MLB Betting: 40 Games In
By Nick Parsons
As we approach the 40 game mark in the 2009 MLB Betting Season, one thing is definitely clear; things are a lot different than what most experts predicted.
No better place to start than the AL East with the surprising Toronto Blue Jays atop the leader board in this overhyped division. In fact as of writing, Toronto is tied for the best record in the Majors! They are 23-13 overall, 12-5 in Canada and 11-8 on the road. Toronto is followed closely by Boston (21-13) and the Yanks (16-17) in third.
In the American League Central it's Detroit on top with a record of 17-15 followed closely by the Royals (18-16) and the Twins (17-17).
Rounding out the AL out in the West the Rangers have a record of 19-14 overall, 10-6 at home and 9-8 away. Not far behind, the Angels, who got out to a slow start, are now poised for a run to the All-Star break with an overall record of 17-15.
Off to the Senior Circuit it's the Mets atop the NL East with an overall record of 18-15, 12-8 at home and 6-7 on the road. As of writing, it's interesting to note though that the Mets are a very poor 6-10 (-6.8 units) when playing against a team with a winning record! The Phillies are right behind New York with a 16-15 record overall, and interestingly are only 8-11 at home while a great 8-4 on the road.
The surprising Cincinnati Reds are 20-14 and hold the top spot in the Central; they're followed closely by Milwaukee (20-14), St. Louis (20-14) and the Cubbies (19-14). This could very well turn out to the division to watch down the stretch.
