BALL STATE over NAVY by 3

Ball State head coach Brady Hoke has his sights set on a MAC Championship, which the team lacks since he got there. But last time anyone looked, Navy was an Independent. Always-effective Navy senior QB Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada missed last Saturday's season opener against Towson, which gave senior Jarod Bryant 29 minutes of clock time to trigger 602 rushing yards in the frustrating option. Both Navy QBs played in last season?s meeting in Annapolis, which was tied 31-31 at the end of 60 minutes, with each team topping 500 offensive yards. Navy?s defense is a little older and much healthier now than it was then, and when they take it up the middle on offense, the new clock rules of ?08 will enable them to let it bleed and eventually deny some time to the Ball boys when the productive home team offense gets its chance to play with the piggie. BALL STATE, 34-31.

PREFFERED PLAY

Ball State* over Navy by 3

The Cardinal passing game is too much for a slow Navy secondary, and the State defense can not handle the Midshipmen option attack. That combination led to a 34-31 thriller for Ball State at Annapolis last year, when both sides easily topped 500 yards here, and this is more of the same, though the Navy QB situation does bear watching. BALL STATE 34-31

POINTWISE

Navy 38 - BALL STATE 34

Both in off pulverizing lesser lights, with Middies another eye-popping 558 RYs highlighted by White's school-record 348 yds. So a successful debut for Niumatalolo. But that Navy "D" cannot be trusted (41 ppg 11 of last 12 lined games), & 10 starters return from Cards' 30th ranked "O". Check Davis' 21-of-24 & 3 TDs in opener, with RB Lewis a good one

BOS (-135) vs TEX
Play 1* Boston

Boston is 44-14 this year when playing against a team with a losing record. Boston bullpen has a 3.74 ERA overall this year. Josh Beckett has a 3.17 ERA on the road this season. Boston is 18-8 overall vs Texas last 3 years including a perfect 7-0 overall vs Texas this season. Red Sox are 20-8 in Becketts last 28 road starts. We'll recommend a small play on Boston tonight

Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays
Play: Toronto Blue Jays -180

The Jays have won five straight, taking the last two at Yankee Stadium before sweeping three at home over the Twins. Now Toronto, 40-29 at home, sends their ace, Roy Halladay, to the mound. Halladay owns a 2.86 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and .271 OOBP in 12 home starts this season. Halladay is in excellent current form, posting 19 K's and just 2 BB's in his last three starts (20 innings). The Blue Jays are 45-14 in Halladay's last 59 home starts. Toronto is also 8-3 in Halladay's last 11 starts vs. the Rays. Halladay lost his only home start against the Rays this year, so I expect him to rectify that this time out.

Tampa Bay has been mediocre (32-32) on the road this season. Andy Sonnanstine is "on the bump" for the Rays tonight. He has struggled lately, posting a 7.20 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and .380 OOBP in his last three starts. In those last three starts, Sonnanstine allowed five homers and 21 hits in just 15 innings, with 4 BB's and just 6 K's. The Rays won in Sonnanstine's last start in Toronto (5/6/08) despite allowing 4 runs on 10 hits in 6 innings. The Rays are 1-4 in Sonnanstine's last 5 road starts.

Take Toronto

1 Unit on Astros +143

We'll take the red hot Astros showing great value in the underdog role tonight. The Astros have won 20 of their last 27 games, are 6-0 in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing record, 10-1 in their last 11 vs. a team with a losing record, and 5-1 in their last 6 road games. The Astros are 6-1 in Moehler's last 7 starts and 4-0 in Moehler's last 4 starts vs. the National League West. Bet the Astros.

Jeff Alexander Sports

1 Unit on NY Yankees -155

The Yankees have been winning on the road and that shouldn't stop tonight against a Seattle team that they have been dominating. The Yankees are 8-0 in the last 8 meetings in the matchup and 6-1 in their last 7 road games. The Yanks are a perfect 6-0 in their last 6 road games vs. a right-handed starter and they should have no problem putting runs on the board against Brandon Morrow, who will be making his first MLB start tonight. Take the Yankees.

Oakland vs. Kansas City
Play: Kansas City

This is the second game of today?s doubleheader between the teams. We were on the Royals in Tuesday?s opener and they responded in kind with a pretty easy 5-2 win. We noted that day that Oakland is one team that Kansas City matches up well against because the A?s have an abundance of lefties in their starting rotation and the Royals sport a winning record vs. southpaws this season (26-20). Oakland?s Dan Meyer still has no wins in 16 career starts and the A?s have been outscored 30-10 in his last three starts. Take Kansas City.
