Home Run Derby Odds to Win

The 2009 Home Run Derby takes place Monday, July 13 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and Cardinals’ slugger Albert Pujols has been made the opening favorite.

It makes sense that oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING would make Pujols a 12/5 favorite to win this year’s Home Run Derby. He leads the league in dingers with 32 at the break, which is a whopping eight home runs more than both Carlos Pena, Adrian Gonzalez and Mark Reynolds, who each have 24 long shots.

Some players with favorable odds after Pujols are Ryan Howard (11/4) of the Phillies, Prince Fielder (15/4) of the Brewers, Pena (11/2) of the Rays and Gonzalez (11/2) of the Padres. Pena and Gonzalez each have 24 dingers, while Howard and Fielder each have 22.

Some intriguing long shots to consider are Nelson Cruz of the Rangers, Brandon Inge of the Tigers and Joe Mauer of the Twins. Cruz has 22 dingers this season and is currently listed at 8/1 to win. Inge, who is 11/1 to win, and Mauer, who is 6/1 to win, each have 21 home runs.

Mauer’s teammate Justin Morneau won the 2008 Derby after outlasting Josh Hamilton 5-3 in the Finals Round, even though Hamilton put on an absolute show in Round 1, blasting 28 dingers. Neither Morneau nor Hamilton will compete in this year’s derby, however.

The 2009 Home Run Derby takes place Monday, July 13 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis at 8:00 p.m. ET. For complete odds on all of the players hitting in his year’s derby, see below.
