San Francisco (94-70) has lost the first two games of this series after their 9-0 loss on Sunday. The Over is 9-3-1 in the Giants' last 13 games after allowing at least five runs in their last game. The Over is also 8-3-2 in San Fran's last 13 games following an off day. They send out Vogelsong who is 14-9 with a 3.37 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP this season. But while the right-hander enjoys a 2.86 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and .228 opponent's batting average when at home, he sees these numbers rise to a 3.87 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and .256 opponent's batting average when on the road. The Giants have played 7 of their last 9 road games Over the Total with Vogelsong on the mound. Cincinnati (99-65) counters with Bailey who is 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP this year. Bailey has not been as effective at home this year where he has been saddled with a 5.16 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and .299 opponent's batting average as compared to his 2.32 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and .213 opponent's batting average when on the road. Additionally, the Over is 18-7-2 in the Reds' last 27 games when favored in the -110 to -150 price range. The Over is also 4-1-2 in Cincy's last 7 games with Bailey pitching with the Total set in the 7-8.5 range. Cincinnati has also played 4 straight games Over the Total in Bailey's last 4 starts against the Giants. Lastly, in the last 5 meetings between these two teams, the game finished Over the Total 4 times.

Despite their reputation has all-pitching and no hitting, the over is 33-16-2 in the Giants last 51 overall. And that reputation is not accurate, with the Giants 12th in baseball in runs scored and 8th in on base percentage. Ryan Vogelsong has a 2.86 ERA at home but that shoots up a full run higher on the road, and the over is 7-2 in Vogelsong's last 9 road starts. Home Baily goes for the Reds and the over is 4-1-2 in Baileys last 7 home starts, plus 4-0 over the total in his last 4 starts vs. Giants. And when these teams meet the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Cincinnati. Play the Giants/Reds Game 3 over the total.

The Giants have their backs to the wall, but let's not count them out just yet. Homer Bailey is not exactly a great homer, and while Ryan Vogelsong's luck ran dry late, he's still live at this price. I'll give the Giants a go at the number.

The Tigers have the A’s by the throat and will go in for the kill here. Chances are good they’ll get it. Manager Jim Leyland could have gone with Max Scherzer for game three but instead chose Anibal Sanchez and that’s a ringing endorsement for tonight’s starter.

Sanchez has the credentials and skills that make him worthy of backing in this spot. His surface stats on the year were rather average but bad luck played a big role. Truth be told, the guy can deal it. His 2.43 ERA, 37/5 - K/BB ratio in six September starts is more indicative of what he’s capable of. Since July 1, Sanchez has been downright dominant the first and second times through opposing line-ups with a BAA of .143. He has an elite strikeout rate and that should bode well here against an A’s team that struck out more than any other team in the AL.

The last time Brett Anderson pitched was on Sept 19 against these Tigers. He was tagged for three runs in 2.1 innings before a strained right oblique injury forced him to leave. Anderson also had Tommy John surgery in July 2011 and missed the first half this year. With his injury history, this development wasn't surprising. When healthy he has terrific upside but he’s always in danger of being one pitch away from re-aggravating something. At some point it gets frustrating and psychologically, it could play on one’s mind. The added pressure of pitching in an elimination game makes Anderson an even bigger risk as the chalk. Break out the brooms.

San Francisco 11-6 the last 3 seasons in the postseason.Starter Bailey threw a no hitter and was very good down the stretch but he remains under .500 and has an e.r.a of 5.13 at home.Take San Francisco to play with some pride and continue to add to that horrible Cincinnati postseason record of 17 years without a win.

CINCINNATI -143 over San Francisco: The Giants offense has taken a Hiatus at the wrong time, while the Reds offense has come alive. Cincy has outscored the Giants 14-2 in the first two games of the series and that was on the road. Now they are at home, but it won't be all that easy as they face Ryan Vogelsong, who is 2-0 with an 0.53 ERA in his last 3 starts. Ryan. though, has struggled with the Reds, going 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA in his last 5 starts vs them. Homer Bailey has struggled for the Reds at home, but he comes in in fine fashion, allowing 2 ER's or less in 6 of his last 7 starts and he hasn't allowed an ER in his last 13 innings. The Giants offense will be their undoing in this one as the Reds complete their 3 game sweep tonight.

Oakland/ Detroit Over 7: Brett Anderson has pitched well for the A's in his 2 home starts this year, posting a 1.38 ERA, but that is a small sample size and in 30 career starts in this park he has a 3.55 ERA. The Tigers have averaged just 3.7 rpg in their last 10 games, but a decent 4.11 rpg on the road. Brett faced Detroit once this year (September) and he allowed 3 ER's in just 2.1 innings of work. For Detroit, they send out Anibal Sanchez, who has pitched well for them, but still has a 3.99 ERA on the road. He also faced the Tigers once this year and allowed 5 ER's in 5.2 innings of work. He will be facing an A's offense that has been hot, putting up 6 rpg in their last 10 games. I expect both offenses to have good showings as this one puts up at least 9 runs.

The San Francisco Giants won't just give in tonight and give the Cincinnati Reds the series. I look for the Giants to extend it with a victory in Game 3 behind the edge they have on the mound in Ryan Vogelsong over Homer Bailey.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Vogelsong is 14-9 with a 3.37 ERA and 1.229 WHIP in 31 starts this season. He has saved his best stuff for last, going 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA and 0.882 WHIP in his last three starts while allowing just one earned run and 15 base runners over 17 innings.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Homer Bailey is 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.240 WHIP in 33 starts this season. He has been tremendous on the road, but his home numbers have been another story. Bailey is 4-8 with a 5.16 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in 17 home starts this season while allowing 21 home runs. He has posted a 5.59 ERA and 1.517 WHIP in five career starts against San Francisco.

The Giants are 7-0 in road games revenging a loss vs opponent as a home favorite this season. San Francisco is 8-1 in road games after scoring 1 run or less this season. The Giants are 4-0 in their last 4 playoff games as an underdog of +110 to +150. The Reds are 1-5 in Bailey's last 6 home starts. Bet the Giants Tuesday.

The first two games of this series went over the number, but I'm taking the under here as I believe we have a pitcher's duel brewing.

San Francisco's Ryan Vogelsong has bounced back from his early September struggles and has been flat out dealing. He has a 0.53 ERA and a 0.882 WHIP over his last 3 starts.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Cincinnati's Homer Bailey hasn't allowed a run in either of his last 2 starts. He has held opponents to 2 runs or fewer in 6 of his last 7 starts.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The Giants are on a 4-0-1 unders run in their last 5 playoffs games on the road. The Reds have been an unders machine. They are on a 22-6-3 unders run in their last 31 games overall, an 11-2-2 unders run in their last 15 home games and a 21-5-3 unders run in their last 29 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5. Bet the Under.

Expect the Reds to close out the series tonight at home where they have won 7 of their last 8 against the Giants. The Giants have been a good road team this season, but the Reds are 12-0 in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Bet the Reds.

The Giants are showing value at this price in this do-or-die spot because of the success they've had on the road. They are 15-6 in their last 21 road games, 7-2 in their last 9 games as a road underdog and 6-2 in their last 8 playoff road games. It's also worth mentioning that the Giants are 10-3 in their last 13 games as an underdog. This team, which won it all in 2010, isn't going down without a fight. Lastly, the Reds are just 1-5 in Bailey's last 6 home starts. Take San Francisco.

San Francisco +133

Each of these teams clinched their Division Titles early with nearly identical records. That's why the 2-0 sweep by the Reds was a bit mystifying. Not only do the Giants bounce back tonight, but they do it in style against Homer Bailey. Bailey pitched a no hitter vs. Pittsburgh on his last trip to this mound, but he is 18-19 lifetime from this mound with a 5.19 ERA. Time for the Bubble to Burst! Cincinnati starter Bailey has been on quite a run including pitching a no hitter vs. Pittsburgh in his last outing on this field. Does his late season momentum continue? Or will the Bubble Burst?
