Tom Stryker Guaranteed Selections

Philadelphia vs Texas Over 10.5

Yes, I am well aware of the fact that the Phillies have scored a grand total of 15 runs in their last eight games. However, Philadelphia stars Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are champing at the bit right now to get their bats on track and they'll find success at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Phillies right-hander Brett Myers will help this total selection too. A veteran out of Jacksonville, Florida, Myers has struggled in his last three starts. Facing the Angels, Cardinals and Marlins, Brett has been ripped for 15 earned runs and 21 hits in 19.0 innings of work. That breaks down to a dismal 0-2 record and a lofty 7.11 ERA. Foreign soil has been trouble for Mr. Myers too. As a guest, No. 39 has been smacked for 38 earned runs and 67 hits in 45.1 frames. That adds up to a shocking 0-6 record and an escalated 7.54 ERA!

Texas southpaw Kason Gabbard will certainly assist in this over investment as well. In his last three trips to the bump against Washington, New York (Mets) and Tampa Bay, Gabbard was tagged for 11 earned runs and 19 hits in 15.1 innings. That adds up to a nasty 1-2 record and an ugly 6.46 ERA!

Coming off a straight up loss, Texas has gone over the total in 21 of its last 29 tries (1 tie). Meanwhile, Philadelphia has soared over the mark in five of its last six on the Interleague road battling a lefty. There will be plenty of offense in this contest. Take the OVER.

Erin Renning Free Play

Milwaukee Brewers at Minnesota Twins

Two of the hottest teams around square off in this interleague rivalry in the Metrodome with a match-up between the Twins and Brewers. Nick Blackburn is expected to toe the rubber for the Twins. I’ve backed him quite often this season with favorable results as he continues to fly a bit under the radar like his team in general. He features a sinker/cutter combination, which fits against this heavy right-hander power hitting Milwaukee club. Scouts have talked favorably about Blackburn having the best stuff on this starting staff, while maybe more importantly he commands it as well. There was some trepidation with Blackburn recently, while a recent start was pushed back with a little elbow stiffness. However, he was on his game last weekend against Arizona and he mentioned how good he felt after the game. Blackburn has been especially tough at home with a 2.20 ERA. Meanwhile, Seth McClung is slated to take the start for the Brewers. McClung looks like another solid rebuilding job by respected pitching coach Mike Maddux. His last four starts have been rather impressive, while allowing just seven earned runs with a 19/6 SO/BB ratio. However, this will be the Twins second look at him in the last two weeks and McClung doesn’t own the wide array of stuff to differentiate his pitches. Look for the Twins to bag another National League win tonight. I split my bet up between the 5-inning and game line.

SouthCoast Sports

Arizona D-Backs vs. Florida Marlins
Pick: Florida Marlins

Florida's Ricky Nolasco will be getting the start against the Diamondbacks on Friday night. Nolasco has pitched well recently, giving up 3 or less runs in eight of his last nine starts. His success has spilled over to the Marlins as a team, with them winning 6 of his last 7 starts. Nolasco has been successful against the Diamondbacks in the past, holding them to a .173 batting average, while maintaining a low 2.51 Era against the Diamondbacks offense. Micah Owings will be getting the start for the Diamondbacks. Owings has made it to the 6th inning only once over his last 4 starts. The Diamondbacks have lost 4 of his last 5 starts, and he has struggled against the Florida offense in past outings. The Marlins are hitting .310 against Owings and he has a 6.30 Era against them careerwise. The Marlins are desperate for a win, and have played well at home in the past, while the Diamondbacks have lost 5 of their last 6 road games, while managing to score only 6 runs over their last 3 games. Take the Florida Marlins -113 for 3-Units!

Bobby Williams

LAA Angels vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Pick: LAA Angels Play

Yes this is a rivalry for bragging rights in LA. But the Angels are sending ace Joe Saunders to the mound and that provides them quite an edge. He is 11-3, real close to 7 innings every night, 3.18 ERA, two K's for every walk, strong 1.12 WHIP and only is being hit at a .236 average. His opponent Park has been used primarily in relief, only two starts, one 5 innings the other 4, and will just try to hand it off if he can get to the 5th. More importantly, Saunders is better on the road (6-1 1.89 ERA) than he is at home (5-2, 3.65 ERA), and is a sweet 3-1 in June. Angels are by far the best road team in baseball at 26-13, and Dodgers barely over .500 at home 20-19. Take LA ANGELS and win Friday
