The now-floundering Red Sox will try to avoid a three-game sweep in Arlington when they send young Clay Buchholz (1-0, 1.59 ERA) to the mound against the Rangers. Texas has already beaten John Smoltz and Josh Beckett in this series and they will get to Buchholz.
The Rangers scored a 4-2 win on Tuesday after getting the 6-3 win on Monday night. It's four straight losses for the Red Sox who opened the second half with a 4-1 win in Toronto but have scored three runs or less in the following four games.

Texas is 4-1 against the Red Sox this season, and on further positive streaks of 8-2 at home, 6-0 against A.L. East competition and 5-0 on Wednesdays. Vicente Padilla (7-5, 4.67 ERA) is on the mound for the Rangers and he seems to be in one of those classic "good outing-bad outing" situations pitchers sometimes get stuck in.
Over his last six starts, he's alternated greatness with ugliness. In his ugly starts he's allowed 13 runs in 18 innings. In his good starts he's allowed two runs in 18 innings. Two of the three good starts have been on the road, but one was at home back on June 12 when he held the Dodgers scoreless over five innings of a 6-0 win. Padilla went to Boston on June 7 and held the Sox to three runs (two earned) in seven innigns of a 6-3 victory.

It's a great pitching matchup today for sure as Roy Oswalt has been on-fire of late and Chris Carpenter is great and has been showing it.
But when push comes to shove if I don't have to lay much of anything with Carpenter on the bump and Albert Pujols on my side than I am about the Cardinals. Houston has been playing great and are remarkably in contention for the division but we still have the better hurler and the best hitter on the planet which makes this a go for sure. Plus are the Cards really going to get swept? I say no way!

I give the Astros credit for playing well and staying in this thing but I still do believe that it's St. Louis who is the better team. No doubt Tony LaRussa's squad can have offensive issues at times and probably will not destroy Oswalt today at all but Ludwick, Molina and Ankiel are alright helping Albert and with Carpenter on the hill I don't think that a ton of offense is needed.

I fully expect a pitchers' duel today and two runs may even win this thing. With that said four at bats from Albert and the former Cy Young award winner on my side is enough for me.

The Philadelphia Phillies have now won 10 consecutive games, but we see that streak coming to an end today vs. Carlos Zambrano and the Chicago Cubs.

Zambrano is now 6-4 with a 3.36 ERA for the season, and he has a stellar 2.91 ERA on the road. More importantly, Big Z is in vintage form right now, as he has allowed three earned runs or less in 13 of his last 14 starts, and he allowed only four earned runs in the other outing. As hot as the Phillies are right now, they are still batting a modest .255 vs. right-handed pitchers over the last 10 games, and they are facing a very good one today that could shut them down.
The Phillies counter with the ageless Jamie Moyer, and while he has been pitching better lately, he still has a high 5.58 ERA and 1.41 WHIP on the year, and those numbers are even worse at hitter-friendly Citizens Park, where he owns a lofty 6.79 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. Moyer has not pitched particularly well in his last three starts vs. the Cubs either, allowing 10 earned runs and 26 hits in 15.1 innings while not going more than 5.1 innings in any of those starts.

It is also interesting that the Cubs have almost as many road wins (20) as the Phillies have home wins (24) this year, and we feel that this pitching matchup is so lopsided that the Cubs should notch another road victory and snap the Philadelphia streak.

This pick falls into one of my top MLB systems and we are getting great value tonight with the Tigers at home who are 4-0 in their last four home games against the Mariners. The Mariners are just 11-26 in their last 37 road games against a team with a winning record at home greater than .600 and the Tigers are 8-2 in their last 10 games against a right hand starter. Felix Hernandez (10-3, 2.51) has been lights out this season but Detroit has had a lot of success against him at Comerica Park in the past. The last time Hernandez made a trip to Detroit he allowed 10 hits and 6 earned runs over 5 innings and Detroit had 7 hits and 3 earned runs against Hernandez in Seattle earlier this season. Armando Galarraga (5-8, 5.09) has just 1 career start against the Mariners where he allowed 5 hits and just 1 earned run over 6 innings and I look for him to have a strong outing pitching with 10 days rest. The Tigers are 5-1 in Galarraga's last 6 home starts against a team with a winning record and they are a perfect 5-0 in their last 5 home games when the posted total is 7.0 to 8.5. Take the Detroit Tigers Wednesday night.

Getting Tim Lincecum at this price is pure value. Arguably the best pitcher in baseball, Lincecum rarely can be had at this price and as a matter of fact, this is the first time this season he has been listed as the underdog. He started the season rather slow for his standards but he has now tossed 16 quality outings in his last 17 starts including 11 straight. He has also thrown nine straight quality games on the road with the Giants going 6-3 in those games. He has dominated the Braves throughout his career as he is 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in five starts. This includes eight innings of shutout baseball in the lone meeting this season. Jair Jurrjens counters for the Braves and he is also having a very solid season. He has a 2.77 ERA on the season but only 13 of his 20 starts have been quality performances. That is still a decent percentage but not for a pitcher with that ERA and making matters worse is that Atlanta is just 10-10 in those 20 games. This includes a 3-6 record over his last nine starts as run support is an issue. Atlanta scored 11 runs on two different occasions over this nine-game stretch but the other seven starts have seen just 2.3 rpg and it is safe to say the Braves will not be putting up 11 runs tonight. The Braves are just 1-4 in Jurrjens? last five starts as a home favorite of -110 to -150. This does fall into a great underdog situation as well. Play on all underdogs of less than +150 with a starting pitcher who has winning percentage greater than .700 and has an ERA of 3.00 or better over his last 10 games. This situation is 36-19 (65.5 percent) over the last five seasons and that is a very solid percentage considering the fact that all 65 of those plays are on underdogs.

After wasting a superb effort by one of their young starters on Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox will try to give Carlos Torres more support in his major league debut. Starting for the injured John Danks, Torres takes the mound Wednesday night at U.S. Cellular Field where the White Sox continue their four-game set against a Tampa Bay Rays club making a habit of late-game rallies. Torres, 26, was 8-4 with an International League-best 2.20 ERA in 17 games at Triple-A Charlotte. The right-hander had 98 strikeouts and yielded 72 hits in 98 innings for the Knights. Tampa Bay saved right-hander James Shields (6-6, 3.75 ERA) from a loss Friday when it scored four answered runs in the seventh and eighth innings to defeat the Royals 8-7. Shields, 0-1 with a 4.96 ERA in his last five starts, allowed five runs and seven hits over 7 1-3 innings in a 6-5 win over the White Sox on April 17. Look for CHICAGO to improve to 3-0 (+3.5 units) when playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season!

SD has shown us all that they just can't produce runs or wins for at least the last month. Even a struggling FLA has went into SD and won the first two games of this series. Today FLA goes to Nolasco who is coming of back to back disappointing performances but before those two he had won 5 starts in a row. Today he will throw strikes with confidence to a very weak lineup. If he can get ahead of hitters he will be very good today. We scored with Detroit last night and I'll side with the Tigers again showing excellent value in the home underdog role. Detroit is one of the best home teams in baseball at 28-13 on the year and it has had Seattle's number. The Tigers are 8-2 at home against the M's over the last 3 seasons and, with last night's win, have won 4 straight at home in this series. The M's send their ace to the hill, but the Tigers have been swinging hot bats at home, scoring 5.6 runs per game while the M's are scoring just 4.0 runs per game on the road.
