Tuesday 4/20/21 thread for handicapping service plays and expert predictions for NBA, MLB & NHL games

ANAHEIM @ LOS ANGELES | 04/20 | 10:00 PM EDT
LOS ANGELES -141
ANALYSIS: My model says the Kings win in over 60 percent of the simulations, so you're getting strong value with them at this number. Los Angeles will be well-rested, as it has been idle since Wednesday after its two-game weekend series at Colorado was shelved due to COVID-19 protocols involving the Avalanche. The Kings defeated Anaheim in their most recent matchup after losing the first two meetings of the season and will face the Ducks five times over their next seven games. Look for Los Angeles to draw first blood on Tuesday.
ARIZONA @ CINCINNATI | 04/20 | 6:40 PM EDT
CINCINNATI -131
ANALYSIS: My model says the Reds win in over 60 percent of the simulations, so you're getting strong value with them at this number. Cincinnati has been one of the better teams at home in the early going and will be looking to bounce back from a loss to Cleveland on Sunday that ended its seven-game winning streak at Great American Ball Park. The Diamondbacks are just 4-7 on the road after splitting their four-game series at Washington over the weekend. Expect the Reds to get back to their winning ways at home on Tuesday.

L.A. DODGERS @ SEATTLE | 04/20 | 4:10 PM EDT
SEATTLE +1.5
ANALYSIS: Thanks oddsmakers for putting Seattle as a +105 home dog on the runline a second straight game in this series. We backed the Mariners on Monday and they beat the Dodgers 4-3. Now, the M's have their ace pitcher on the mound in lefty Marco Gonzales (although he has been very uneven so far in 2021) and probably won't have to deal with arguably the second-best player in MLB in Mookie Betts. He was hit by a pitch late in Monday's game and clearly hurting and thus almost surely gets this quick turnaround game off. Seattle didn't activate 2020 AL Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis from the injured list Monday but is expected to today and start him.

CHARLOTTE @ NEW YORK | 04/20 | 7:30 PM EDT
NEW YORK -5.5
ANALYSIS: Not only have the Knicks won six straight games, but they have covered the spread in nine straight. They have a sparkling 18-10 record ATS at home, which includes going 10-2 ATS as a home favorite. With the Hornets still missing LaMelo Ball (wrist), Gordon Hayward (foot) and Malik Monk (ankle), look for the Knicks to continue their excellent performance at home.

N.Y. METS @ CHI. CUBS | 04/20 | 7:40 PM EDT
CHI. CUBS +1.5
ANALYSIS: The Cubs are good value at -159 on the runline because they could easily win what should be a low-scoring game -- low-scoring games often end in one-run margins -- with cold weather (may actually snow a bit but is expected to be played), two good starting pitchers and two struggling offenses. The Cubs are last in the majors in batting average and the Mets are in homers with just six in 11 games. Cubs starter Jake Arrieta (2-1, 3.18) went 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA in two starts vs. New York in 2020 while with the Phillies. New York's Taijuan Walker (0-0, 2.61) hasn't faced the Cubs in four years. Chicago has won 16 of the past 21 in the series.

N.Y. RANGERS @ N.Y. ISLANDERS | 04/20 | 7:00 PM EDT
N.Y. ISLANDERS -120
ANALYSIS: The Islanders apparently will welcome back one key player in winger Josh Bailey, who had missed the past two with an injury. He has 25 points in 43 games. It's the sixth meeting of the season between these rivals and the Islanders lead 3-2. The Isles have just four total losses at home, two in regulation. When the Islanders score first anywhere this year, they are 19-1-2. The Blueshirts are 5-13 in their last 18 games as road underdogs. Rangers starting netminder Igor Shesterkin is 0-2-1 with a 3.00 GAA vs. NYI.

HOUSTON @ COLORADO | 04/20 | 8:40 PM EDT
COLORADO +1.5
ANALYSIS: Houston had to scratch Lance McCullers Jr. from his start and will go with Luis Garcia (0-0, 2.35). The 24-year-old has just 20 innings of big-league experience and has never pitched in the thin air of Denver, so I'll take the Rox at -150 on the runline behind Jon Gray (1-1, 2.87). He can overpower any lineup if he can keep his control. Gray has given up just two combined runs in 11.2 home innings this season. Houston may get Alex Bregman off the COVID list here, but won't have the DH (Yordan Alvarez, who was also just cleared) or former league MVP Jose Altuve (not cleared yet)
