Line Moves – Crucial Betting Info
By Doug Upstone
Only nine games in Major League baseball this Monday, as a few wraparound series wrap up, while others start anew. Three games in particular have seen numbers pushed around by the sports betting public. One game we won’t talk about is the Lines Moves on Boston and the New York Yankees, since there were other reasons why the Red Sox went from a favorite to underdog, besides public perception.
Chic. White Sox at Baltimore 7:05 EDT
The White Sox are seeking a split against suddenly battling Baltimore, which would boost morale and confidence, since six of the next nine contests are versus Minnesota, who is chasing them down in the AL Central. Edwin Jackson (7-10, 4.97 ERA) has a no-hitter with Arizona and a sharp first-time performance with Chicago, but online sports betting fans are not sold. The Pale Hose were -149 on the overnight money line and have sunk to -135 or lower. Baltimore is playing “Buck-Ball” with their new skipper Buck Showalter more meticulous about details and the team has responded with 5-1 record. The White are still providing good pitching and are 17-4 after allowing four runs or less three straight games, nevertheless, O’s starter Brian Matusz is 10-5 (+11.3 Units) in the second half of the season over the last two seasons. Arizona at Milwaukee 8:10 EDT
Two below average NL clubs open up a four-game series in Milwaukee, each trying to build on recent improved play. Arizona won series vs. first place San Diego over the weekend and is 7-4 in last 11 outings. The Brewers swept a Houston club that had been playing well and is on 5-1 sprint. Oddsmakers had Milwaukee was -129 money line choice at sunrise and with the dawning of another day, they’ve been bet up to -141 or higher. There is ample evidence for the Brew Crew to be chosen by baseball bettors. They have won seven straight over the D-Backs, who are 15-37 away from the desert. The Snakes are 12-25 having won two of their last three games and with baseball’s worst bullpen, they are 3-15 the bullpen was hit hard for four or more runs this season.
Chic. Cubs at San Francisco 10:15 EDT
The total on this NL matchup has tumbled to 7.5 from opening 8. This looks to be more a reflection of the Cubs potential lack of offense, especially on the road, where they are 12-2 UNDER as visitors after six or more consecutive home games. Yet it still seems the wagering masses are giving Chicago starter Carlos Zambrano too much credit. Big Z has lost enough on the fastball to be more hittable and the breaking pitches too often spin like a cement-mixer and are laced for hits. The Giants haven’t hit much lately and are 13-2 OVER in home games after batting .225 or worse over a 10-game span. Maybe this contest falls below the number, but with San Fran 16-7 OVER playing against a bland team (win percentage 38% to 46%) this season.
