PITTSBURGH @ N.Y. RANGERS | 04/08 | 7:00 PM EDT
PITTSBURGH +105
ANALYSIS: The Penguins have allowed 15 goals in their past two games, including an 8-4 loss at New York on Tuesday. The Rangers scored three power-play goals and scored one goal short-handed. Pittsburgh outshot the Rangers 45-20 and won 59 percent of the face-offs. In fact, the Rangers are ranked No. 31 in face-off win percentage this season. Pittsburgh is well-coached and should learn from its past mistakes.

DETROIT @ SACRAMENTO | 04/08 | 10 PM EDT
SACRAMENTO -185
ANALYSIS: Let's just jump on this now as the line may go up a bit as it appears Pistons leading scorer by far Jerami Grant (22.5 ppg) will not play due to a minor injury -- i.e., Detroit tanking. The Kings are on a four-game skid, but they absolutely can't lose to the Pistons at home as they chase a spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament. Detroit is just 6-21 on the road. Again, there's a risk betting this far ahead as perhaps the Kings rule a guy or two out, but sometimes it's an advantage.

BOSTON @ WASHINGTON | 04/08 | 7:00 PM EDT
WASHINGTON -120
ANALYSIS: Getting the excellent Capitals just -120 at home is nice value. They also face a rookie netminder in Boston's Jeremy Swayman, who stopped 40 shots in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Philadelphia during his NHL debut. Beating Washington is a lot different. The B's again will be without top defenseman Charlie McAvoy (22 points) due to injury. The Caps go with Ilya Samsonov (9-2-1, 2.87), who has a 1.77 GAA in four home starts. Boston has won only eight of its past 28 in D.C.
BOSTON @ BALTIMORE | 04/08 | 3:05 PM EDT
BALTIMORE +1.5
ANALYSIS: The last time the Orioles played in front of fans at Camden Yards was Sept. 22, 2019. Around 11,000 will be allowed for Baltimore's home opener. The Birds swept three games at Fenway last week and will start reclamation project Matt Harvey. He took a no-decision in Boston last week, allowing two runs and six hits over 4.2 innings. It's lefty Eduardo Rodriguez for the Sox, and he missed all of last season due to myocarditis. Rodriguez was originally scheduled to start Opening Day before coming down a "dead arm" late in spring training. Thus, he may not be out there long and Baltimore, which is 5-2 in its past seven vs. a lefty, is solid value at -118 on the runline at home.
MIAMI @ N.Y. METS | 04/08 | 1:10 PM EDT
N.Y. METS -182
ANALYSIS: Not many games "matter" to players in the grind that is the 162-game MLB regular season, but home openers do and this is the Mets' first at home. It will be their first time playing in front of Citi Field fans (about 8,500) since 2019 and also of course Francisco Lindor's home debut. New York starts Taijuan Walker, who had a combined 2.70 ERA last year with the Mariners and Blue Jays. Only a few Marlins have faced him. Miami's is down a couple starting pitchers due to injury and will reportedly turn to Nick Neidert. He pitched 8.1 innings last year as a rookie in relief -- thus probably will not be out there long -- with a 5.40 ERA. The Marlins have won just six of their past 22 at the Mets.

PORTLAND @ UTAH | 04/08 | 10:00 PM EDT
UTAH -6
ANALYSIS: The Jazz shot 25 percent from 3-point range in their intense overtime loss at Phoenix yesterday. I think they'll shoot much better against a Trail Blazers team that struggles defensively. Portland is more rested, but has not been able to hang with elite teams lately. With Utah on a two-game skid, back the Jazz to bounce back and cover.

UNDER 204
ANALYSIS: This is one of the lowest totals of the season, but low-total games have been such for a reason. Games with totals under 210 this season are 1-19-2 OU. The low total in this game is warranted. Miami is coming off a 124-112 loss Memphis as a favorite. The Heat are 0-6 OU (-14.08 ppg) off a loss as a favorite. Miami shot 53.7 in that game and still got defeated soundly. The Heat are 0-6 OU (-9.92 ppg) coming off a 10-plus point loss as a favorite in which they shot 50 percent or better from the field.

CHICAGO @ TORONTO | 04/08 | 7:30 PM EDT
CHICAGO -4
ANALYSIS: The Bulls finally broke their six-game losing streak with back-to-back wins over the Nets and Pacers. They weren’t exactly noteworthy wins, though, with both teams shorthanded because of injuries. The Bulls will be looking at a similar situation with Kyle Lowry (foot) and Fred VanVleet (hip) out for the Raptors, so look for Chicago to capitalize with another win, while covering along the way.

OAKLAND @ HOUSTON | 04/08 | 8:10 PM EDT
HOUSTON -145
ANALYSIS: The Astros swept four games in Oakland to open the season, scoring at least eight runs in each win. Houston has the pitching edge again Thursday with Cristian Javier facing Cole Irvin, who has a career 6.89 ERA. In his first matchup with Houston, Irvin allowed seven hits and four runs in 4.1 innings. This line should be steeper.

HOUSTON -145
ANALYSIS: The Athletics are coming off their first win of the season, and it took a comeback plus extra innings to do it. The Astros just swept them in Oakland and they are hitting right now, while the As simply are not. The Astros love hitting lefties and both these teams faced the starting pitcher earlier in the week, so that would likely give the advantage to the hitters. The Astros have been much better at home, take the value in the Astros.

WASHINGTON -120
ANALYSIS: The Caps are tied for the lead in their division and they are coming off a tough 1-0 loss at the Islanders where they played well. The Bruins seem to have trouble winning back to back games and the Caps are 13-4-2 at home this season. The last time these teams faced each other was when Tom Wilson knocked Brandon Carlo out, but both players are back now. The Caps are 19-4 in their last 24 games straight up against the Bruins, take the value in the Caps at home.
NASHVILLE @ DETROIT | 04/08 | 7:30 PM EDT
UNDER 5.5
ANALYSIS: These two teams combined for five goals in the first game of this matchup, and both teams have starting goalies playing very well right now. The Red wings average 2.4 goals per game at home while the Predators average 2.3 goals per game on the road. Take the value in the under.

MILWAUKEE @ ST. LOUIS | 04/08 | 4:15 PM EDT
ST. LOUIS +1.5
ANALYSIS: I frankly think the Cardinals may win this game outright, but I'll take -145 on the runline just in case. It's the St. Louis home debut of Nolan Arenado, and he's hitting .360 with a homer and three RBIs in the early going. Milwaukee is favored simply because of starting pitcher Corbin Burnes, who took a no-hitter into the seventh of his opener vs. Minnesota and struck out 11 but ended up losing. Burnes had a 4.32 in two starts last year vs. the Cards. It's veteran Adam Wainwright for St. Louis, his sixth career home opening start. He was definitely bad last Saturday in Cincinnati, but the Reds are killing everyone. The Cards have won four straight series openers.
MILWAUKEE @ DALLAS | 04/08 | 9:00 PM EDT
DALLAS -105
ANALYSIS: Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as doubtful, and I was going to wait until the 5:30 p.m. NBA injury report update on him and whether the Mavs' Kristaps Porzingis is going to play the second of a back-to-back, but the Unicorn isn't on the first injury report so apparently he will play. Once the Freak is officially ruled out, the Mavs will become favorites (some offshores are moving the spread in that direction). We will assume he's not playing and take this now at better value. Disregard the Mavs' ugly loss in Houston on Wednesday -- I recommended the Rockets -- as it was a major trap game.

CLEVELAND @ OKLAHOMA CITY | 04/08 | 8:00 PM EDT
CLEVELAND -3.5
ANALYSIS: The Thunder are in full tank mode right now. They’ve lost seven of their last eight games, with each defeat coming by at least nine points. Five of those losses were by 15 or more points. The Cavaliers will be without Jarrett Allen (concussion), but with Collin Sexton, Darius Garland and Kevin Love all expected to play, they should have enough talent to cover.
