of play. I think we get good value here on Cole Hamels who has a 1.56 ERA in three career starts at PNC. He goes up against the rookie Gerrit Cole who is a highly touted prospect, but still young enough to make some mistakes. The Phillies have scored some runs lately and are #3 in OPS in the last 7 days so I think they can win a low scoring battler here today on the 4th. Hamels is on 7 days rest actually and should be fully motivated to win on the 4th against a Pirates team that is 21st in OPS vs. LHP.

STEVE JANUS

Colorado Rockies -122

The Rockies are poised to put an end to the Dodgers 4-game winning streak tonight, as they will be extremely motivated to avoid getting swept at home.

Colorado is clearly showing some great value here as a small home favorite behind red-hot starter Jhoulys Chacin. In his last three starts Chacin has posted a ridiculous 0.76 ERA and 0.760 WHIP. In his most recent start he threw 8 scoreless innings at home against the Giants, improving the Rockies record to 7-3 this season when he takes the mound at Coors Field.

Colorado should have no trouble providing Chacin with enough run-support to pull out a victory, as they go up against the struggling Chris Capuano, who is 2-5 with a 5.00 ERA in 9 starts and was just rocked in his most recent outing, allowing 7 runs on 10 hits in just 3 and 2/3 innings of work against the Phillies.

As good as the Dodgers have been playing, they are still just 5-17 as a road underdog of +100 or higher and a mere 3-10 in Capuano's last 10 starts as an underdog. At the same time, Colorado is 18-8 as a home favorite of -110 to -150 and a dominant 8-2 in Chacin's last 10 starts as a home favorite of -110 to -150!
