MLB All Star Game Odds, Betting Trends: Everything You Need To Know
Patrick Everson
MLB All Star Game odds are front-and-center, which can mean only one thing: It's the slowest week on the American sports betting calendar
But at least we've got the Midsummer Classic to wager on. The AL is a modest favorite over the NL in odds to win the MLB All-Star Game. First pitch is at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Does AL Dominance Resume?
UPDATE 6 P.M. ET MONDAY: Since 1988, the American League has owned the National League in this annual ritual. Across 35 games, the AL is 27-7-1. On the plus side for the NL, the senior circuit won a low-scoring 2023 contest, 3-2.
But that was after a 9-0 AL run.
BetMGM opened the AL -115 in its MLB All Star Game odds market and is up slightly to -120, with the NL even money.
"I originally thought we'd take more AL money, based off of that trend. But it's been pretty balanced, with the NL actually taking a little bit more money up to this point," BetMGM trader Hal Egeland said. "It's too early to say who we'll be cheering for. It would only take a couple bets for us to become NL fans."
The total is at 7.5 (Under -115), with action running similar to the moneyline.
"It's still relatively low handle. But we're about as balanced as we can get," Egeland said.
All-Star MVP Odds
UPDATE 6:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: There are plenty of markets on the MLB All Star Game odds board, well beyond the moneyline/runline/total. Alternate totals, inning props, winning margin and a slew of other prop bets are up at BetMGM.
There's even a Yes/No on whether the game will be decided by a tiebreak Home Run Derby. No is a healthy -1100 favorite, and Yes is +600.
And of course, there are MLB All-Star MVP odds. That's the market creating the most early concern.
"The one thing I know for certain is that we'll be cheering against Paul Skenes to win MVP," Egeland said of the Pittsburgh Pirates rookie and NL starter. "He's our biggest liability by a decent margin, and I think that's going to grow quite a bit before he takes the mound."
That said, Skenes is a distant +3500 in the MLB All- Star Game MVP odds market. Sixteen other players are ahead of the wildly popular Skenes, led by +900 chalk Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The New York Yankees' Aaron Judge is the +1000 second choice, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies' Bryce Harper (+1200) and the Baltimore Orioles' Gunnar Henderson (+1300).
"MVP is a very popular market, especially when Skenes is throwing," Egeland said, before noting one other market of concern for BetMGM. "Like most games, we'd love to get a run in the first inning by either team."
