The Duke's Sports

Washington +110 2 Units

Milwaukee/Washington 7:35: We like the Nationals in this spot where they're 7-1 as a small home dog. Washington will have Odalis Perez on the hill; he's coming off three shaky road outings, but he's solid at home (2.66 ERA); moreover, Perez controls a 5-1 team mark with a 3.05 ERA in 6 starts vs Milwaukee. Milwaukee counters with Jeff Suppan who has been shaky on the road (25 ER in 31 2/3 IP). And the Brewers' bullpen has been suspect lately (5.93 ERA last 10). The light hitting Nationals should be able to drive in some runs tonight. Milwaukee dropped 7 of their last 10 in Washington and we'll fade them here.

Toronto -142 1 Unit

Kansas City/Toronto 7:07: The Blue Jays are 13-5 at home vs KC since 2003 and we'll stay on Toronto with their horse - Halladay back on the hill. Well rested Roy Halladay should breeze by a KC lineup that is worse than Toronto driving in runs (3.77 rpg). Toronto is 9-3 in their last 12 w/ Halladay on the hill vs KC. And KC is a mere 1-4 after allowing 10 or more runs, 9-16 after a loss, and just 2-9 in their last 11 Friday tilts. Zack Greinke is a quality hurler but he's probably not going to go the distance, thus involving the KC bullpen that has been giving up runs easily nowadays. Moreover, he is most likely not going to get the needed run support. Toronto the call.

LEE KOSTROSKI

Dallas Desperados @ Orlando Predators
PICK: Dallas Desperados

This is a key battle in the playoff race in the National Conference and we fully expect the Desperados to come up with a very strong effort this week. Dallas lost a shocker at home last week to Arizona and this ended a 17-game regular-season home win streak for the Desperados. Dallas appeared to overlook the Rattlers and, as a result, they got caught looking ahead to this match-up with a solid Predators team. It was easy for the Desperados to overlook a subpar Arizona club and start focusing on this bigger game with Orlando. As it turned out, it cost Dallas the game last week.

One advantage they have this week is an extra day of rest compared with Orlando. While the Desperados played on Saturday the Predators played on Sunday. That means this is a very short turnaround for Orlando and we feel it will end up being too short! Orlando has been surging and the Predators are a team with a lot of experience and resiliency. However, Orlando doesn't have a lot of “big play” personnel on their roster.

Also, we feel their secondary could be exposed by Dallas here as we’re not sure that they’re going to be quick enough to keep up. Dallas is ranked second in scoring defense and just doesn't give up a lot of big plays. The Desperados are quite likely to force QB Shane Stafford into mistakes by forcing him to get rid of the ball early. The Dallas defense does a good job of making opposing offenses work very hard on every possession. Look for the key in this match-up to be the Desperados pass rush.

As eluded to above, on the other side of the ball, Orlando's secondary is not a great match-up group as they just can not keep up in one-on-one coverages. The team that is likely to have the better defensive performance and the more intense performance is going to win this one. That team is Dallas as they come in fired up after last week’s loss and the fact that we also get them plus the points is adding value to this play as well.

Johnny Guild

San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers

Don't think the Spurs will repeat Game 1 second half diminish performance. Look for the Spurs to be more aggressive tonight and play very tough defense on Kobe. San Antonio doesn’t want to be down 2-0 to the Lakers. This will be a close fight. Take the points!

San Antonio Spurs + 6.5

NBA Basketball
Spurs/Lakers Under 192
The Lakers live at the foul line. The Spurs do not foul. San Antonio has a great defense that can contain Kobe. The Lakers are horrible on defense, but have shown some signs of life over the past three games. The Lakers will not be able to score as much because the clock will be running. The Spurs have not shown me that they can play on the road other than the game seven win in New Orleans which could have been more the Hornets nerves as a young unit then San Antonio actually playing great. For some reason this Spurs team fades offensively in the second half. Look for both teams to play solid defense sending this under the total.
