Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox have reportedly agreed in principle to a deal with free-agent third baseman Mike Lowell.
According to the Boston Globe, the framework of a three-year deal is in place for Lowell to remain with the World Series champions.
The 33-year-old Lowell was reportedly being courted by at least one other team -- possibly the New York Yankees -- willing to offer a four-year deal. The three-year deal is worth in the range of $36-$38 million, according to the Globe.
The World Series MVP batted a career-high .324 last season with 21 homers and 120 RBI.
Lowell, a 10-year veteran, has a career .280 average with 184 home runs and 778 RBI with the New York Yankees, Florida and Boston.
