The Boston Red Sox are done for, and their play is starting to show it on the field. Boston has lost 3 of their last 4, all at home against the Blue Jays and Orioles. Their 2-4 loss to Baltimore last night was uninspiring, and we find it hard to see the Red Sox giving much of an effort tonight. Bradley Bergesen has been awesome of late for the Orioles. Bergesen, who needs one win to surpass his total from his 2009 rookie season, has yielded two runs or fewer in seven of his last nine starts. Bergesen is 1-1 with a 1.74 ERA in his last 3 starts. Clay Buchholz is starting to ware down for Boston. Buchholz is 1-2 with a 5.54 ERA and 1.769 ERA in his last 3 starts. Bergesen has pitched well in 5 career starts against Boston, posting a 3.66 ERA and 1.281 WHIP in those five outings. The Orioles are 11-4 in their last 15 games, yet they are being treated like one of the worst teams in baseball when the fact of the matter is that they are one of the best teams in baseball in September. Take the Orioles on the Money Line.

I know the Rays will be out to avenge last night's loss, but I just can't see the Yankees going down to Shields at home. The Rays are 4-10 in Shields' 14 career starts vs. the Yankees. Plus, they are a very poor 9-24 in his last 33 starts as a road underdog. Meanwhile, the Yankees are a promising 20-7 in Hughes' last 27 starts as a home favorite. Take New York.

Clayton Richard coming off his worst game of the season at Colorado will bounce back in this spot he should be fresh after throwing just 80 pitches. Richard who is 9-3 during his night starts with a 2.64 ERA this season. In 4 game starts in his carer h has a 3.57 ERA vs. the Dodgers which is nothing special, but note the Dodgers without Manny Ramirez are a different offense vs. LHP. Scoring just 3.56 runs per 9 at home vs. LHP in their last 10 just 2.68. Padres on the other hand have been better against Billingsley who has pitched well, but at home he has an ERA over 4 which just won't get it done with a slumping Dodgers offense. Note LA just 2-9 in their last 11 vs. the NL West. I like these odds with the Padres needing this game more.

This one is a SMALL freebie, and we're playing it based largely on the strength of the opening line.

This is the LOWEST posted total for a Nats game in a month, and one of the FEW times we're seeing a total in the 7's without Stephen Strasburg on the hill.

J.A. Happ has dominated the Nats in his short ML career, to the tune of a 3-0 record and ERA under 2. John Lannan has been red hot this month, posting an ERA in the 2's in his last 3 starts, and really using pinpoint control to get the job done.

The bullpens are the point of concern, and the reason we're not putting more on this game. If we can get 6-7 innings out of the starters, we're in decent shape, but middle relief could derail the whole thing.

I do still like the Under, since the Nats aren't hitting, at all, and Lannan appears to be the one starting pitcher that can keep them in the game. They know they need to keep the opponent to 2-3 runs to win, and I believe that's what's on tap.
