Houston starter Felipe Paulino is significantly better at home than on the road, as are the Astros. In his last three starts he’s fanned 15 in 10 innings with only 1 walk, so there is talent here. Houston has won 2 straight while San Fran is 21-32 on the road. Starter Jonathan O. Sanchez is erratic, walking 8 in his last 16 innings, plus 54 walks in 95 innings on the season. Play the Astros.

The best over team in the league lately has been LAA as they have gone over the total in 10 straight games. In fact they have gone over total in 22 of last 28 games! Lackey usually goes 7 inning and gives up 2-3 runs. But the bullpen is where many of the runs have been given up by LAA. Contreras on the other hand gives up almost 1 run per inning and against the hottest hitting team in the league he might even give up more. LAA get at least 7 runs today and CHW score at least 4 runs. This one has the makings of a really high scoring game as both teams bats have been super HOT and the over trend for LAA is hard to ignore. TAKE OVER 9

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds
Play: Chicago Cubs
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
The Cubs are 7-1 in their last 8 games against a Central division opponent and they are a perfect 8-0 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record. Tom Gorzelanny (3-1, 5.19 ERA) pitched good in the minors this season with an ERA of just 2.48 in 15 games. Gorzelanny has struggled against the Reds in the past but I look for him to pitch with confidence tonight with this powerful Cubs line-up behind him. Johnny Cueto (8-8, 4.06) has sruggled over his last 3 starts with an ERA of 6.88 and he was hit hard in his July.24 outing against the Cubs. The Reds are hitting just .181 as a team over their last 7 games and they have lost 7 staright at home. Take the Chicago Cubs as my MLB Free Play for Tuesday night.

Play: Minnesota Twins
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Minnesota is now 52-53 on the season while Cleveland comes in with a 44-61 record this year. Minnesota is 12-3 when playing on Tuesday this year. Cleveland is 13-30 this year after a win. Minnesota has a 3.52 ERA on the road this year. Scott Baker is 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA his last 3 starts. David Huff has an ERA of 6.39 overall this year, 5.01 ERA on the road and a 5.49 ERA his last 3 starts. Baker has a 3.73 ERA overall vs Cleveland since 1997 while Huff is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA overall vs Minnesota since 1997. We'll recommend a small play on Minnesota tonight!

Florida Marlins at Washington Nationals
Prediction: Florida Marlins
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Is Josh Johnson the best kept secret in MLB betting? The Marlins have won 16 of his 21 starts in 2009, including 9 of 10 off a win. Even better is the fact that the Fish are a perfect 7-0 this season on the road when coming off a one run win. Nobody, and we mean nobody, pitches any better in division play than does Johnson, who owns a phenomenal 16-1 team start record vs. NL East opponents. What makes Washington truly awful is how poorly they perform when they are a huge underdog (+150 or more), going 5-26 in those games. Easy winner here. Take Florida.

1 Unit on Philadelphia Phillies -134
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
The Phillies were red hot at home in the month of July, but at this price they are still being treated like the team that struggled at home in June. The Phillies return home after dropping consecutive games and I expect them to bounce back strong tonight. Here are the keys: The Rockies are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in this matchup, the Phillies are 6-1 in Moyer's last 7 starts and 14-2 in their last 16 games as a home favorite. Bet the Phillies.

Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox
Pick: Los Angeles Angels -140

The Sox put a 3-1 beat down on the Yankees, outscoring them 27-11 over their four-game series. Can they do the same to another hot team? I don't see it happening tonight. Los Angles has won 17 of their last 20 including five straight. They've won eight straight on the road which is the club's best road run in over 20 years. Tonight they put John Lackey on the mound who is 7-4 overall, 3-1 on the road and a perfect 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA in his last three starts. The Angels actually average more runs per game on the road (5.8) than they do at home. The White Sox simply don't have the offense to keep up here. With Jose Contreras on the mound the past three seasons, the White Sox are just 1-12 when facing teams that average 5.2+ runs per game. LA gets the call here.

Scott Rickenbach

Arizona Diamondbacks @ Pittsburgh Pirates
PICK: Under 8.5

We missed with this play in this spot last night but we come right back with it here as the Pirates are now hosting the Diamondbacks instead of the Nationals. Note that Arizona has been one of the weakest-hitting road teams in the league this season. Also, Pittsburgh's lineup has lost a lot of pop as they've traded away players as their miserable season has continued. Yusmeiro Petit has allowed three earned runs or less in three of his last four starts.

As for Zach Duke of the Pirates, he's been rock solid at home this season - 6-4 with a 3.00 ERA - and he's also been very consistent overall this season. 15 of Duke's 21 starts have been quality starts! He stays strong here but so does Petit and that leads to a low-scoring pitchers duel in the Steel City. Consider a small play on UNDER the total in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.

Mike Rose

Chicago Cubs

Southpaw Tom Gorzelanny will make his Cubs debut and first big league start in almost a year this evening. He had been on the Pirates roster at the beginning of the season but only played a relief role. Hes been pitching for Triple-A Indianapolis this year where he was 4-3 with a 2.48 ERA, and was scorching hot in July allowing just four ERs through 32.1 total innings of work. In five career starts against the Reds, Toms posted a 2-2 record with a 7.54 ERA & 1.90 WHIP.

Johnny Cuetos regression continued his last time out against the San Diego Padres where he got shelled for nine hits and six ERs through just five innings; he got saddled with his second straight loss and fourth in his L/6 outings. July was a nightmare for him as he went 1-4 with a lofty 8.16 ERA in six outings, and he comes into his 22nd start of the year 8-8 with a 4.06 ERA & 1.34 WHIP with a K/BB ratio of 95/43. Hes 1-1 against Chicago this season, and in his career, is 2-4 with a 4.03 ERA & 1.29 WHIP vs. the Cubs.

While the Cubs are a bankroll bursting 2-11 when installed a road underdog in the +100 to +125 range, theyre 8-1 against losing clubs since the All Star break. Cincy cant get out of its own way right now, and it doesnt help that theyre batting at a woeful .164 clip against lefties their L/10 games. Chicago must take it to clubs like this in order to compete with the Redbirds the rest of the season. Look for Gorzo to impress in his Cubs debut and for Chicago to continue to own Dusty and the Reds!

Larry Ness

ANA (-140) vs CWS

The Yankees had won 11 of 13 games since the break, heading into last weekend's series with the White Sox. However, Chicago took the first three games of that series (outscoring the Yanks 27-11), before losing Sunday's finale 8-5. The White Sox have picked up their home play since late June, winning six consecutive home series while going 14-6. However, slowing down the Angels may be a "horse of a different color." The Angels are 14-3 since the All Star break and a remarkable 17-3 since placing All Stars Vladimir Guerrero (strained left knee) and Torii Hunter (strained adductor) on the DL. Amazingly, the Angels have batted .324 as team without the duo, raising their team average to .290 on the year, the highest of any team in MLB. The Angels will take an eight-game road winning streak into tonight's game and also own a HUGE pitching edge. John Lackey got a late start to 2009 because of an injury but the team's ace (Lackey went 58-40 with a 3.52 ERA from 2005 through 2008 with the Angels going 80-48 in his starts) has won his last four, while posting a 1.47 ERA. The White Sox will counter with Jose Contreras. The vet got off to a horrible start in 2009 (0-5 with an 8.19 ERA in his first six starts / team was 0-6), but a month-long stint in the minors seemed to be "just what the doctor ordered." Contreras returned to the majors on June 8 and promptly went 4-2 with a 2.06 ERA over six starts. His return to form hasn't lasted though, as he's lost his last three outings, posting a 5.94 ERA. I'm not going against the Angels OR Lackey in this one. Take LA.
