Thursday MLB Sharp Report
6:05 p.m. ET: Atlanta Braves (44-32) at Philadelphia Phillies (39-37)
The Braves have taken the first two games of this NL East grudge match, winning the opener 5-3 as +110 road dogs and then winning again on Wednesday 4-1 as -140 road favorites. In tonight's series finale, Atlanta hands the ball to righty Ian Anderson (6-4, 4.60 ERA) and Philadelphia counters with fellow righty Aaron Nola (4-5, 2.98 ERA). This line opened with the Phillies listed as a -125 home favorite and the Braves a +110 road dog. Pros have gotten down hard on the Phillies to avoid the sweep, steaming Philadelphia up from -125 to -150. The Phillies are 25-21 as a favorite. The Braves are 6-11 as a dog. Anderson has an ERA of 5.06 in the month of June while Nola sits at 2.00. We could be looking at a lower scoring game as the total is 8.5 with the under juiced to -115. When the total is 8.5 or higher, the under is 310-261 (54%) this season.
6:10 p.m. ET: New York Yankees (56-20) at Houston Astros (47-27)
These are the two best teams in the American League and both are playingwell as of late (both 7-3 in their last 10 games). The Yankees just swept the Athletics at home while the Astros just swept a short two game series against the Mets on the road. In tonight's series opener, New York starts righty Luis Severino (4-2, 3.38 ERA) and Houston taps fellow righty Luis Garcia (5-5, 3.68 ERA). This line opened at virtual pick'em with both sides listed at roughly -110. Respected money has pounced on the best team in baseball at a short price, steaming the Yankees up from -110 to -120. Non-division road favorites are 143-74 (66%) this season. New York is 52-19 as a favorite, 22-11 on the road and 38-13 against righties. The Yankees also have correlative betting value as a favorite in a low total game (8). The Astros could be shorthanded as star slugger Yordan Alvarez left yesterday's game after a collision with teammate Jeremy Pena.
10:10 p.m. ET: Oakland Athletics (25-52) at Seattle Mariners (36-41)
These AL West rivals are trending in opposite directions. The Athletics are 2-7 over their last nine games and just got swept on the road at the Yankees. Meanwhile, the Mariners are 7-2 over their last nine games and just took two of three at home against the Orioles. In tonight's series opener, Oakland hands the ball to righty Adrian Martinez (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and Seattle taps fellow righty Logan Gilbert (8-3, 2.44 ERA). This line opened with the Mariners listed as a hefty -200 home favorite and the Athletics a +185 road dog. Sharps aren't scared off by the expensive chalk price and have steamed the Mariners up from -200 to -210. Home favorites -200 or more are 115-45 (72%) this season. Seattle also has correlative betting value as a big favorite in a low total game (7.5). The Athletics are just 20-43 as a dog, 17-24 on the road and 17-35 against righties. The Mariners are 18-11 as favorites, and 31-28 against righties. Seattle leads the season series 4-2. The Mariners will lean on their bats, hitting .232 compared to .210 for the Athletics. Seattle is 5-2 in Gilbert's last six starts.

MILWAUKEE @ PITTSBURGH | 06/30 | 7:05 PM EDT
MILWAUKEE -120
ANALYSIS: The Brewers have won four straight and nine of 12 overall as they visit Pittsburgh for the start of a four-game series. They're 6-0 against the Pirates this season and sport a five-game win streak in Pittsburgh. Adrian Houser has been shaky this year with a 4.50 ERA but has a strong history versus Pittsburgh, including a 2.25 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP in his last five matchups. The Brewers rank sixth in OPS against right-handers (.736), while the Pirates rank 26th (.660). Lay the reasonable price.

Cubs -118 (DOUBLE DIME PLAY)
Laying a short price against the Reds on the road rarely is a bad thing even when the home team is the Cubs.
Cincinnati is 14-25 on the road this season. The Reds are 3-9 in their last 12 games.
The Cubs are 4-3 in their last seven games. During this span they are averaging 6.2 runs a game.
So I feel confident backing the Cubs here. The pitching matchup is Reds rookie Graham Ashcraft versus crafty veteran Kyle Hendricks.
Ashcraft has been impressive with a 4-1 record and 3.27 ERA. He limited the Giants to two runs in eight innings during his previous start this past Friday. Prior to that, however, Ashcraft was battered for 10 earned runs in his two previous starts spanning 9 2/3 innings. During that two-game time frame, Ashcraft gave u—p 17 hits, two walks and two homers.
Hendricks also is coming off an excellent start. He threw 7 1/3 shutout innings against the Cardinals this past Friday. Hendricks' night ERA is a respectable 3.78.
The weather forecast is for the wind to be blowing out at 10-13 mph. The savvy, experienced Hendricks is better equipped to deal with these elements than Ashcraft, who has never pitched at tricky Wrigley Field.

N.Y. YANKEES @ HOUSTON | 06/30 | 6:10 PM EDT
N.Y. YANKEES -130
ANALYSIS: No Michael Brantley, Jeremy Pena, or Yordan Alvarez today for the Astros. This is a weird one game series so the only thing that worries me is the Yankees resting players or flying twice in two days. However, Luis Garcia is 3-2 with a 5.18 ERA at home this season and the Astros bullpen couldn't get a save for the life of them against the Yankees last series. Luis Severino just pitched a quality start against the Astros but will have a watered down lineup tonight. Im not going to overthink this one.
ATLANTA @ PHILADELPHIA | 06/30 | 6:05 PM EDT
PHILADELPHIA -160
ANALYSIS: I like the Phillies to avoid the home sweep here behind their ace. Aaron Nola has looked like himself again and the Phillies have their full bullpen available. Kenley Jansen is still unavailable for the Braves and Ian Anderson is coming off a tough start. He should struggle again against a Phillies team that has seen him in division play. He also has multiple walks in seven of his last eight games. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see the Braves give a player or two the day off. Take the Phillies at home.

TAMPA BAY @ TORONTO | 06/30 | 7:07 PM EDT
TORONTO -143
ANALYSIS: Jeez, anything going on in sports today? USC/UCLA to Big Ten, Kevin Durant to Heat or Suns (most likely -- see news feed). Just waiting on Deshaun Watson suspension news to break to complete the trifecta -- although knowing the NFL, that will be a Friday 4:56 p.m. ET news dump. Had no interest in this matchup if Jeffrey Springs (2.25 ERA) was starting for the Rays as was thought to happen, but he was placed on the family medical emergency list and now it will be Matt Wisler serving as an opener and Ryan Yarbrough (0-3, 5.65) as the bulk guy. Not a Yarbrough fan and he's been in Triple-A for three-plus weeks. Not a big fan of Toronto's Yusei Kikuchi (2-4, 5.08), either, but now I do think the Jays win at home. Tampa is also down two relievers on the restricted list and one of the team's better hitters, Ji-Man Choi, is on the bench. The Rays are 2-8 in road series openers and have lost six straight.
N.Y. YANKEES @ HOUSTON | 06/30 | 6:10 PM EDT
N.Y. YANKEES -128
ANALYSIS: I don't recommend betting against the Astros at home often, but as I expected both Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena are out of the lineup (see news feed) after they collided on Wednesday -- plus, remember, Michael Brantley is on the injured list. The Yankees clearly have the better lineup today and also should have the "Luis" pitching edge with Severino over Garcia.
