ANALYSIS: Gonna jump this Friday game now. The Bucks are playing Thursday and I will be 100 percent shocked if they don't rest at least Giannis in the second of a back-to-back if not nearly every starter. The Pistons have been the best ATS team in the NBA for weeks as it is, and it's their home finale so they actually will care and everyone healthy should play. You don't tank in the finale in front of your own fans. Well, maybe the Thunder do.

ANALYSIS: Friday game. Very good chance the Blues win outright, but I've been having success taking good teams when rare home dogs on the puckline to avoid some BS overtime or shootout loss. Probably going to take this angle in the playoffs when nearly every game is decided by one goal it seems. Yep, pretty heavy tax on this one (-220 as of now and will only go up tomorrow; shoot, St. Louis might be favored by the morning) but we'll likely find something tomorrow to play it with and knock it down. The Wild are expected to be without winger Matt Boldy (12G, 15A) and defenseman Matt Dumba (7G, 19A). Bad day to be a Matt! Perhaps I won't walk under a ladder or use a chainsaw for the next 24 hours. Minnesota has dropped five straight in St. Louis. Don't care about the Blues W, just get me to OT.

ANALYSIS: Friday game. Colorado was an absolute ATM on the runline at home last year, so I'm going to keep playing the Rockies (+110 here) as such until they prove to me that 2022 will be different. It will be Kris Bryant's regular-season debut for the Rox. It's Walker Buehler on the mound for LA, and he's my Cy Young pick but had a 4.86 ERA in three Coors Field starts in 2021. I honestly don't care if Colorado wins the game, just lose by one.

ANALYSIS: The White Sox lineup has the highest rating against lefty starters, but Eduardo Rodriguez comes in having beaten the Sox in his last four outings against them while with Boston. The Tigers beat Lucas Giolito in three out of five games last season. It’s going to be chilly at 42 degrees and will likely rain. In spring training, Rodriguez had 19 strikeouts and only two walks over four starts. Back the Tigers.

ANALYSIS: This price is a bit short. Logan Webb went 6-0 with a 1.96 ERA at home last season, while the Marlins' Sandy Alcantara posted a 4.01 ERA on the road. Many are down on the Giants after the departures of Buster Posey and Kevin Gausman, and the injuries to Evan Longoria and LaMonte Wade. But I love the way Gabe Kapler plays matchups and think this team is undervalued again. Look for Webb and Brandon Belt (4 for 8 versus Alcantara with a homer, two doubles and four walks) to spark a Giants' win.

TEXAS @ TORONTO | 04/08 | 7:07 PM EDT
TORONTO -175
ANALYSIS: Weirdly enough, the Blue Jays have actually lost 10 straight games on Opening Day. However, I think that streak ends here. Usually, I don’t play teams just because they’re at home, but this is a different home game. This will be the first actual Toronto Opening Day since 2019 and you know that city is fired up about their team. Blue Jays also swept the Rangers when they played in Toronto last season. Jose Berrios didn’t allow a hit in his first start last season and he pitched a quality start when he faced them last June. Berrios went on a ridiculous run pitching 7 straight quality starts to end the season as well. Rangers haven’t been much better on Opening Day, losing 6 of their last 8 games. They signed Corey Seager and Marcus Semien in the offseason, but they don’t have much depth other than that. Some might think getting away from Coors Field will pay immediate dividends, but Gray was actually worse on the road at 3-7 5.22 ERA last season. His career ERA is also slightly worse on the road. Take the Blue Jays at home.

ANALYSIS: Giants won 107 games last season including going 54-27 at home. Logan Webb is getting his first Opening Day start and he was 11-3 with a 3.03 ERA last season. He was also 6-0 with a 1.96 ERA at home. Webb faced the Marlins in April last season and pitched 7 innings without allowing a run. The Marlins were just 25-56 on the road last season. Sandy Alcantara was very good last season posting a 3.19 ERA, although he somehow went 9-15. He also faced the Giants twice in April last season not pitching particularly well in either game. The Giants had the best record in the league last season yet they are just -140 at home to open the season against a team that didn’t make the playoffs. Take the Giants to win on Opening Day.

TAMPA BAY -150
ANALYSIS: The Lightning have not looked like two-time Stanley Cup champs in a three-game losing streak, but I have to think they can flip a switch at home here in a big game for playoff seeding in the Atlantic Division. The Bolts already catch two breaks in that Boston will be without David Pastrnak (38G, 33A) and defenseman Hampus Lindholm (5G, 21A). The B's are 1-4 in their past five as road dogs and have only won three of their past 10 in Tampa.

ANALYSIS: It absolutely terrifies me that Larry and John are both on the Giants ... but I have to agree. While I do think San Francisco takes a Giant step back this season (see what I did there?) after some major personnel losses this winter, they should win at home against a meh Marlins team. Last year, SF starter Logan Webb morphed into Roger Clemens when pitching at whatever they are calling the Giants' home park these days. Webb threw seven shutout innings in his lone 2021 start against the Fish. Almost impossibly, it's the first time the Giants are opening a season at home since 2009. Miami pitcher Sandy Alcantara was mediocre on the road last year (7-9, 4.01 ERA).

CHI. CUBS +1.5
ANALYSIS: My initial lean was on the Brewers here behind Brandon Woodruff, but he was terrible this spring -- he allowed 16 hits (including a team-high six homers), 15 runs, 14 earned runs and four walks with 12 strikeouts in 11 1/2 innings -- and why would I take Milwaukee at -150 when the Cubs are only -130 on the runline? I still have grave concerns about that Brew Crew lineup. Milwaukee was 1-6 in its final seven last year vs. lefties, and the Cubs start southpaw Justin Steele, who had a good spring with a new-look changeup in his arsenal.

ANALYSIS: I probably will be fading the A's in most road games this season. Their one good pitcher is going today in Frankie Montas (unless he's traded in the next few hours, which is frankly possible), but Oakland's lineup is utter garbage -- dare you to name the cleanup hitter without looking -- so I think we are safe here. The Phillies' lineup should be vastly better this year with the additions of Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos. The Phils hit 32 homers in 20 spring games. Pitcher Aaron Nola was much better at home than on the road last year. This spring, he walked one and struck out 20.

CHI. WHITE SOX @ DETROIT | 04/08 | 1:10 PM EDT
DETROIT +1.5
ANALYSIS: I'm a White Sox fan and think they absolutely can win the pennant. However, they are without All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson and third baseman Yoan Moncada today (see news feed). Moncada isn't that big of a deal (out a few weeks injured) but Anderson (two-game suspension) is because he's the key to that offense. The Pale Hose were basically a .500 team last year without Anderson and 23 games over .500 when in there. Chicago does crush lefties and the Tigers are starting southpaw and new acquisition Eduardo Rodriguez, but, again, Anderson is a big part of that. The Tigers look pretty darn good on paper offensively, especially after landing Austin Meadows in trade earlier this week from Tampa Bay. Chicago pitcher Lucas Giolito was 0-3 with a 5.16 ERA last year against the Tigers and their lineup is way better in 2022.

N.Y. METS @ WASHINGTON | 04/08 | 7:05 PM EDT
N.Y. METS -160
ANALYSIS: The Nationals are a pretty bad team. They lost 97 games last year and haven't done much to improve. They lost Thursday to the Mets, 5-1, and didn't look competitive. Nationals starter Josiah Gray has talent, but he's been very inconsistent thus far in his MLB career. Oh, and Max Scherzer is making his Mets debut in a ballpark in which he's extremely comfortable. Even the Mets can't Mets this one up, right?

1:17 PM

MIAMI @ SAN FRANCISCO | 04/08 | 4:35 PM EDT
SAN FRANCISCO -145
ANALYSIS: While I think the Giants win a lot fewer games than last season, they weren't full on smoke-and-mirrors fake last year. From the front office down, the scouting, development and coaching here is as good as it gets and the Giants extract more talent than their individual players than anyone else. We can start with Logan Webb, who grew into being a bona fide ace last season. The Giants won 18 of his last 20 starts last season. In fact, they won every single game he started in Oracle Park. Stud relievers Tyler Rogers, Jake McGee and the electric Camilo Doval line up behind him. The Marlins won't pose much resistance. Giants win with excellent run prevention.

OAKLAND @ PHILADELPHIA | 04/08 | 3:05 PM EDT
PHILADELPHIA -1.5
ANALYSIS: The only real concern in this one is A's starter Frankie Montas, but he's inconsistent and was terrible in his first start last season. The bullpen isn't good, either, so the thunderous Phillies lineup -- including Opening Day Homer Stud Bryce Harper -- will have plenty of chances to light up the scoreboard. Phillies starter Nola is a much better pitcher at home than on the road and won't have much trouble with what's left of the A's pitiful lineup. It won't be a problem to get a multiple-run victory here on the run line.

1:05 PM

SEATTLE @ MINNESOTA | 04/08 | 4:10 PM EDT
SEATTLE 105
ANALYSIS: Mariners starter Robbie Ray won the Cy Young last season for the Blue Jays and some might worry his season was a fluke. I'm not there. He's always had huge upside (see a glimpse of it in 2017), but the Jays helped him with some mechanical adjustments to fully unlock his beast mode. He'll face a retooled Twins lineup that will still be prone to striking out. Plus, the Mariners' back-end of the bullpen is sneaky-great with Paul Sewald, Drew Steckenrider and Diego Castillo.

WINNIPEG +1.5
ANALYSIS: I don't like this quite as much as I did this morning because the Jets have ruled out Blake Wheeler (54 points), but the Avs are without two of the best offensive players in the NHL in Gabriel Landeskog and Nazem Kadri. They were hoping to get back top-six defenseman Samuel Girard back from injury tonight but that won't happen. It's also the front end of a B2B for Colorado, so Winnipeg should be able to hang within a goal even without Wheeler. The Avs are starting backup Pavel Francouz in net (although he's pretty good). Again, just want overtime then don't care.

TEXAS @ TORONTO | 04/08 | 7:07 PM EDT
TORONTO -160
ANALYSIS: The Jays may have the best home-field advantage in the majors this season because they didn't play in Toronto at all in 2020 or for a big chunk of last year and when so very limited attendance. They should sell out every game this year. Also remember that unvaccinated visiting players can't play in Toronto, although reportedly all the Rangers are good to go. Texas will be better this year with Corey Seager and former Blue Jay Marcus Semien, but the Rangers still don't have much else, especially pitching-wise. New addition and tonight's starter Jon Gray formerly of the Rockies actually was better last year in the thin air of Denver than on the road. He's not a No. 1.

SEATTLE +1.5
ANALYSIS: This is one of those games so close to pick'em that some books have the Twins at +1.5 on the runline and others have the Mariners. Thus the prices vary wildly. I'm pretty high on the Mariners this season and I certainly favor reigning AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray on the mound against Minnesota's Joe Ryan, he of the 26.2 career big-league innings. The SL Projection Model has Seattle winning 4.8-4.7. Who wins is of no importance to me, just be a one-run game.
