Kris Medlen is on fire. He is 5-0 (12-1 on the money line) with an ERA of 3.84 this season, including a perfect 2-0 at home (5-0 on the money line) with an ERA of 2.84. The Braves have won his last 10 starts with 7 of those wins coming by at least 2 runs. Meanwhile, Mike Pelfrey is struggling. The Mets have dropped his last 5 starts with 4 of those losses coming by at least 2 runs. The Braves are a perfect 6-0 in Medlen's starts against teams with a winning record this season, defeating these teams by an average score of 5.2 to 2.8. Take the Braves on the run line.

Philadelphia Phillies @ Florida Marlins
PICK: Florida Marlins

The Phillies have won 10 of their last 12 games and are back in the 'hunt' for a fourth straight NL East title (trail Braves by just two games). The 53-53 Marlins find themselves in fourth-place and are seven games behind Atlanta. The Phillies took the first game of this three-game series last night 6-1 but won't have Roy Halladay on the mound tonight but rather Kyle Kendrick. Kendrick has allowed just one ER in each of his last two starts but he's a modest 6-4 with a 4.44 ERA in his 22 appearances (20 starts) in 2010. The Phillies are an impressive 8-2 in his home starts but just 4-6 in his road starts. The Marlins counter with Anibal Sanchez, who is back healthy in 2010 after making just 32 starts the previous three seasons. He's off a complete game one-hit 5-0 shut out of the Giants in his last outing and has posted a 1.71 ERA in his three starts since the break. He's starting to remind most followers of the team of the pitcher who went 10-3 with a 2.83 ERA in his rookie season of 2006 (including a no-hitter). The Phils are hot but I want Sanchez over Kendrick in this one.

Cubbies on a 0-8 streak and now "Favored - 143 vs the Brewers" Wow that tells you that the Cubbies and Dempster are the right side here early Wednesday! Let's roll out the Cubbies to snap a winless Chi Wrigley streak today, the Odds makers and JR have a bulls-eye on the Cubbies behind the Rock Dempster who is 13-3 with a 2.91 lifetime ERA against the Milwaukee Brewers and 4 /4 the last 4 starts.

We'll take the Angels Wednesday to bounce back from their Game 1 loss to Baltimore, the worst team in baseball at 33-73. Starter Ervin Santana is 10-7 witha 3.65 ERA this season, and he's been especially brilliant on the road. In 10 starts away from home, Santana is 5-4 with a 2.73 ERA. Brian Matusz is 3-11 with a 5.46 ERA this year. Matusz is winless at home, going 0-7 with a 5.55 ERA in 10 starts. the Orioles are 1-9 in Matusz's 10 home starts this year. Worse yet, Matusz is 0-2 with a 12.60 ERA and 2.200 WHIP in his last 3 outings. In his lone career start against Los Angeles, the lefty gave up 4 earned runs and 14 base runners in 5.2 innings to take the loss in a 1-5 setback. Matusz is 0-8 (-8.7 Units) against the money line when working on 5 or 6 days rest this season. Take the Angels on the Money Line.

The Braves are worth a shot on the run line when you consider they have won each of Medlen's last 10 starts, and 7 of those wins have come by 2 or more runs. Plus, the Mets have lost each of Pelfrey's last 5 starts, and 4 of those losses have come by 2 or more runs. I'll take the NL East leaders on the run line with the red hot Medlen on the mound.
